Not only discovered HEMA, but found out that they have a Sword Academy teaching swordfighting in my city. I know what I want for my birthday in October now.
And, since I refuse to make it a rant, I have a midterm exam tonight. Will be so happy to just be finished with it.
"Gilgamesh, where are you hurrying to? You will never find that [everlasting] life for which you are looking. When the gods created man they allotted to him death, but life they retained in their own keeping. As for you, Gilgamesh, fill your belly with good things; day and night, night and day, dance and be merry, feast and rejoice. Let your clothes be fresh, bathe yourself in water, cherish the little child that holds your hand, and make your wife happy in your embrace; for this too is the lot of man."
Had to host a program tonight. Originally the assistant manager was going to do it but he left and gave me all of his work (meh). I was a little nervous because I was to introduce a new film, show the film, and then lead a discussion.
Afterwards people kept coming up and thanking me. One lady asked me how I knew so much and that it was amazing. Also a college boy asked me for my number. hehehe, lad... I could almost be your mum. P.s. boys are gross. I was really surprised at how well it went and how much people enjoyed the whole thing.
I'm very particular about my hair. I hate going to a barber and them cutting it a certain way because LOLMARINE you must want everything shaved and short. This time, I got a hair cut and they pretty much nailed what I was looking for.
Allergies and some sort of virus decided to combine forces and kick my ass the past week or so. Finally got well, and my allergy medicine is actually working instead of making me feel wonky. I actually feel like a normal human being again.
Today was my first day of work in a while! Work has been so slow.
It was with my favourite kids, and today we got to discuss a "play" (basically exerts from the book) on The Giver. I was excited as intelligent discussion isn't something I often get to do with kids (I usually just watch them work and twiddle my thumbs), so this was a great change of pace. I am quite surprised how sensitive to reality a lot of these kids already are - it seems even at 11-13, some of them have been through some things that help shape their understanding of what a utopian society is and if it would/would not work, not to mention discussing some of the futuristic possibilities touched upon (such as drugs that make you forget tragic events).
I also decided to take my new Mhaldorian citizenship into account and teach the kids a bit about Suffering(tm) and how it plays a role in shaping their lives and expanding their appreciation of things, and how it makes you a stronger person in general, even if things hurt. Soon I will introduce them to @Sartan's will and they will become His servants in the pursuit of greatness.
Really loving my day, though. I wish I could just be intelligent and discuss with people all day. I want that job. It makes my creativeness happy.
And I love too Be still, my indelible friend That love soon might end You are unbreaking And be known in its aching Though quaking Shown in this shaking Though crazy Lately of my wasteland, baby That's just wasteland, baby
A month in kindergarten and my sons handwriting is (mostly) legible and understandable. Turns out he's not gonna have issues like I thought, I'm just a bad teacher, which I can very readily accept!
Even if it's only for the length of my course, I absolutely love the fact that I have access (under London South Bank University) to full journals, books and research papers. I can now flip through articles to my heart's content. Woo! I really hated clicking on a link for a journal article, only to be shown the abstract and the price it'll cost me if I wanted the full text.
Singapore institutions that teach radiography really need to work on getting themselves a partnership with Sciencedirect or something so students don't have to suffer when they had to do their final year projects.
"Mummy, I'm hungry, but there's no one to eat! :C"

Seconded, completely. The University where I teach considers us under employment up to three years after our last course (allowing for downtimes due to class spacing), and this includes database access/full text privileges and the like. So nice

I miss being associated with a university for this very reason. I NEED to read scientific papers, it's part of what makes my little heart keep thumping. Boo hissssssss
So, I was speaking to an old friend of mine whom I dragged into playing Aetolia with me back in the days. He's taking a computing class and for his Internet and Society lecture, he was re-introduced to the concept of a MUD.
As part of his task for his game development project and because he was inspired to create a simple MUD for his project by the experience he received of IRE ones, I suggested that he play Achaea, IRE's flagship MUD, with me to get an idea of what he should consider when trying to design one, from engine up.
Would be exciting if he decides to play Achaea though!

So I've recently been taking a more committed/longterm role in the family business, and in the past we've always struggled with contract disputes and people attempting to effect their will on us because we're a smaller subcontractor and they can simply leverage the cost/benefit paradigm of defending ourselves in court vs. acquiescing to their bullshit.
Let's just say my presence has put a stop to that. Funny how knowing the regulations and procedures in your jurisdiction and being able to call up the opposing company's counsel and talk the talk with them limits their eagerness to throw frivolous legal threats. :^)
I finally got my kitchen cleaned up and re-organised today. Jars that had been sitting around waiting for me to use them finally got filled up and my cupboard doesn't look like a disaster anymore. Never thought I'd be so happy to do some cleaning!
Bonus rave: The spice jars that I bought look like little round potion bottles, reminiscent of Diablo, etc. My husband gave me a funny look when I started giggling at them earlier while filling them.

Damn it, I'll have to hurry to catch up. I'm 29 and still don't have legible handwriting.
Kadin and I have taken to watching the new tv show Gotham. Two episodes thus far (third one airs on Monday), and it's awesome. Can't wait for the next one! You can watch it on Hulu for free if any of you want to get into it, and are Batman universe fans. It contains a lot of references to different Batman comics, tv shows, and movies. The people who made the show definitely did their homework to blend these references together.
