I'd like to say that serpent is definitely good but has perhaps the highest learning curve of any class in achaea. I will also add that to be efficient, it probably requires the most scripts. This is debatable as some advanced combatants have told me that they used to simply watch the cures and hotkey what to use next...which frankly in itself needs a lot of practice for that keeneye.
The only thing i resent about serpent combat is the amount of passive curing and curing abilities. The count has become pretty high
Serpent doesn't require scripts at all, really, and definitely doesn't have anywhere close to the highest learning curve of any class.
While I know you like to play devil's advocate to anything said, perhaps you could provide your point of view of what you believe to be the highest learning curve class and what scripts and practice they would require compared to the fast output and diversity of affliction locking?

Probably jester I think. You're given a bunch of stuff and expected to coordinate it. Puppet, bomb, and juggling management all relies on at least some knowledge of coding to make it all work. Everything is very time sensitive and it's not going to work unless a script of some kind is making things happen when they need to happen. As a serpent, I can make maybe 5 macros to kelp stack, snap and lock. There's a lot more moving parts to a jester.
I've seen a lot of jesters who fashion and run until they have enough fashions to set up a death tarot/jitb kill. That's fine. But there are ways to lock someone as a jester without ever getting a single fashion. And that is a steep learning curve.

I thought the consensus was jester needed a rework.
Yeah, I don't know; Jester is a fair candidate, but a bad Jester still has a few simple tricks that can kill everyone. By contrast, a bad Serpent will never kill anyone. Even something as simple as "snap and lock" requires a comparatively complex understanding and flexible command of the class to execute. Darkshade loop is easy, I suppose, but only against someone who is equally clueless on defense as the Serpent is on offense.
I'd say Serpent is one of the highest learning curves. Saying otherwise seems like a "git gud" understatement from decades-old veterans.
-- Grounded in but one perspective, what we perceive is an exaggeration of the truth.
It was until the Lightwall/Darkshade addition. Since then it's been pretty fantastic. Any way you cure, they can punish you; and quickly.
I was about to type this out that serpents can counter up healing prios very well. They also are incredibly artie dependent for tankiness, offensively fine with dex+lvl1 dirk but you can force them to run constantly and reset frequently.
Got some spars in with @Ahmet which he said that "FUCKING MONK SHENANIGANS" alongside "i hate your level 3 mana regen so much."
Then sparred it up with @Xaden some after trying some stupid bullshit stuff. I won like 60% of the time. (I lost the other part of the time because I fucked up my limb count and couldn't set it proper. :< )
It was really fun and informative though! I still despise depthswalkers because it's SO damn spammy, but dwc runie wasn't.. so.. bad.
Today, I woke up completely nude after a very long sleep. I called out for help and someone named @Darcye was kind enough to give me some pants and a shirt. Someone named @Boosteya gave me some helpful advice. Based on the current year, I think I slept for roughly 91 years. My memory is still very hazy, but I think I was about 18 when I fell asleep, just after I passed the Trial of Fire. I don't know why I fell asleep and if someone (or something) is responsible for this, but I intend to find out. Meanwhile I will need to get some clothes and supplies, which is what I am doing right now.
Going asleep as a young man and waking up almost a hundred years later, an old man with a long grey beard.... I've had quite a hefty day.

And you won't be able to get into Minia and Lodi due to age. Going to be a hard road to start on...
Tharos, the Announcer of Delos shouts, "It's near the end of the egghunt and I still haven't figured out how to pronounce Clean-dat-hoo."
go catch a ton of butterflies, that'll get you started on vials and other cures then the rest will come as you leve..... not to bad starting out nekked
The restriction is 300 hours played, not character age.
I thought it was level 21 (according to the documentation), but whatever it is, I still have access to the Newbie areas of the game so it's definately not age.

It's funny how this could be viewed as an actual real life event...and I admit I was at first reading it as that. It actually sounds like a pretty cool story. Waking up after 91 years of sleep, naked and alone.
I thought the consensus was jester needed a rework.
Maybe. I'm not arguing against a rework. I was just saying that jester combat is harder to learn than serpent combat if you're going to learn to use both to their full potetials.
Would you say Serp is the greatest casualty of the automated defence/healing age?
Lightwall and Darkshade is definitely a boon, though I personally admit I dont feel as satisfied killing someone with darkshade as compared to a lock and toying with them to death.
There are several changes and additions in the game that have made it generally harder for serpents to go about things.
One example is the guard changes. There are so many guard stacks in cities these days, blocking chances to get to someone or even to try an range someone, that assassinations have become near impossible. I literally have to check not only rooms these days but if line of sight rooms can give me a chance to at least snipe and usually they all have guards. It is quite upsetting.
The amount of passive and activate healing abilities really doesnt help either. Any serpent can tell you that it is all about speed to get the affs in and lock before your target can retaliate to block it or panic from "Shit I should leave the room, he hit me too much". The current list of cures are:
Passive Cures:
Groves Panacea Devotion Healing Spirituality Care Tarot Sun Runelore Dagaz Harmonics Hallelujah Apostasy Syphon
I may be forgetting one...
Activate Cures:
Striking Alleviate Elementalism Bloodboil Metamorphosis Might Tarot Fool Aeonics Accelerate Venoms Shrugging Healing everything Spiritlore Daina Propagation Rage (only bellwort affs I believe) Chilvalry Rage (only bellwort affs) Alchemy Salt
Also likely I am forgetting something
While there are ways to go about countering it...it still slows you down and that is one of the biggest ways to counter a serpent: Reducing their speed.
I became a Spectral Arbiter (one of the triumvirs) in the Krymenian Academy! I've never been a HL before. I'm excited and a bit scared. But mostly excited!
Melaina Naftis - Spectral Arbiter of the Krymenian Academy
I had one of those now, sadly, not too often days where I can sit down and play Achaea for more than a few scant moments. Had a nice discussion with @Oxy about Hashan and it's really helped me as a player learn more about the world around Aziik. I look forward to seeing you all again as I may have some more time soon, thank you all for being so patient with me popping in and out the way I have to.
@Ailea@Shimi you both always make my time around more enjoyable so thank you both!

Worst 25 cr I've spent since non-decaying a shipaxe.

But if you are under level 21 and have played >300 hrs, you lose the ability to enter as well.
