Within 2 minutes of me graduating the Trial of Rebirth, Vicious ordered me to report on the progress of my Grunt trials. At that point I hadn't even moved from the initial portal spot yet. When I didn't respond in 20 seconds, he threatened to behead me. I told him I had just graduated from the trial, and then he told me I should quit Mhaldor.
About 30 minutes after that, Kresslack and Daitya ordered me to some location I didn't know to go hunting in Annwyn. When I said I was only level 15 they said it didn't matter and to follow orders or I would be beheaded. Was a great welcoming experience. It makes me silently giggle when I hear people ask why Mhaldor has such a hard time keeping new players and combatants.
I am shocked and amazed to hear that the Maldaathi have a problem with how novices are treated in the house. I tried to reshape the whole novice and recruit program about a year ago, a few months before I got permission to stay Runewarden but be houseless in Mhaldor because I just couldn't stand the House any more. No changes were made to the novice program but the MIB clan got reworked for the seventh time...
If the current MIB is the reworked MIB, I'd hate to see what it was before. You can barely read the help file. And it's very difficult to progress. If all of my spars and duels counted (they have to be watched by a Knight, of which there are maybe 3 active and most are 'too busy' when they are online) I'd have enough points to almost be a Knight right now. So for now I've put progressing in the MIB and house aside, it's just not worth it. Plus I get yelled at every other day by some power tripping CR2 that either takes something the wrong way, straight up lies about something that did or didn't happen, or finds some way to tell me I'm not good enough to be a Knight. It's very tiresome.
That sucks. I hope you get it fixed up. You did pretty well against me when I was running around Mhaldor, like a tiny bit away from a vivisect (while I was arguing with Sothantos I targeted you and he started freaking out and yelling at me!). Definitely as good or better than most of the Maldaathi that I see trying to fight alone, I think.
Not commenting on Maldaathi advancement because I have no idea what it's like, but comments above just made me think about how often it seems that the people most enthusiastic and dedicated to advance/trying to change things for the better get burnt out and disenchanted.
It happens in organisations everywhere, but it's kind of sad to see.

Find your way to the house library. There is a book in there that outlines the pretty simple system that was the precursor to the MIB system. Since then it's been changed and modified and reworked so many times. Almost always by people that had no idea what the purpose of the system was in the first place. It stopped being a tool for independent learning a long time ago. Now it's just another hop to jump through.
Most of the time alts come out just because it's hard to keep them secret. And a lot of the time it isn't fun. If I have an alt in Ashtan and I want to talk to people about current Ashtan events OOCly, I either have to not talk about the game OOCly with my friends (which is not fun), make a new group of OOC friends or risk that they will realize who the character is.
I thought the fun was precisely in lying to all your friends.
"Yeah I've been playing a lot of League of Legends lately. No I don't want to queue with you. Dirty bronzie."
If someone pulls a Profit and starts keeping records of your online activity and speech mannerisms, that level of creepy dedication is harder to do much about, since you can't log in both characters at once to throw them off. But you can give it a shot.

I was so mad about that. I had balance back in time to vivisect you, but I hadn't made a keybind for vivisect yet and spelled it wrong.
Sorry, @Asula, about your experience with the Maldaathi/Mhaldor. It isn't always like that, and I am quite astonished at the way you were treated. I mean, I know we are used to treating novices like shit, but it's always purposeful. Guess I'll really need to dig deeper to find out the underlying problem.
I like what little interaction I have from you though (Herenicus, mark, raids etc) and I hope we can continue to interact more!
"Mummy, I'm hungry, but there's no one to eat! :C"
@Asula there are reasons why you're having trouble advancing, and it has to do with the way you've been interacting with people. If you want to talk about it and actually listen, hit Katz up about it in game. If people do something like the things you listed when you were a novice, again TALK to someone like the HoN/HL. Log the conversation, and report it if you don't think it was fair.
@Kinilan there have been major changes to the novice program, and proposed changes to the MIB scroll, which I think is barely legible, but it's a massive thing to change with everyone currently having points, and making it all fair.

