Despite a fairly morose summer, the last few days have been surprisingly pleasant.
Last night I called my family to try and get a little money so I could buy lunch at my first day back to work (substitute teacher), and spent over an hour catching up with my favorite people in the family: My mother, aunt, and aunt's daughter (cousin), whom is a year younger than me. The majority of it was spent with the cousin, whom I grew up close to similar to a sister (having only had two older brothers who weren't that interested in a kid 10-14 years younger than them, cousin was one of the best blessings of my life for certain). I've been away from my family for about five years now, which is really rough since I miss them often, so I often avoided phone calls to not feel sad. Instead, this one just made me terribly happy and reminded me that one day I'll get to go home and be around them again. Not to mention they gave me about five times the money I asked for, so now I can buy a few much-needed things to get my year started off right (plus eating lunch at work).
Then today I worked with my favorite group of kids, though my 8th graders of course have graduated and I had a new group of 6th graders. I was a little apprehensive about it as you can never tell what kind of kids you're going to get, but my 6th graders were not only extremely pleasant, they were very chatty and exceptionally intelligent. Four of the girls sat at the back table with me and while I helped them with their math, we discussed politics, state-wide issues, what's going on in world news, etc. They were extremely adorable, and I had a very good time - and of course, the rest of my kids were lovely, if a bit chatty (but hey, Friday before a three-day weekend is usually crazyville, so all things considered, not too bad). Not to mention a three day weekend ahead!
On top of all of that, either Sunday or Monday, me, the boyfriend, and some of his family are going out to a local fishing spot that's quite gorgeous and quiet to fish, chat with family, and have a decent-sized cook out for Labor Day. I have not fished since I last fished with my own dad, ten years or more ago, so I'm fairly excited and interested to see how things go. Florida this time of year is terrible, but I'm hoping the weather plus the shade from the trees will keep things bearable.
Hoping September brings lots of good things, both in and out of Achaea. Looking good so far.
And I love too Be still, my indelible friend That love soon might end You are unbreaking And be known in its aching Though quaking Shown in this shaking Though crazy Lately of my wasteland, baby That's just wasteland, baby
A bit of snow on the ground doesn't count as a blizzard. If it's a real blizzard, you ain't going anywhere anyway.
"Gilgamesh, where are you hurrying to? You will never find that [everlasting] life for which you are looking. When the gods created man they allotted to him death, but life they retained in their own keeping. As for you, Gilgamesh, fill your belly with good things; day and night, night and day, dance and be merry, feast and rejoice. Let your clothes be fresh, bathe yourself in water, cherish the little child that holds your hand, and make your wife happy in your embrace; for this too is the lot of man."
We've not taken even a day trip since last October, so to commemorate Labor Day @Kaie and I took a mini-vacation. We went to nearby Frankenmuth, MI where we ate large quantities of pizza and sorbet, shopped, and went to Bronner's Christmas Wonderland (the World's Largest Christmas Store -- over 7 acres of decorations, collectibles, trees, lights, creches, etc.) to start planning this year's Christmas decor (1970's retro!).
Don't judge us: There are only 11 more Fridays until Thanksgiving!
You went to Frankenmuth and didn't get fried chicken? Bitch.
Yeah, I'm from the Canadian prairies. I still say that it doesn't count if you can drive in it, no matter how great your snow tires.

TohranEverywhere you don't want to be. I'm the anti-Visa!
I will touch the multitude of things that pass through my station. I will caress them, and wonder who they're going to. I'll question each piece as it passes by, "Where are you going, little piece? Small box, what do you hide from my curious eyes?" I'll let my fingers brush softly across the cardboard, savoring the feeling as the pads of them make that soft, sweet tapping sound when I reach the corners. Once I feel comfortable, I will slowly insert each and every item into that nice, tight brown box, padding them with the proper wrap, and then sealing them away for the next person to touch their beauty.
*in a soft voice* I will touch your things.
this is just about the creepiest thing I've ever read.
Good sir, you obviously never got a personal message from Finchy back in the day. I have read/done/seen a lot of messed up stuff, but that cannibalism thing he had, that was a doozy.
Finally going to see some of my childhood favorite jazz musicians play today. I've been listening to their records for years now and never thought I'd see them perform live. As if it didn't get better, it's completely free. ^__^
Well, you can't just not say who they are. Citizens demand jazz.
Phil Woods and Pharoah Sanders. That concert by Pharoah... just WOAH. These guys are 82 and 73 respectively and still can play.
Phil's set included 'Bohemia After Dark', 'Willow Weep for Me', 'Dearly Beloved', 'An Affair to Remember', and 'So in Love'.
Pharoah's set included 'The Creator Has a Master Plan', 'Naima', 'Giant Steps', and two other tunes I wasn't as familiar with but included a lot of audience call and response while he danced/strutted across the stage.
Received a call from the ex. Usually people hate talking to their exes, but I love talking to mine. Here's why…
Ex: "Do you remember how I decided that since afford I can't furnish the apartment and what I wanted to do, you said it was a bad idea?" Me: "Yes. Inflatable furniture is only good for pre-teens and the occasional party furniture." Ex: "Well, I did it anyway. You know that." Me: "I do, I have seen the drunken party photos, I'm surprised they have held up." Ex: "They did good. But then I got a cat." Ex: "I no longer have furniture."
I love that moment that you realize you made the right choice by leaving someone behind.

Is it on how to pick up women?
To be fair, I probably should do that too. It may cause endless amusement on my part, but also potentially a frivolous lawsuit when my advice never works. This is America after all.

he's traveling around with a guy he calls "pervy sage" a wise old man he has to continuously save from females beating his face in because he peeked in their hot tubs for 'research' so he can write his latest novel.
Aurora says, "Tharvis, why are you always breaking things?!" Artemis says, "You are so high maintenance, Tharvis, gosh." Tecton says, "It's still your fault, Tharvis."
Stopped in @Jinsun's city and had lunch with him and his lovely lady friend. He's really very nice but the food was nicer. I'm sick of Oklahoma fair food puke. If I see one more fried food item my heart will explode.

I had a new job at 1:45 pm.
Starter. Side of the road. Middle of the night. Blizzard. Almost dead flashlight.
