That will be enough discussion of alts and mains. I would love to see a few things stem from this event.
1. Shallam split into two separate things. One can be the idiots who just want to sit around and complain about crap, preach to each other about doctrine and who should be sleeping with who to get into x position of leadership. This "side" of Shallam can rebuild a Disney World type city where Shallam was and live happily ever after (yes, we should still have events that blow this part of Shallam up from time to time just because everyone hates that part of Shallam). The second part of Shallam can be the war torn, pissed off, militant side of ex-Shallam. This can be developed into a "cult" of Light or something more badass than, "We are Good people, lets hug instead of fight", a sect of followers of Light that are less focused on "Hey! You just comboed an innocent NPC, repent or you'll be branded an enemy of me" and more focused on, "YOU FUCKING BLEW UP MY GOD DAMN CITY AND KILLED MY FAMILY! WE ARE GOING TO GRIND YOU INTO THE GROUND TO PURIFY YOUR SINS!!!" This sect can reside outside of Disney World, in a camp more like Shastaan or something more nomadic in feel. Still have totems and leadership and all that stuff, just maybe more directly controlled by a Divine who will be less worried about making the non-combatant complainers sad and more focused on providing the members with what they actually want. Hell, both sides could reside within the same city wall, just make one part of the city for the "upper class", political, non-combat side of Shallam and the other can be the military district where street fights between warriors are allowed because it strengthens them, where soldiers spend their time in bars and forges instead of sitting on guard stacks at Fish Street. You could even make the rooms look completely different. Fortified bunkers and dirty streets in one district and clean houses and a palace and beautiful library and tea house in the other district.
2. Split Chaos off from Ashtan. Make Ashtan develop some kind of real focus other than, "Freedom", something more concrete so that it doesn't fit ANY kind of RP other than OMGEVIL or OMGLIGHT. Move the Occultists and followers of Babel outside of Ashtan, and have them be the main target of the militant ex-Shallam. Or just make Ashtan the city of Chaos instead of the city of Freedom, that will still filter out the non-Chaos Ashtani and make the city actually make sense.
This way the buttkissers in Shallam that want to continue to whine and complain and do non-combat stuff and wait for everything to be handed to them and planned by the Divine with little player interaction can still do so without dragging the more active, militant, player-event driven side of Shallam down into their stagnant cesspool of fail. This will solve the problem of the non-violent side of Shallam telling the militant side, "You cannot do this event/action/RP that you want to do because it goes against our belief and we believe that Lord SnuggleGod will take care of it in the long run" because they'll be met with, "We disagree, now get out of my way before I shove this sword of Light through your fat, pasty white gut for trying to prevent the Light from actually doing what it should have been doing all along."
Real, dark, and dramatic Chaos (in opposition to Erisian absurdity) has been on the rise for a while. The Erisian stuff had interesting components including the Spawn quest, the soldier of the Golden Apple Corps' hilarious sayings, and a few other things. But there's no doubt that they are progressively fading or getting axed in favor of a rise in dark Chaos. In fact, I'd go so far as to say Chaos and Ashtan are more closely entwined now than in any point in the past. Things are moving in a good direction, and there's no need to do the kind of holistic overhaul necessary with Good. It's a numbers game, and the proportions of (a) RPers/people who remain consistently IC (which is sometimes the best you can hope for) and (b) individuals aligned with a meaningful purpose/movement are both steadily moving higher.
Selene, Pandemonium, and Indrani were all knocked off, leaving probably half of Ashtani formerly in an Order currently Order-less. There is some real potential for re-alignment and consolidation under fewer, more purposeful banners. Hopefully players sense that and try to go along with what the Garden is nudging them towards.
The latest post is good because the reactionary old guard (the corrupt ruling class and their lumpenproletariat) will find it harder to oppress the working class. A spectre is haunting Sapience - the spectre of Light.
Thread is increasingly derailed. Can you take the discussion about terrible western puns elsewhere? I'm actually interested in hearing how other Shallamese are coping, and maybe their opinions on where we should go
