You're no fun. I was going to make burnt offerings to @Deucalion for part of my penance.

@Aerek and @Wessux and @Maethros and I should all go. Seriously, I live in memphis, we could all meet up at the airport (Cinnabon stop required) and get goin'.
@Melodie@Tasleus Actually, the airfare is my only real obstacle. I can't split it two or four ways. I've driven from Chatt-town to Las Vegas in two days, though.
Wait, are you telling me that @Maethros is close by, too? How did we end up with all these redneck Wardens?
-- Grounded in but one perspective, what we perceive is an exaggeration of the truth.
@aerek@tasleus Heh, I'm fairly close, being transplanted in sunny Florida. Does that make me more...pinkneck?
I'm jealous, though. Tennessee is bee-yoo-tiful! A few of my friends and I took a road trip to Murfreesboro (with long stops in Chattanooga and Nashville along the way), and rarely have I been more bummed to get back to the FLA.
And, word. Airfare is the great equalizer in all of my attempts to become a renowned world traveler. If I could ensure a steady supply of oxygen, I'd totally ship myself around the country.
These days airfare is sooo cheap (flights are miserable, but airfare throughout CONUS in particular, really is cheap). If you've somehow never used it, try Bing's price predictor! It doesn't work for some setups (like doing multiple cities), but it works very well. I'd go, but crowds :O
Here's the (rather old) article I was looking for about how the price predictor got its start (*shakefist* airlines):

Should I be worried about who my next door neighbor is, now?
Also, NC > Tenn. Sorry boys!

Any chance of a venue update on this? Or the group hotel discount thing that was talked about? I know it's 6 months off still but I'd like to get things taken care of soon ^_^
The multiple cab rides to and from the venue each day are going to add up quick According to google maps it is 4.2 miles to the closest point on the strip.
just split a cab with someone. I might just drive from LA or fly and then rent a car, I love some of the local restaurants and cabbing to them is ridiculous.
I was thinking of doing a rental, too. That or split the cab fare with a group. It shouldn't be too bad, as long as we're not heading to the rooms often.
(Party): Mizik says, "This can't possibly go wrong."
Also if you stay at a Harrahs or MGM casino they have a 24 all you can eat special (about $50/day). If you time it right you could eat all 7 meals within 48 hours (say Friday Lunch at 1pm, Dinner at 6pm, Saturday Breakfast at 9am (not happening for me in Vegas, ever), Lunch at 2, Dinner at 7), Sunday brunch at Noon fly back in the afternoon.
If you start hammering on flight and lodging now, I've found that Southwest (www.iflyswa.com) consistently has decent prices. Try to purchase your flights on a Tuesday or Wednesday (for some reason, most airlines have lower pricing on these days), and consider doing it in a bundle rather than using two or three different sites when booking (car rental, hotel, flight, etc.).
I am down for bringing Boggle, a cribbage board, a mancala board, and love playing spades and poker!

It'll probably be about $15 from the MGM to the estate in cab fair. That's a rough estimate based on Vegas cab rates and exclusive of tip. I'd definitely suggest carpooling. Carpooling BACK from the estate will obviously be easy as there will probably generally be at least one other person who wants to go back to the Strip.
When we get closer to the event, I'll send out an email and people who want to can let the group know which hotel they're staying at and a cell number to make it easier to carpool.
I don't know if any of you guys are morbidly obese, but 4.2 miles sounds like time to chat with fellow Achaeans during a walk to me.
Keep in mind that's likely 4.2 miles without shade and in 95-105F weather. Cools down considerably at night obviously.
Not to mention that this is a vacation, and no one wants to spend ~2 hours walking to get food or to go see a site.
@Sarapis - I was also going to ask if you were going to release the list of names of Achaeans attending? Would make it a lot easier to plan things (I know the person I'm staying with and I are going there on Thursday and hitting the strip, etc).

No, though when we get closer to the event we'll let people opt into that and we can post the names of the people who opt in.

Thanks for the email update, @Sarapis. Especially the hotel recommendations. It'll be a good time for sure.
