With the results of the ship race finally in, I would like to give a shout out to all the Mhaldorians involved that made such an incredible time possible:
So, @Titonus, @Melodie, @Ruth - a huge thank you for the special part you played. To @Jarrod, for being incredibly fast (that's what she said) and to @Saeva and @Taraus, our only ship captains for truly legendary sailing. You should all be proud of yourselves for such an outstanding effort.
Honorable mention goes to @Tahquil for providing alternate bait for @Artanis after we lost him.
Thank you, @Aurora. While my character is righteously angry right now, and filled with a passion I have seen all too rarely, the conversation and the after-effects of said conversation is pushing my Isaeah out of his mold even more.
Now to figure out what I can and can't do while I wait for this to tick away.
So like Mhaldor didn't bug out during the shiprace? :P
Prin (our first stop) bugged for us, but we chatted with our attendant and they were able to know the time when we started despite using a different command. We just had to go back to Prin at the end (that didn't count against our time) to re-do the command so we'd be set for the Gauntlet. Our attendant also told us the one command we should use, and we used that and there were no further problems.
And I love too Be still, my indelible friend That love soon might end You are unbreaking And be known in its aching Though quaking Shown in this shaking Though crazy Lately of my wasteland, baby That's just wasteland, baby
we had the bad luck of getting on Zaphar just as the tide rose, so we were stuck for half an hour. If it wasn't for the tide, we'd have placed fourth spot.
Oh well, looking forward to the gauntlet, sounds like an interesting experience
Aurora says, "Tharvis, why are you always breaking things?!" Artemis says, "You are so high maintenance, Tharvis, gosh." Tecton says, "It's still your fault, Tharvis."
if there was someone on the northern island that'd have worked

The bridge was actually open when we got there. The problem was Mosr dying when he ran for the room, and then the rest of us not thinking to get up to the northern island and wait while he embraced to make sure we could get back. The tide coming in while he was dead was definitely bad luck, but wouldn't have been a major setback if I or one of the others had been more on top of things. Overall, we could have done a lot better, but it's no one's fault but our own that we didn't.
Our performance aside, Mhaldor's run was seriously impressive. I doubt any of the other teams at their absolute best could have come close to that.
After mentally talking myself into thinking that I had ruined Eleusis' chances of remotely placing, it was kind of a relief that we got second. The sphere bugged in the room on Prin, and I had no idea until we got to Zaphar. We eventually decided to 'do our run and maybe redo Prin later - hopefully admin would answer before the trip was done?'
Then we had an abrupt halt when the sphere randomly disappeared when we got to Lothos. No one told me about the attendant commands before we began, and there weren't any admins around to help out until the end of sailing, so we just shuffled around 'Should we just go .. shopping?' (After all was sailed and done, an admin explained that the sphere would disappear if it wasn't 'retrieved' from the attendant every so often. Which is a bit disconcerting to worry about when you're doing a race and it happens!)
The only other people on the ship at that time was Lenn and Ellodin, who were around to assist. The latter was a big help after taking over captaining during the rougher parts of the sail. There were more people initially, but we (mostly me) were very wishwashy with where to begin, which directions the winds blew, and what ship to take.
We definitely could have done better and things could have gone smoother, but overall, I did enjoy it. (While I think it would have been more fun if I wasn't distressed/morose over whether I failed Eleusis because of mysterious, unanswered hijinks).
If you need me, you can find me sporadically on the Achaea Discord as Yae. Do not DM on forums unless you're ok with waiting a couple months!
Yae, I had a few similar moments of panic, myself. After hearing how many other people had buggy spheres, I just issued myself as soon as we ticked the first spot on Prin, fingers crossed, and just kept sailing. Made it out of the chops by Zaphar (Artanis still hot on my tail), and people are worrying whether or not our Prin location actually registered correctly, we might have to go redo the spot, and I had a Jesus-take-the-wheel moment - no way was I gonna backtrack, so I just sailed the rest of the course, while Ruth handled the attendant. Thank heavens it worked out in the end!
110% agree on the fun bit, I had a blaaaast, and I genuinely hope the rest of the captains sailing did, too. (and I kind of had it in my head that after I got sank by seaweed in the last big ship thing, I had to do something drastic to repair my street water cred )
I enjoyed hanging out with some cool people, but all-in-all, I didn't really enjoy it as much as I should have. It was just too much for me. There was a time when I could spend hours and hours just sailing, but these days it has to be in smaller doses.
I am retired and log into the forums maybe once every 2 months. It was a good 20 years, live your best lives, friends.
"Hey Jhui, get on this ship." "Jhui wavecall a bunch of times then go to sleep." "Fuck chops." "Where the fuck am I?" "Jhui wavecall some more." "We're done."
It wasn't fun. It was just something I had to do because nobody else wanted to. 1/10 would not do again.
Only positive was having @Taraus blow my mind with that time. I could have shaved like maybe 10 minutes off my time if I used windboost, plotted a real course and used a runner for an orb. Still wouldn't have come close to her time though. Fucking sea hag.
That goes to show you're not a proper sea captain! Just a wretched pirate presence. Muhahaha!
Also things like ship race would infinitely be more fun if there was more city interest/support from people who already sail rather than just depending on the known few to sail.
At least I got to find out helm triggers and aliases still work, including ship anticipate spam. Kek.
"Mummy, I'm hungry, but there's no one to eat! :C"

Best egghunt I've ever experienced. Being beaten thusly has turned my sunny side up.

Legit.
Penwize has cowardly forfeited the challenge to mortal combat issued by Atalkez.
Cascades of quicksilver light streak across the firmament as the celestial voice of Ourania intones, "Oh Jarrod..."
