I did a key mistep the other month (lol/lot:and I was freaking tired), and didn't realize it, was warned about it and tried to save rp by making up something as I went along. I'm really trying hard to do the whole "limbcounter? You mean you forgot how many limbs they have?" or "System paused? Ohhhh you needed a nap, I got it... well next time rest up and remember that you're supposed to sip your health." and give them a subtle nudge to remember what is insanity without screaming HHELP INANITY every five seconds like some people.

I find my approach works much better than the whole scroll thing. IF they're confused, THEN point the scroll out. We are all human (save one, I think) and we make mistakes. Acting like a complete jerk does not win you favours in the 'I'm the best rp-er ever" department.
