To be honest, I think it's bugged. I got the relic and yielded it and ever since, I've walked with the grace of it. However, it never actually does anything, so I guess it's not a priority to fix.

Having the ring for 10 minutes gives the defence. At first you could just hold on to Life Giver for 10 minutes, get the defence and pass it on to someone else and they could get it and so on and it would work, you'd die and the LG defence would proc. Then it was changed to need the ring. the defence wouldn't proc without the ring. AND THEN relics were changed so that you couldn't pass them around freely so the previous change became pointless but the defence itself remains liek it was.

Also related to timing, I was sitting at the southern gates of Hashan with a full vibestack, with @Mithridates southeast presumedly also on a vibestack. This includes adduction.
Linus walks into Mithridates' room (A widening trail) and my vibes almost immediately adduct him and he dies. A couple minutes later, Mithridates also got adducted. My first thought was, 'Was he using grounding and only just dampened it? Or maybe his mass only just went down...' so I messaged him and yes, my adduction pulled him into my room between when his mass went down and when he would've reapplied it.
