So I embraced my class (Monk) what would be a good 2nd major trait for me? and what minor traits should I have?
What are your goals? What is your desired playstyle?

Do you want to be able to bash faster and get higher levels, or do you want to focus on combat?

I want to do a little of both?
I have Cerebral Palsy, so it'll take me a bit to learn things so please try to be patient with me.

Well if you're not super focused on either direction, then it's likely best to go the +1 Con and Balance traits as your first two majors.

The reason for this is that you gain more from con than you will strength for hunting, and balance applies to both pvp and pve, as you will likely be focusing on Tekura-based combat for now.

As far as minors, I never leveled while the minors were applicable, so I can't be entirely sure.
  • Minors for Monk are pretty up in the air, Blissful Ignorance is good for anybody wanting to do PVP.
  • thanks guys

  • Knife Thrower is also useful for combat, since it lets Delos handaxes be slightly faster than arm balance for handaxe/punch/punch combos.

Someone mentioned having the limb damage formula worked out for rapiers, is that something they'd be prepared to share?

How long does puppet/vodun slow last? Will it be in effect until cured?
Yes, but to stick it you have to strip Speed first.
Unless things have changed in which i've never seen the change go through, Vodun/puppet slow falls off after about 5 irl minutes.

Long enough to fill you with every affliction possible yank you halfway around the world then behead you. but still it -should- fall off eventually.

  • If you a) survive more than five minutes of fighting while b) not curing aeon, your opponent is likely afk

Can always get out a deliver/empress/ect ect into your city and wait out the 5 minutes before the concussion hits.  Always possible they won't have enough fashions left to bleed you out through clotting. or even possible they'll leave the room to do it. and not even notice you've left attempting to lock you and wasting fashions. And even possible they don't have voyria to imbibe, Anything could happen in combat!

Also I mostly just learned this from practicing slowlocks on citymates on my jester and then not killing them.

  • Priests: are they taking nimble or quick-witted?
[2:41:24 AM] Kenway: I bet you smell like evergreen trees and you could wrestle boreal mammals but they'd rather just cuddle you
  • Nimble.

  • No, quick-witted.
  • Can take either, really.

Most people take quick-witted, but nimble is viable for Priest if the right person plays it.

Can you briefly define what the right person would have to do?  I've never touched priest before ever, so i don't even know what skills take bal and eq.

  • The obvious answer is quick-witted. Almost all relevant skills for PvP as a Priest use equiibrium.

Sap, Angel Aura, Hands, Force, Rites, Peace, Chasten, Dazzle, Spiritwrack, Bedevil, Strip, Absolve.

Smite is the only "important" ability in PvP, and if you use that often enough for Nimble to matter more than Quick-witted you're already PvPing as a Priest ineffectively. The only exception I could see is if you have a diadem to offset not having quick-witted and then go Nimble with an artefact mace.

    No arties? Quick-witted.

Quick-witted is an obvious choice if you plan to play a standard Priest offense, since every important ability they have is based on EQ. All of their offensive combos are centered around EQ. There's virtually no need for faster balance.

That's not the only way Priest can be played though.

It's perfectly viable to play a damage priest with smite. This used to be a pretty decent playstyle and it hasn't gotten nerfed.

    Does mindthrow have a warning?

The only real warning is if you have telesense (in vision) up and the monk just happens to decide to not cloak themself before mindlocking, which is unfortunately rare.

Barring that, you do get a message as you're thrown, which looks like: You are jolted violently southwards by powers unseen.

You can use that line (obviously using (\w+) or something for the direction, not a coding pro here) and make a very very very loud alert for it, if you like, whether using highlights, echos/cechos, svo box warnings, and whatever else you think might be handy!

ETA: You mostly just need to be able to have good reaction times, really. You'll get that from practice! If you notice it starting to happen, pause your system and sit down for a moment (can't be thrown if you're hindered in some way, including prone), assuming you're not out in the open (go to Gatehouse or one of the shops or something). From there, you can stand and either a) Have someone(s) block, or b) Throw up an icewall in the (hopefully single) exit.
And I love too                                                                          Be still, my indelible friend
That love soon might end                                                         You are unbreaking
And be known in its aching                                                      Though quaking
Shown in this shaking                                                             Though crazy
Lately of my wasteland, baby                                                 That's just wasteland, baby

It's the cloaked mind locking that got me. I didn't even know that was a thing. Jesus.
  • So I've had rixil for like a half hour now. Tried lots of focusing, compose, concentrate, eat herb, smoke pipe, apply salve, touch tree... how the hell do I get rid of it?

    image
  • What the hell is rixil?
  • Rixil is meant to extend the next focus balance, so it probably doesn't work unless you focus an actual affliction. Will see about getting that looked into, but having someone afflict you with a focusable aff and then focusing it should handle it.
  • Fendo beat you to the punch, focused an affliction and got it cured. Thanks!

My classlead to fix this (#30) got approved, btw.

Just curious if anyone else fights perfectly fine in the arena but once they step into a duel they suddenly forget what they're doing and where all their keys are and make stupid mistakes. Is this just me? This can't be just me.

  • Fighting in the arena is nothing like a duel.

Penwize has cowardly forfeited the challenge to mortal combat issued by Atalkez.
  • The difference is that an arena spar comes with one opponent, whereas a duel comes with twelve.
