    Bye for a while, nerds!
  • Had the most amazing day at COTA, throughly worth the 12 month wait to sample the first Grand Prix I've attended outside the UK. Weather was amazing, the view we had from turn one on the hill was amazing, Lewis getting the national anthem played was also amazing. I've totally fallen in love with Texas and hope to come back to Austin for another race sooner rather than later.

    TL;DR today was amazing.

  • I've been told this by the friends we are staying with.

As a native Texan, I feel like I should point out that most of Texas is absolutely nothing like Austin whatsoever.
As a native Texan, I feel like I should point out that literally nowhere else in Texas is anything like Austin whatsoever. Houston is the closest, and it's still got miles to go.
    Huh. Neat.

Too true.  But not many places the world over are like Austin.  There is a special vibe here that is sustaining even despite the rapid development of the last 2 decades.  It's legal for women to walk around topless here and they do, for pete's sake!

Dallas is what we all call "the butthole of texas" and Houston, while literally overflowing with culture, is just 1 massive concrete jungle.  The rest of texas might as well be some random wild west movie (the tumbleweeds are real and will fok your car up royally).  Austin is definitely where it's at.

San Antonio isn't that bad, but it heavily benefits from being 90 minutes away from Austin.
  • The little bit of San Antonio I saw along the river walk after basic was actually pretty nice!

Had to go to the time warner office to exchange a faulty box, ended up getting a new modem for 50% faster internet (from 20 mb/s to 30 mb/s, but I actually get 36 mb/s) and now we're paying $80 a month less than we were before. I don't even know how this happened, but the difference is very noticeable.

80$ less o_O how much does internet cost there. I am paying roughly 28 dollars  a month for 100/100 fibre :| or I would if I didn't work for the company that provided it

  • It was $260 for internet/phone/television bundle, but we dropped HBO and got Epics and the faster internet. So now it's $180 for all 3.

  • I pay $61 a month (including fees and taxes) for 100mb, with a 1 TB datacap. My last ISP wanted $60/month (before fees and taxes) for 20mb and no datacap.
  • AhmetAhmet Wherever I wanna be
$40 a month for 60mb/s and no data cap here in murica if you're with charter. Or free if you're a lucky bastard wif google fiber.
    Huh. Neat.

I think me and Marina pay like $65 or something for 160/25

    EDIT: and no data cap.

  • Just imagine the cost of international satellite service...
  • Here it's $60 for 200/20 (no data limit), if bundled with TV it's $103 (plus extra for premium channels or TiVo). 1Gb/50Mb is $100 ($143 with TV).
