Refugees of Shallam, how are you coping?

  • I completely agree, and I am quite unbitter!

From the start, they were the ones raving about this while the rest of us were the ones sympathizing and creating threads/posts like this.

  • @Jonathin, I haven't seen you in-game in like an RL month. It's you. There's plenty going on, you just haven't been taking part in it. That said, we are starting to run out of ways to RP our wait for a new settlement. Give us a small castle in the new place and let us RP building instead of just making plans that will probably be ignored.
  • JonathinJonathin Retired in a hole.
You're not wrong. I haven't played in about a month due to moving. I've been back for a total of about 7 hours, but in that time I've had about 10 people tell me that things are starting to stagnate. Obviously, the words weren't as clear cut as that, but it could also be my group of friends. My own vision is pretty limited to what I can see from the news and forums. I pretty much see Hashan being curb-stomped and Tanris being gone so Ashtan doesn't raid- both of which are not that entertaining for everybody.

I am entirely certain that different groups of people are having more fun than others. It just so happens that my clique was stagnating and in my rush to get myself up to date, I applied it to the refugees as a whole. For that I do apologize, however my post is a good thing (disjointed as it is) to keep in mind while things do slow down so that no one group is isolated.
I am retired and log into the forums maybe once every 2 months. It was a good 20 years, live your best lives, friends.

More or less, also your avatar makes me miss fencing.

Oh, those are swords... I'd only glanced at it before, and just saw it as a flute, with a bit of some brass instrument in the corner.

    Sorry @Tesha...
  • Entirely different situations that can't even be compared.

That's fair, I was 12ish years old back then and don't remember all the details. Please fill them in.

  • Their city didn't get destroyed by a pseudo god and gigantic anti-dragons, and they hadn't been asking for rl years for Shallam to be destroyed, to be rebuilt, and to have a significant waiting period inbetween - among tons of other things I'm too lazy to try to remember or type out.

I want to know who this was so I can send them hateful letters.

    Was me. :)

Why haven't you converted to the Light yet Manifest, you might could actually win an election over here.

  • I don't get it.
  • AktillumAktillum Philippines
It was a ruthless jab at Manifest's election record in Ashtan, and how you could find better success in *shallam.

But there's still hope for Mani, right?

I hope he can offer tons of essence.

    Here's what I'm annoyed at.

When Infernals / Mhaldor were getting a new city:
a mysterious stalagmite appeared within the mountain island whereSartan, Lord of Evil was trapped. In their despair, followers of the imprisoned God began to impale themselves upon the rock formation and their sacrifices fed the spread of a plant-killing red fog. The miasma of evil that was the fog seemed to grow with each death and soon spread off the island. Despite the efforts of Oakstone, the Church, and other individuals to stave off the fog, it continued to spread and even take on a life of its own. In desperation to be rid of the fog, Gaia, the Earthmother, caused a tremendous quake to try and sink the island. The effect was the opposite, however; and not only did the fog spread faster, but the bonds of Sartan were finally broken and He escaped. Upon His release, He dubbed Himself Sartan, the Malevolent, and raised a stronghold known asBaelgrim Fortress

When *shallam is getting a new city:
"Roleplay by yourselves while you wait".

    sigh, whatever.
You just fastforwarded to the part of that event that something actually took place. There was a fair bit of downtime after the Infernals were dissolved and Sartan was imprisoned where his followers had to role play by themselves. They didn't have a patron either to at least give them some directive.

I remembered the Infernals pretty much bouncing back up and impaling themselves on stalagmites like 2-3 weeks after the guild tutor was beheaded in Ashtan, obviously it was years ago so my memory is blanking out gaps if it was longer.

  • It was only a couple of weeks between the Infernal guild's dissolution and the rise of the Maldaathi. Events news 56, 3/13/2002: Infernals dissolved. If we're really generous and assume it happened a full day before that, call it 3/12. Events new 60, 3/21/2002: Sartan resurrected, Maldaathi formed, Baelgrim Fortress raised.

Nine days. It's been 54 so far for us.
  • ....but who's counting.

  • Mhaldor wasn't created when the Maldaathi were. That was a 41 day wait. And if you want to be real technical, the Infernals were without a city for much longer than that.

No, but they did get their new org and the Baelgrim to base themselves out of. A little five-room keep, an official location, and maybe a name would be more than enough to get us started, and let us participate in the RP of building up a new city around it.
  • As frustrating as it may be, a slow start seems like the best way to make sure that the old mindset is in the past. If they switch over from Old Shallam to whatever is going to take it's place in all of 9 days, it wouldn't change anything.

    So what's stopping you??

RP some mud huts and whatnot. Do you need the admin to RP effectively?
  • No, but we do need them to choose from among the locations and names we suggested, and creating a few rooms there would be nice, as we'd otherwise have to go deep into the wilderness map to do it. We can RP mud huts and shirts-off manly cutting of wood and sawing of boards and stuff all we want, but we don't know where it's going to be. It doesn't do us any good to start RPing mud huts and such on the western shore of Ulangi under the name of Bob's City when the eventual location is going to be in the Thraasi Hills with the name of Suzy's Junction. Like I said, choose a location, give us a name, and we'll take it from there while the rooms are written and behind-the-scenes magic is worked.

Clearly our new city is going to be 10x more badass than Mhaldor. With doors for EVERY SINGLE ROOM.

Yah suckers, how bout a taste of your own medicine.
There needs to be a "It's on, noob." option for posts.

How manly are we talking about?
(D.M.A.): Cooper says, "Kyrra is either the most innocent person in the world, or the girl who uses the most innuendo seemingly unintentionally but really on purpose."
