So remarked the wizard Hycanthus, as he trudged up the steps to his mountain shack a second time, returning from the Halls of Death at the behest of an irritable Mhaldorian. The collected might of the Cyrenian Resistance lingered outside his mediocre shack as he approached, kitted up for war.
The furore of fresh assault was well under way in Mhaldor and Ashtan both. With the two citystates occupied in a fight for their very lives, perhaps now they might leave the intrepid wizard to his own business, at long last.
Just want to say I’m glad this was referenced, it was fun to plan such a small, yet interesting spanner to throw into the works, and although not named, said Mhaldorian did a good job with it!
To all the IRE people involved in this ... You are ... AWESOME!
Perhaps a subject for another thread, but I was wondering, of those who were helping clear Cyrene after it's liberation:
1. What was your character's emotional state at starting the clearing?
2. By the time you had to leave, what was it then?
3. Did any of you also get that: Grim, hand-to-hand combat, take-it-back-one-bloody-street-at-a-time feeling?
From my part:
1. When Athelas started with helping the clearing effort, he was elated and
joyfully pushing tide back, making jokes about missing tea time and in
generally high moral.
He was clearing in an easterly direction, and by the time he got to Rumnic (Am I spelling that wrong) Street, I was sitting behind my PC with an image of a decimated city. Streets covered with blood, guts, gore and the twisted remains of corpses. So ...
2. He got to the point where he was just gritting his teeth and getting the bloody task of each section done. By the end, he was just a tired soldier, all too ready to have it over with.
3. Yea, grim hand-to-hand or rather claw-to-claw, one cursed tide beast at a time. IT WAS GLORIOUS! I've not had this from any other RP platform, ever!
I'm one of the bad guys, despite probably being the least murdery adventurer to somehow spin the wheel enough times to reach Logosian, but:
1. Grim determination. She signed up for this, so she'll carry it through. The tsol'teth's final demands rang like a peace offering to her ears, as a special note, making her hopeful for the future.
2. Disappointment she couldn't accomplish more, and very aware how inexperienced she is at war.
3. Even translating this Cyrene-specific question to make sense for what Hashani were up to, not really. I spent half the time watching the battlefield and the other half quarreling with my text sister, who kept trying to radiance me even though it only took one death for me to figure out how to CONCENTRATE, sheesh!
I also scared the crap out of @Tesha, which was really the best part.
The whole Cyrene-centric part of the event was astounding in how detailed and well-written it was. Really love the mournful quality of the new environment messages, the constant dripping of water, the whistling silence, it helps build a very specific kind of feeling that is very fitting for the aftermath of what happened.
I was definitely sad Hailqas'an died, though.
As for the questions, I don't feel like expanding too much because in so many ways everything is still on going, but regarding the last one, I got the 'chaos of battle' vibe more from the fight itself while we were all trying to figure out just what to do and Hailqas'an was going around the city and such.
And you won't understand the cause of your grief...
Built to withstand a primary siege, a rugged portcullis gate looms before a stone bridge. Overhead, a series of rotting heads belonging to Hailqas'an, Nahu'an and Aegoth hang from a bloody fortress pike.
This is a bit weird and obscure because I can't go into detail but: I see what you did there in that little event a while back with those words spoken to my character (and the others present) and it was beautiful seeing it come to fruition even if from afar. I REALLY hope but can't know that other people picked up on it too!
EDIT: also, the thing I take away from this entire event so far is that it has created a lot of causes for people who may have been lacking one before, and that's amazing for RP and general enjoyment. It's also clear that the amount of effort must have been tremendous.
To all the folks trucking along through this event, you've got my support and admiration. Some special mentions ahead.
All the folk controlling tsol'teth, you're doing a great job. Even if I got salty as hell earlier in the event about your involvement in raids, you've kind of been given a heavy hand to play anyway and you're doing what you can with it, I know that much. The RP I've seen fragments of has been nice.
The folk in teth allied cities who are using this event to struggle with internal character concepts, y'all got a rough road and I salute you.
All the folk fighting tide with seemingly no gain for, what, a month now? Two months? You're pretty darn cool and dedicated.
Azuros especially, for leading the White Wave to at least double the shrine destructions I had seen before & making it possible to walk places.
Jiraishin & Tesha, thanks for being mildly understanding and making it feel like I'm not utterly locked out of returning to Targ in the future (I definitely deserve to be stonewalled but hell, you two are just nice & don't deserve this drama).
Kiet, for giving someone like me time & conversation (even if it is obviously underlied with the idea of conversion ).
To the admin who initially listed Ygia on the little list of things to process (even though she was taken off later, which I understand cus yknow), thanks for giving me a cool memory - that & "discovered by Ygia" on Nur's wiki page give me some smiles still.
Everyone in Targ who had to fill positions I left, thank you & I'm sorry & I hope to retake the burden again someday (even if it is like in 2020 or something, or August or so - IG timer to IRL is confusing sometimes).
To everyone who had to read my earlier tantrums on the forums, thanks for being a trooper and not mocking me so much.
To the heads of teth allied cities, y'all got a hard task ahead of you whether folks agree with your decisions or not, and I can't imagine being in your shoes. Kudos.
All the frontline fighters in the raids & retaliation raids fighting to hold or push tsol'teth lines, your skills in combat impress, astound, & terrify me, and you ought to pat yourself on the back.
And lastly, a thanks to Lii and Milabar for remaining kind to me through this. We don't talk nearly enough but I kinda went inward on myself following all the drama and that's my fault. I promise to bring you both cookies someday. 💖
Edit: Oh. Also Cyrene. Y'all have dealt with a lot and you got your home back and that's awesome. I love you all.
"Allied cities" is pretty easy to say. There's a pretty big distinction between alliance and occupation. If we were occupied, we'd probably be blowing things up and setting things on fire like Cyrene.

I'm pretty sure I know what you meant, but for the record, please do not blow up or set anything on fire in Cyrene.
Oh who am I kidding, we're already getting raided. Time to fill some tanks!
