Through changes to my diet alone, I am down 30kg (about 60 pounds) and today I got the all clear to start exerting myself again without risking heart issues.
I still have to take things easy but I am really proud of the progress I am making. My cooking is a lot better and despite the struggle of being broke right now, I am sticking to the things that I am supposed to be eating only. Slowly but surely, two years of damage is coming undone. I feel like celebrating.
It's Erev Purim and I just went to a megilla reading at the local Orthodox synagogue followed by a Purim party. I love Purim. You're actually commanded to celebrate and get drunk. The people at this synagogue are great, I got invited to a Purim sudah tomorrow morning with waffles, I just ate the most amazing cake pops ever, I had two small glasses of wine and 3 larger ones of really tasty rum punch, and I temporarily love life.

That is pretty amazing, @Kyrra. Awesome job, keep it up.
Rave: I made myself go to the gym today even though I was still really sore. Trainer told me I was improving! Pretty amazing to realise that there -are- good changes happening, even if they're not outwardly visible yet or drastic like suddenly being able to run a marathon. I still look exactly the same, but i can do more now without feeling like I want to keel over.
Kind of a rant: everything is wobbly and sore rarrr. I guess I'm getting used to it though.
Rave: Been really busy this week going for interviews (somehow people call me!) and already have a job offer and potentially two pending ones Came home after a 5 hour interview yesterday and fell right asleep. So tired, but I feel productive.

I've been going to the gym Feb 2013 - continuing to now and gained ~10kg, from 59 (I calculated the BMI for my height, yeah was underweight) to 68kg and still working on it (and the BMI is happy now!). Doing the 12 week challenge at Goodlife now
Rave: My apartment complex is FINALLY offering an unlimited monthly internet plan ($65 a month, not too terrible)
Rant: I have almost 250gb of downloading ahead of me to get my entire steam library back on my computer at long last... >_>
what's your download speed?
Aurora says, "Tharvis, why are you always breaking things?!" Artemis says, "You are so high maintenance, Tharvis, gosh." Tecton says, "It's still your fault, Tharvis."
Meeting someone for dinner and she was running about 10 minutes late, there were a group of lads at the bar joking about me sitting there alone, they soon STFU when she walked in...

pretty sure it is 5mbps or thereabouts - considering up until now I have been stuck paying $30 a month for 10gb or $45 a month for 20gb, I'm not complaining over $65 for unlimited. I seem to be pulling down around 1-2gb an hour.

Rave1: The meal I got invited to was a ton of fun and was basically a lunch party with pancakes rather than a synagogue function, and I exchanged contact info with a couple people who offered to find internships for me (I didn't ask them, they offered when they heard that I was in college and what my field was). One of the people actually used to work for, and still has contacts with, an agency that places interns with Congress and NGOs. Apparently this congregation holds a great number of of lawyers, law clerks, think-tank type people, and professors.
Rave2: My midterm that was tomorrow is now next week. I had a whole lot of fun on spring break, but that also meant I barely studied, so this feels like a gift from heaven.

