    Nah, Captain Planet

Edit: Pic not working me now too...stupid interwebz
You know, that one thing at that one place, with that one person.

    Yea, that one!

Trolls are large, slender humanoids with great physical prowess, with most reaching a mature height
of seven feet or more. They often have strong or heavy facial features, coupled with a hulking or
burly stature that can contribute to an unfavourable stereotype.

So I'm not sure what this is saying - are they tall and thin, or tall and bulky? Most trolls I see tend to go the tall and bulky route, but I might be misreading this somehow!
  • AerekAerek East Tennessee, USA
I take it to mean trolls are naturally large and strong, but it's an imposing a physical stature that comes more from just being taller/larger than other races, rather than automatically being built like an Olympic weightlifter. Think of it like Warcraft's artistic difference between orcs and trolls. The trolls there are "skinny" while still being burly, as opposed to orcs who are just drawn wide as barns in all cases.

  • Is it possible to move a library designation or do you just move the shelf and purchase a new designator? (Thinking of moving my library...again...)
  • Got nondecay added to my staff, but now it seems I can't submit another request to add resetting. I got the admin approval so I did CUSTOMISATION COMPLETE 4 WITH FIGURINE and now when I try CUSTOMISATION NEW FOR STAFF or ADD RESETTING or anything with that staff, it says the customisation request was already completed and is just stored for reference and will be deleted. How do I add resetting? I thought I should do two separate requests so I could use figurines for both add-ons.

  • @Alaskar You'll need to create a new customisation request, but you can't while the previous one for non-decay is in the system. You can try to delete it yourself if possible (CUSTOMISATION will list the available commands) or wait a day or two for the current one to be cleared from the system.

  • Is there much point in a mount for a serpent? I'm looking at getting an artie pet, and the mithril spurs if needed, but if it's mostly pointless I'll just get something non mountable.

  • For combat, mounted serpents are one of the most irritating things to fight as a weapon user. Even moreso if they have dex boots... For hunting, not really, riding mostly useless. For a serpent anyway.

  • They're not useful for anyone for hunting, so yeah combat is what I was talking about. Thanks. :pleased:

  • ShirszaeShirszae Santo Domingo
You can't evade from a mount, though, but I suppose thats not much of a deterrent if you have vaulting+spurs.

And you won't understand the cause of your grief...

...But you'll always follow the voices beneath.

  • Right, it's an artie pet, so you could evade, recall it back to your inventory as soon as you have balance, drop it, and mount again right away.

  • I think the sequence is call back to inventory -> evade/queue drop;remount. I don't remember if you can recall while mounted though.

Useful for people without a form of dash/fly. There's all different kinds of 'usefulness' when it comes to hunting, in the case of mounts: mobility. Guess a non-atavian serpent could have a hunting usage for a mount, though.

  • I don't really want a flying pet anyway... not sure if I'll regret that in future.

If you're getting the package pet, it comes with flying and mountable anyway. Both may not be useful now, but there'll come a time when you want them...

I couldn't afford the package pet when I got mine many years ago, and had to pay separately for various upgrades as time has gone on. Much more expensive than buying the package as a one off.

Recent posts by Tecton suggest there's actually a damage reduction from the Defense ability in Riding against denizens, though I can't say I've ever really noticed a difference. Gallop is great for moving about quickly if you don't have a class ability (or 500 credits for an anklet of dashing) to get it already. Fly is good for a lot of places if you get overwhelmed by denizens.

Recalling an artefact pet is just a TELL so you can do it mounted, off balance, prone, etc.

He mentioned damage reduction at first, then corrected it and confirmed it is only dodging.

Have to have eq to send a tell to a denizen though, I think?
    Huh. Neat.

To most denizens, yes. Not pets, however.

Yes, but the pet I have in mind doesn't make sense as a flying pet, so that doesn't work. I'm just wondering how much I might regret that later on. Is there any benefit to a non flying pet? Trample damage, jousting skill? Or is that only for regular non artie mounts?

Yeah, went back and re-read what he posted earlier; he said (paraphrasing here) something along the lines of "only dodging against players". I originally understood that as meaning that you get dodge chance and damage reduction against denizens, but only dodge chance against other players; need to go and also re-read his edited initial post to get the full meaning there.

@Valkyn: Rangor has a flying bear, and my war horse can fly too. Though I think we both also own rings of flying, so you won't ever see those mounts do something silly like flap non-existent wings to fly. You can always just not use flying if you feel that strongly about it, but I'd say get it now so you don't have to pay extra if/when you change your mind.

  • Wait what? You have non winged bears and horses that fly? Doesn't it say specifically in the artefact pet scroll that you can't do that?

    Yes. Yes it does.

  • I think Rangor did some nonsense with an enchanted collar. I just didn't mention it and they seemed fine with it; if anybody asks Antonius just has REALLY strong thighs.
  • But flying pets can fly on their own, even if you're knocked out of the saddle. Just a little odd.

I wouldn't have picked @Antonius as the pole dancing sort, but you never know with some people.

I think the only benefit to a non-winged pet is that they -might- be better at jousting if they are mountable? Flying pets always seemed to do a little worse than the ones that couldn't fly.

Also, if you want to buy the artefact package pet that includes flying and you really don't want it, you can swap it for extra reactions instead. That's what I did for my crocodile!

Yeah, when I got my kitten, I went for the big package and ended up trading in flying, immortality, and sentience for a bunch of extra reactions.

The team is pretty awesome and open to suggestions like that.
