From what I remember when I tested writhing to build my own system years ago, WRITHE will always do impale first. If you're already writhing from something else when you get impaled you can WRITHE again to writhe out of both at the same time.

Does anything increase the damage done from enflame/potency of bleed attacks? Artefacts, stats, etc.
If I recall correctly, collars/int increases curses bleed and vodun crush. My assumption would be the same for vodun bleed/inflame. This is just a guess, however.

Doesn't increase the amount they bleed for, only the damage right?
I emailed artefacts about this a few months back and was told that a collar increases curses bleed damage to denizens but not adventurers. They also said that curses inflame damage is not increased by a collar.
Oddly enough, they stated that a collar doesn't increase thurisaz damage and subsequent testing shows that it does...
Actually, now that I have ranted about it... I'm legitimately curious about what people who are better at Achaea combat theory think of Fitness. Is it even useful in combat anymore, aside from perhaps curing things a little bit more quickly if you've run out of melee to heal?
My impression is that, in melee, either they're not applying enough pressure to require it, or they're applying so much that using it could be a death sentence... but this impression mostly comes from Alleviate, which, although it's less focused than Fitness, is still faster by a couple fractions of a second.
Unless alleviate can be used with broken arms/paralysis/etc or fitness was nerfed to not be able to be used with those conditions (can't log in often around xmas) I'd say it is still useful for escaping locks and requiring one more aff
Alleviate is decidedly less powerful than fitness against affliction classes which rely on afflicting rather specific sets of afflictions (in contrast to classes like occultists, for whom the mere amount is quite a relevant factor).
The important points here are: - Alleviate is stopped by paralysis, which is needed for most locks and similar anyways, to stop tree/running. It thus doesn't require an additional affliction to be stuck. Fitness is stopped by weariness, which makes that a further required affliction to be stuck for a lock, furthermore an affliction which is focusable, which makes it harder. - Alleviate is random and can thus be countered by buffer affs (such as the random ones you get from entities). Fitness will cure asthma for sure if you have balance and aren't weary and asthma is crucial to just about any kind of lock. - The time it throws you of balance makes a slight difference, but not a huge one, since being off balance/eq doesn't stop you from eating/smoking/applying. As soon as fitness cures asthma, you can instantly cure every single smoke aff (unless your pipes are empty), then apply to your heart's desire, which should be a guaranteed cure for anorexia unless you're off restoration balance, then eat etc. Asthma is one of the most powerful afflictions, simply because there's no smoke balance, which means that you can't delay smoking as easily as eating or applying without it.
Combined, this means that locking a person who has fitness requires a distinctively different approach to locking a person without it. Alleviate may be a better momentum-counter, but fitness was never supposed to be that. It's a way to make locks harder to achieve by requiring a further stuck affliction. If you use fitness at the right time, it won't be a death sentence, as no class can re-build the momentum needed to get a kill from scratch during the balance loss of fitness. If the fitness allowed you to truly get out of a lock setup, it's basically a complete reset. Sure, it's not always like this, and sometimes you'll still die just after using asthma. Maybe because you used it too late and you already have a ginseng stack on you and are relapsing/darkshading out. Maybe because it didn't allow you to cure impatience since you have a goldenseal stack on you. Maybe because you used it too early, when your opponent hadn't even started his main affliction burst. But the mere existence of asthma requires your opponent to take it into account and doesn't allow him to assume that a stuck asthma and paralysis/hinder means a lock.
Fitness is still one of the most powerful active curing abilities.

If Alleviate isn't stopped by paralysis or something and is quicker than fitness (and has no cool down) then keep using alleviate I suppose.
Otherwise fitness is great for curing asthma when you don't have weariness and are otherwise locked or off herb balance in a critical situation. Two I can think of are a hard lock with paralysis or having asthma in aeon (assuming no outrifted kelp or anorexia as well).
Alleviate being faster by fractions of a second doesn't make it more useful for the reasons Iocun mentioned. Sure, it's decent enough if you notice you're being ginseng or goldenseal stacked, but Fitness is still largely useful against locks even if for the sheer fact it means than the person trying to lock you has to further stick Impatience, and possibly another several goldenseal afflictions if you choose to cure that first + alleviate (So in a way, it's still a preventative measure - just in a less infuriatingly obnoxious way). Changing it from being used as a consistent defence against Asthma - which was a sort of abuse of its power - is paralleled by the recent changes to limb damage.
Even more situations, really. Riftlock? Fitness. Kelp stack and approaching a lock? Fitness. No outrifted kelp in retard and can't run for some reason? Fitness. Off restoration balance, impatience, anorexia, asthma? Fitness, assuming you can't tree. Your shield is up and you have a bunch of afflictions including asthma? Fitness. Overweight? Fitness.
Alleviate requires at least one usable arm, so it's stopped by paralysis, both arms being damaged, and anything that requires WRITHE to cure, and it cures a random affliction. It's basically a second tree tattoo, but with a 2.5 balance cost. Given that if you can alleviate you can usually also run away, it's outshined by movement. ETA: It is handy for cheaper denizen curing against things that use Loki (mana is cheaper than herbs), and for healing up more quickly once you've gotten safely away, of course. Also blackout.
I appreciate the thoughts regarding Fitness! It sounds like it's still useful, just my system is presently too limited to make use of it.
