Born in 90. There are kids who could be playing that never saw the N64.
In a couple months, someone younger than the Xbox (released November 2001) could be old enough to play Achaea.
  • Soon people are going to be logging in with their offspring.  *shudder*
  • You may drink another health or mana elixir or tonic.
You suddenly feel that it would be a fine idea to relax your cloak defence.

You feel a moment of disorientation as you are magically summoned.
Before the southern Pillar of the Morning.
The stars twinkle in the clear night sky. A runic totem is planted solidly in the ground.
Consecrating its surroundings, a raging pyre burns white hot in homage to the Righteous Fire. A
sigil in the shape of a small, rectangular monolith is on the ground.  Runelord Kadin Lucani, Blade
of Misrule is here, sprawled on the floor. He wields an ornate steel rapier in each hand. Daimyo
Jhui Ta'sa, Warlord of the Crossing is here. He wields a Shield of Absorption in his left hand. The
Blue Dragon Dunn's imposing form looms.
You see exits leading northwest and in.

Well. Minus the 'lol' parts. But the rest is basically word for word.

NamelessCyrenian says, "Damn limbcounter says 10, not 11."  <-- Actual quote.
Unless things have changed massively since I last played, I dare you to find any arena staging ground in any of the cities (yes, including Mhaldor) where you don't regularly hear stuff like that.

I have been guilty of it plenty of times as well. Certainly not proud of it though.
Techinally, other than the limbcounter part, is saying you break at 13 instead of 12 and that was throwing me off actually insane? Yes you are refering to the limbcounter but techinally couldn't you be doing this math equation in your head?

If the answer is no then I do this all the time. if the answer is yes then I do this all the time.

  • I saw the first message coloured in gold(?) and was like, 'Huh, something happening here?' then read that and the following (yellow) message and was like, 'Oh... Jesters.'

Technically, perhaps. But OOC/IC distinctions are very often not based around what's technically possible in the world of Achaea, but on whether it tends to evoke OOC or IC connotations. Precise numbers are something we associate more with the usage of computers than actual combat. (I for one have never heard anyone in a martial arts class talk about precisely how many punches it takes to break a given person's arm.)

While it is mechanically true that in Achaea a given player's limbs will always break after receiving a fixed amount of damage and that a weapon always does a fixed amount of damage, that isn't necessarily the case from a true IC perspective. In a living world comparable to the one we live in (which Achaea is to a large degree), we'd expect things to be much more imperfect and vague than what the game mechanics suggest.
