S = Highest tier, AKA God tier A = High tier, very good character B= Good tier, I believe B- is the highest tier considered tournament viable. C= Okay tier, not used in tournaments much D= Bad tier, characters with limited use in a competitive setting F= Craptastic tier. Usually reserved for Joke characters and ones that are really bad.
S tier came from various games, generally started in Japanese 'fast reaction' type games like precursors to Osu. If you score high enough you get an 'S' grade, which is higher than the 'A' grade. This has been picked up by tons of games with hero/champion/class options to rate them at the time of the ranking.

Alchemist doesn't replace Apostate for 1v1, lol. Apostate is just as strong as those 3 for 1v1.
Apostate has comparably good momentum, however that alone doesn't make it S-tier
Alchemist has mobile room hinder, significantly better hinder (with access to 1.6 second paralysis that lines up with herb balance, combined with access to -both- clumsiness as well as lethargy). Alchemist is also harder to hinder than Apostate, as Apostate has to worry about clumsiness whereas clumsiness does not affect Alchemist offense. Additionally hinder does comparably less to slow Alchemist offense as opposed to Apostate's. Get rid of asthma and Apostate is set back considerably, hinder Alchemist and you maybe get to cure down some herb afflictions and if you're really lucky you can cure one of multiple tempers.
Not to even mention Alchemist's ability to afflict up to 6 afflictions + cause focus loss on one balance. Alchemist is definitely S-tier for 1v1, I would put Apostate in A-tier on that smash bros tier list.

That's alchemist's big threatening thing that you're supposed to avoid. Technically they can do it, but it's not like they can do it on every balance, and the approach to fighting against the class is to avoid being in a position where they can do it at all.

It's 8 phl humours for insta-lethargy, anorexia, slickness, weariness(4 affs, not 6), so all you need is asthma/para stuck, which are pretty easy parameters to meet. To counter, you can usually prio ginseng and shield-whore past 5 humour stacks until the level drops down again and watch if they switch their affs to locking affs, which is when you switch back.
Alchs also have a lot of tricks to rely on against poor curing, like corruption bleeding and the 8 chl + sens insta-kill(which I fell for 2x cause I was too lazy to make a simple prio switch alias). Their kill mechanics are quite simple/linear but super effective against a majority of classes.
You can inundate phlegmatic (four affs at level 8 fluids) and truewrack at the same time, so six afflictions. You only need to stick one of paralysis, asthma, and impatience beforehand (so, you know, totally trivial). You're just not supposed to let an alchemist get any of your humours to 8, it's like letting a Knight disembowel you with torso damage, or dropping below 50% mana against a Priest or Apostate.
We don't balance classes around poor curing. How strong is alchemist against somebody who cures very well?
Tharos, the Announcer of Delos shouts, "How fitting that the dawn shall welcome the triumphant win of Tibitha! Well done to all competitors, well done!"
Tharos, the Announcer of Delos gives a golden nest egg to you.
Tharos, the Announcer of Delos exclaims, "As promised, my nest egg!"
The glass of this large egg gleams golden, though the burnished material remains translucent to allow viewing of what exists within. Nestled comfortably at the centre is a large nest of neatly aligned twigs, where golden feathers encircle a smaller, aureate egg. A miniature version of the golden goose stalks around her roost, glaring angrily about in motherly protection for her creation.
Didn't think you could. Are all pets of the same sort the same gender?
Almost always. I feel like when Daveed used to sell temporary pets their gender could vary, but minipets for a long time have had a standard gender applied to each one.
