My beautiful creation, first and glorious, all MINE! I must record this triumph for the eternity I'll have to exult in it.
It was not really my first creation. I made so many before. So many trials, so many errors. And even more successes! The mindless coalescents aren't mine. Ghost, Wisp, and Ictheli obey me well enough. They just don't proceed from me. My younger brethren. Maybe in a few thousand millenia they might have become like me. NO! I was first, and I won't let that happen. Skeletons, Zombies, Wights, and Ghouls. MUCH better. My creations. Pretty dumb though. Better than those other ones! Stronger, faster, and some thinking too.
Now this, my crowning glory. What do I call it? What do I call him?
A title, like "First?" "First creative?" No, stupid. Just a name then. Vampreny. His name is Vampreny, my beautiful creature and creator in one! You will create for me now, while I grow. No time to create. That's your job.
. . .
Vampreny is gone. I can't find him. In this entire blasted plane, he's nowhere. No sign. Not a touch of soulbleed is gone either. First he starts acting strangely. More unpredictable every day. He won't tell me anything. The work gets done though. Then this. The next one won't be like this!
I really had fun yesterday. I got to help and fight and assist my faction (Gerzson and Kemnast). I was pretty stoked to help again today but I logged in and saw they had it covered.

I'm sure there will be plenty of time to help coming up.
He's essentially a vegetable so it doesn't really matter whether
or even
becomes the second in command. They're still far more lucid, charismatic and influential as leaders with their own band of loyalists (or brainwashed minions) than Slith is capable of being right now. So the Gods said "none of you can sit on this here throne" but it doesn't mean that these guys aren't going to essentially be the guiding force behind the potato-Slith.
That's what this fighting is all about and why some people are taking it as srs bsns. Of course some people just want to PK like crazy, or win the prize that was offered to them, and some people just wanted to see what the this whole large scale war mechanic was about and couldn't without getting involved.
@Asmodron : Slith's the ruler because he inherited it, not because he is in any position to rule. Dude's a vegetable that, if I read remember what happened at god's moot, will never have a original idea again nor any motivation. Dude's a vegetable. This war is about who will be his puppetmaster.
Actually, the situation seems so unimportant (it's just a power grab) that it's way more reasonable for unaffiliated people to change sides at will. If it was actually important people would be way more stuck to the side they believed was 'right'.
Except it is important, otherwise why would anyone care if the Magisterion had won? Why would the Bloodsworn -force- Targ to associate themselves with Zsarachnor of all things?
It's important to some factions. It is not at all important to Mhaldor, IG - hence them not picking a faction. And Mhaldor, as far I'm hearing, is the only faction helping multiple sides.
1.) FACTION STATUS should display when a territory is getting attacked. We lost some things when our leaders didn't see the message for one reason or another, and currently the only way to check seems to be to enter a battlefield and look that way.
2.) Players shouldn't be able to enter enemy battlefields during battles they're not a part of. I like the dynamic of getting to hit people when they're weak, but when it can happen on the battlefield there's no chance to actually fight the main enemy, and makes things go back to pvp as usual. Changing it to work this way would let third party try to block battlefield entry, while still giving people a chance to get into the battlefield and win the battle.
3.) If my understanding is correct, and anyone can call a division when a spot needs to be defended, there needs to be a way for non-generals to see what the divisions are actually called. Can't summon them if you don't know the names. If I'm wrong, and non-generals can't summon period, there probably needs to be a way to set up a division that can be called on defense when the general isn't around.
4.) Less sure about this, but battlefields right now seem intended to make it harder to just run around and gank enemies or settle whole fights in large melees. However, things seem pretty inconsistent in this regard, with lunging, LoS, WALK TO, portals, and other things making it easy to close in on enemies, and short capture times making it so a single group wipe can lose you a spot, even on the battlefield. Making it harder to just treat it like normal pvp with a capture element after the fighting would make fortifications and the system itself shine much more.
5.) Though we don't know how victory actually works, or how points and territory will be weighted against each other, but right now it seems like there's such a heavy advantage to winning that there's no reason not to attack when no one's around. I've been on both sides to this, and it's always boring, and makes it hard to have real pitched battles using the system. I'd suggest that there be some penalty to attacking a spot if there aren't enough people to respond, likely either getting less points for capturing a spot in a one-sided battle, or none at all. Depending on how things are weighted, it could still make it so that one-sided battles could happen and be advantageous, especially given that there'd be no chance of feeding your opponent a point, but would also reward waiting until there are enough people to actually have a real battle in exchange for more risk.
Dunno how good of ideas any of this is, but that's my thoughts on the system's shortcomings so far. Otherwise I think it's all really cool.
I also feel like this is just a game of going around and capturing territory as fast as you can. The towers aren't hindering/damaging enough to warrant using saboteurs. Even attackign another company is barely worth it, when it's far more efficient to kill the players, forcing them to find their company again before they can start securing rooms again. I don't believe smaller capture groups will ever trump one group going around killing everyone and then just splitting up to capture everything.
If this thing is intended to be strategic in the future, it should be non-pk in the battlefield, and limiting the amount of players who can enter, as well as making towers more effective. Movement can be slowed down without PK, so the map could be made a bit smaller, with divisions placed on a main base of sorts on the map to switch out troops.
That said, I don't think this system is bad per se, the announce just gave me the idea/feeling that this was meant to be a tactical game, which it really just isn't right now, beyond temporary alliances, striking when your enemy is weak/distracted/absent,... and then just go around securing with three or more people. I don't think having a big group camp the entrance is terribly interesting either, since a big group defending a single position is, well, exactly like raiding.
Also, is there a way to tell if a given room has been secured by the enemy? I haven't been able to tell who controls what yet on the actual battlefield, and it makes it hard to do anything more then just capture things
@Asmodron sound logic. Lets give terrorists nuclear material. It'll take them years to perfect anything with it. No harm done right?
As was said, Slith doesn't have the ambition or the motivation to do much of anything right now, so the second in command will be running things, for the most part.
Are there people there just for the killing? Sure. Does that mean they don't have every IC reason to be there slaughtering you? Not in the slightest.
'Years' mean nothing to slith, or to the factions involved. If you think years of research would stop any of them from attempting to create armies of undead, you're simply a fool. It -is- a war that directly concerns us. The Underworld being its own plane really means -nothing- at all.
Don't try to preach nonsense when you've obviously not informed yourself.
Actually, Eleusis is back to one place. If anything, using those extra stones messed us up pretty badly, because we way overextended
And are you talking about on the battlefield, or in the underworld in general? Because I'm talking about determining who's secured the perimeter of an individual room on the battlefield itself, not the ambient effects of who controls a given area. So not the stuff that FACTION STATUS shows, to be clear.

Not that I agree with Asmodron, but using real-world comparisons (especially similar to the above) is always a terrible idea on many fronts.

yeah, those three extra beacons that only your faction got that gave you three extra points that no one else will have the opportunity to gain REALLY messed you up. Get that $#*$ out of here. Lol.

...4...
But they've also had those points removed...
Still gave them an advantage because they could have successfully defended the four extra territories and I assume get points for that...
But they didn't.
So I guess it comes down to no harm, no foul.