Nah, Katzchen. I'm not having any problems advancing. I realized from the second we talked that you weren't going to like me.
Interactions like the one we had where someone was sniping you while I was learning from you, and I closed the door and went to attack them, and you responded by being mean and calling me stupid for not knowing where every guard in Mhaldor was located (there wasn't line of sight to where we were standing, and it was someone just testing snipe on you) are the kind of things that push people away.
And when you DID get something reported to you, you shoved it aside because of your personal relationship with him (which I did not know about until afterward, otherwise I would have gone over your head). I also reported the interaction with Daitya, Kresslack and Vicious to both Carmain and Orchist, but didn't have them logged, and nothing ever happened about it.
Here's the log in question:
You tell Deacon Aegoth, "Where did your artefacts go?"
Aegoth tells you in Mhaldorian, "I sold them."
You tell Deacon Aegoth, "That seems like an interesting move."
Aegoth tells you in Mhaldorian, "I'll give you a real fight later."
Aegoth tells you in Mhaldorian, "Those weren't my artefacts anyway."
You tell Deacon Aegoth, "Yes, I know those weren't your artefacts."
You tell Deacon Aegoth, "You are not restricted to spar honourably like I am, it is your choice to borrow artefacts for a spar with a city mate."
Aegoth tells you in Mhaldorian, "I don't appreciate you implying that I am a dishonourable combatant, Slave. Artefacts or no, a battle is a battle... and in the field, honour means nothing."
You tell Deacon Aegoth, "I implied nothing. I am a Maldaathi, my honour is my life, and honour means everything to us."
Aegoth tells you in Mhaldorian, "Prevarication does not suit you, Slave. I will look forward to our next fight nonetheless, and hope to see your true mettle."
You tell Deacon Aegoth, "I will not allow you to call me a liar, that is not acceptable."
Aegoth tells you in Mhaldorian, "You did lie though. See to it that you do not do so in the future."
You tell Deacon Aegoth, "I most certainly did not."

You tell Deacon Aegoth, "That was not an implication, that was a statement. You did indeed fight dishonourably by borrowing artefacts."
Aegoth tells you in Mhaldorian, "If you believe that using artefacts to fight is dishonourable, then you have very much to learn yet about combat, Slave."
You tell Deacon Aegoth, "Using your own artefacts is not dishonourable. Borrowing others to become stronger in a fight and lying about it, however, is."
You tell Deacon Aegoth, "Lying that they were your artefacts was also dishonourable, and lying to me that you sold them was as well."
Aegoth tells you in Mhaldorian, "Oh? Then is Messiah Xer a dishonourable combatant? He often borrows Dragonknight's artefacts to fight."
You tell Deacon Aegoth, "Those not in the Maldaathi do not have our same view on honour, and are not required to fight honourably or fairly."
Aegoth tells you in Mhaldorian, "The lying, yes, was dishonourable."
Aegoth tells you in Mhaldorian, "You need to speak carefully, child. Were you saying this to anyone but myself, your head would be on a pike. Consider this a warning about humility and caution regarding usage of the words "honourable" and "dishonourable"."
You tell Deacon Aegoth, "I will ensure to inform my direct superior of this entire conversation."
Aegoth tells you in Mhaldorian, "Please do, Recruit."
Aegoth tells you in Mhaldorian, "In any case, we shall fight later."
Protip: when your city rank is called 'Slave', you might not want to have as free a tongue as you'd like. Work on getting Troni, man. Like, 90% of that bullshit goes away once you hit CR2.
The person in question got to Troni about..2 hours before that conversation because he placed in the Crucible (an event that no one even bothered to tell me was going on, or else I could have won and been Troni), and was 19-20 years old.
Regardless, rank doesn't mean you get to lie and be dishonourable and an asshole and threaten people and get away with it. Well, I guess it actually does. Which is the reason why people don't stick around in Mhaldor!
What... apparently saying it's fine someone was just testing, and there's guards in every room in LoS = calling you stupid and being mean? I don't even know what to say to that.
It's pretty amusing that you think I lied, was being dishonourable and an asshole.... and made up some illusion that I threatened you. You were being genuinely butthurt and started mouthing off to me. A ton of other Mhaldorians borrow arties. This doesn't make them "dishonourable". I told you I'd give you a real fight, then you spouted off garbage at me. You really expect that I wouldn't retaliate? Further, that was not a threat, that was me saying you're lucky I'm NOT someone of higher rank or you WOULD have been executed... because guess what? That's what would have happened. You're either clueless or a troll, and you won't really last much longer if you keep up your attitude and blatant lying to people.
It's not just Katzchen or me... it's a lot of people who are talking about you negatively. Work on how you interact with people... you're not hot shit yet... in fact you're not even shit. RP-wise, you're a little meaningless slave. Embrace it and work past it like i did. I got killed, executed and punished for being a little cocky when I was CR1 and I took it without a complaint... yet here you are whining like a little bitch. If anything, I hope that you learn somedayand grow up. I suppose we can all rave about that
@Asula I will say this: @Katzchen is probably one of the nicest people in Mhaldor. Even if you feel she insulted you, I'd suggest giving it a second time. As for the rest... Yes, it is stupid, and unfortunate. Just... try to see past it? There are a lot of people who will make your time in mhaldor truly enjoyable, so work with them, get noticed, and then pay the assholes back :P
And you won't understand the cause of your grief...
Wow... what the hell is with people who don't even know me insulting me? How about you actually get to know someone before deciding they're an asshole.
Man, @Asula, just join Targossas. I'll treat you like shit and ignore you as well, but at least I won't lie to you and then tell you to grow up on the forums when you call me out on it.
ETA: As an added bonus, we don't even have Houses so you never have to worry yourself about the frustration of trying to advance in one.
Starting to look like the ranting session in here, so here's a rave. The Druids' imprinting ritual is just awesome, a great way to make a young member feel welcome, important and part of the House. Many kudos.