Sleep is for the week. Just eat cohosh and power through it!
He found a room at the Avenir, an inexpensive hotel on the rue
Gay-Lussac. Registering under a false name, promptly forgotten, he
climbed the stairs to his room, removed his clothes, and fell into the
bed. "Rest is a weapon," he said to himself, staring at the ceiling, at
the flickering lights of the Paris streets as they traveled across the
plaster. Whether rest came in a mountain cave or a rice paddy in the
Mekong Delta, it did not matter; it was a weapon frequently more
powerful than firepower. That was the lesson drummed into his head by
d'Anjou, the man who had given his life in a Beijing forest so that
Jason Bourne might live. Rest is a weapon, he considered, touching the
bandage around his neck yet not really feeling it, its constricting
presence fading as sleep came.
I went to the DMV today... for the first time I used the "make an appointment online" feature they implemented. Instead of spending 4 hours there, I spent about 15-20 minutes. IT WAS AWESOME! There are few things in the world that I hate worse than the DMV ,but this made it totally fine! 10/10 would make an appointment again
My boss just put in her notice due to pregnancy, and I just put in an application for her position. If I can get it, it'll triple my pay and let me move out of this damn house. The head office knows me by name, and I work in every form of service we provide, so I can only hope. This job will allow me to move out and get back into school so I can at least get a BA. Fingers crossed [-O<
Two of my colleagues have fallen very ill this semester (this isn't the rave part - I'm not a monster!), but the good news that comes from these very unfortunate circumstances is that I've been asked to pick up their course loads.
Feeling good that I was the one tapped for the added load - and a minor *squee* that I get to actually teach Grammar - as in an entire course about it and nothing else. Yes, I am a geek for this. No, I do not care!
Third day at my new job. Yesterday they explained the joys of leave accrual... WAIT WHAT? You mean after a year you'll pay for me to be out of the office for 15 days? *Faints* I was so happy I actually skipped down the hall. I plan on spending all of that time visiting a very lovely person
Recently there was a tragic accident where a fuel transporter collided with a truck containing explosive material, the accident didn't immediately cause an explosion. During this latent period four police officers went in close to divert traffic, shoo curious people, etc (this was on a highway in SA), and unfortunately they were caught up in the massive explosion that did happen. Needless to say, the scene consisted of about 50 various body pieces of said policemen.
I received the case and had to 'reconstruct bodies' (akin to building a puzzle) for the Victim Identification Unit; meaning, I had to analyse ~50 DNA profiles and pair each limb, body part, unnameable thing to the policemen's relatives DNA profiles. It was a momentous task and required utmost urgency, because in South Africa the African culture demands that a body be buried in a certain time-frame, lest ancestors something-somethig-angry. I had freaking Ministers breathing down my neck, Generals looking over my shoulder, but I am glad to say today I received a call to congratulate me on the exceptional work I did (on my portion of the case).
I fucking love my job. Love the stress, love the challenge, love the dynamism
Took a half day off to clear out three contracts (accrued craploads time off in lieu from all my overtime). 45mins before leaving for office work tonight, team leader messages me a set of call centre wide emails that circulated today:
Email 1: Anyone got Valium?
Email 2-76: « various numbers of people saying they have some »
Email 77: Got some. Will pay back. Thx.
Team leader told me to just stay home or bring some Valium...TIME TO LOOK FOR NEW JOB. Now I can get to my Achaea painting queue
"Faded away like the stars in the morning, Losing their light in the glorious sun, Thus would we pass from this earth and its toiling, Only remembered for what we have done."
Been listening to this awesome band called Ayron Jones and The Way all day with @Vicious. Really cool bluesy rock band with some grunge influence out of Seattle. They've been compared to Hendrix a bit in their sound. Really digging this band right now.
Today was a good day. I said that as I walked into my flat. I can't remember the last time I said that.
First off, I went to see the tree of life, a random tree that grows in the middle of bahrain, a vast empty desert. But there is one tree, quite large, just sitting there perfectly fine. No idea how it gets water, but it's there and very cool.
Today was also the celebration for Holi, a Hindu holiday of sorts. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holi ) now it's not really Holi, just the day they celebrate it here since it's friday. However as I was minding my own biz, I got blatted in the face with a bunch of brightly colored powder, then more, and more, then all these guys came up to me and told me I was too white, so they "helped" me out by smothering me with every color of the rainbow. There was plenty of music and dancing, as well as amazing indian food. What fascinates me about this is how close everyone was, how touchy everyone was, and how nice everyone was. Being born and raised american means that our holidays are much more introverted and family oriented, so it was quite different. I am also amazed at how many people, arab, muslim, hindu or otherwise all come together at these festivities. Now I don't mean to be racist or stereotypical but hell, I've been taught to just think of people like that as the enemy (likely military training/media). I was welcomed as a brother and had some of the most fun I've had in my life. Culture shock is one of the best things out here.
Then I went off to play some ultimate frisbee, which was fun as I was one of the only people there painted a million different colors. Once again, I found that playing with a multicultured group was something amazing. Indian, Filipino, Arab, Bangladeshi, British and American. It's just so damn easy to get along, knowing that you're so vastly different. My theory is that because you understand the massive barriers in culture, you are much less judging and accepting.
Now I don't hate on America, but I assume a few things. Perhaps Americans dealing with Americans lends itself a certain social expectation, which is not true in multicultural events. I think that allows for things to come out much easier, and people to just be themselves right off the bat, rather than having to slowly integrate yourself based on a social structure. Maybe I am just thinking too much! maybe someone else has theories on this.
