I think that was the only time that I've ever actually enjoyed group php in this game other then the ctf (and even that was a bit meh). Heck, I managed to, like, double my k/d. It is also the only time I have ever appreciated lightning as a skill.
Does anyone here hate when you go to welcome a newbie cuz its your job and the newbie turns around and acts like he literally knows everything in the world? Come on! Horrible role playing!! In a hurry to just blast to full member. Only wants a mentor cuz they have to. Seriously! I don't care if your a veteran at the game!! At least try and act young! This is as much about role playing as knowing the mechanics! Okay. Rant over. Haha

I can't like this enough, and being an Occultist when I have a know-it-all novice who gives the answers that convey 'I'm telling you exactly what you want, with no effort what so ever', I get immediately suspicious of your motives as a player. Anyone else have this problem?

Yes. Totally. I wonder if they just want a power grab or something. Or try and cause havoc. Or maybe just selfish..
Would rather have a know it all novice than one who pretends to know nothing and wastes your time when they've been playing for years. If it gets too much, tell it to stop being such a smarmy little shit and be done with it.
Novices have been living in the achaean world for 18 years. Why can't they know quite a bit about it? Yes, those who come in claiming to know everything are annoying, but I'd rather a mid ground. You know geography? Your character likes to explore. You know a lot about your city? They grew up there. But you should never rp that you know better than superiors, that's just stupid.
Is it roleplaying when you're not just pretending to be a character, but a character whose player is new to the game? Seems excessively meta.
I agree that it's dumb for a newbie to pipe up and say stuff like "Prin is way better bashing than LHG" or "fish that aren't from the fishbowl don't work any more", and it's generally better to keep a low profile when you start out as an alt. But I don't see the point in pretending not to know the very basics. I'd be happy if, as a novice aide, I could skip through the rote introduction and standard skills-tattoos-curatives Q&A and do a little actual roleplaying.
Just to offer my meager two cents as an Achaean-but-not-MUD-newbie...
I don't know if this is just me, or is a common thing, but I had a bit of negative experience (not enough to be a deterrent! Just something relevant to the discussion) with people assuming I already knew the basics. I did grasp the -basic- basics, and maybe that's what threw people, but I didn't learn a lot of things that made life loads easier until much later, after interacting and speaking to people OOC--things like traits, specialisation, waterwalking boots (OMG wish I knew about -those- sooner!) and so on.
I -am- coming from a game that's way more heavily bent toward RP than (what I've seen of) Achaea is, and so I admittedly responded to most 'Hi newbie-person how are you?' prompts with emotes or in-character discussion or observations. Maybe that's what threw people, too!
So my point is, while it's great to interact and skip the basics, I think it's important to at least offer them, too. Having loads of alts and being used to working with alts can sometimes blind us to the needs of real newbies, or result in us taking a lot of 'general info' for granted. It's a careful line somewhere!
Tried my hand at writing narratively for log records that was supposed to be posted on newsboards. Took much effort, but I think I like that better than copy/pasting.
Sry, @Aepas, took a little creative license on that one.

I was expecting to read a log when I saw the post, but was pleasantly surprised.
I liked it a lot, it was very event post-esque and I think it makes it a lot more fun for people to read. Event post writers don't get enough credit as it is - it's not easy to condense an event down into a narrative and make it worth reading as opposed to a pure log.

After a few days taking my sweet arse time reading scroll after scroll after scroll I would like to thank the House of Occultists (can I tag them??? @Occultists) for taking me in.
I would also like to thank @Sybilla and @Malorn for my first exam. Sooo happy I passed.
I look forward to Avaline's further advancement (Gods willing ;3 ) and both her and my own exploration of Achaea as a world.

Loved the event post, and yeah I think it's a great idea for events, though a lot of work. But doesn't really work for sermons, etc so much.
I love condensing events down into a post. It's hard work, but it's really enjoyable. I've written posts like this for the Order before, for our various events - Neraeos encourages it a lot. I've found I really love telling stories as Mel, as well. It's fun and it captivates people, and I just live the feeling of it.
I've never really posted them publically, though, other than the Order. Maybe I'll do one or two on the forums. Hmm.
And I love too Be still, my indelible friend That love soon might end You are unbreaking And be known in its aching Though quaking Shown in this shaking Though crazy Lately of my wasteland, baby That's just wasteland, baby

It's not too hard to play a very quick learner and make it apparent that your teacher doesn't need to waste time on the basics without waving around a big red flag proclaiming that this isn't your first character in this house. This one was closer to the latter end of that spectrum.

One of us! One of us! One of us! One of us! Google goggle google goggle!
eh, it isn't a rant, per se. There's some coolness to getting to claim the title of the last forestal in Mhaldor.
If there was an associated rant, it's that things like this always remind me that I actually need to work on interaction and rp. I goes none of it right now
I've actually really enjoyed this icon stuff, even if it does all happen when I am at work or sleeping. azn time yaknow.
It's given a good sense of Mtown V everything and even though there seems to be a lot of bitterness, I'm sure it's giving a better sense to the worldwide factions. Alliances are being made stronger, and Mhaldor is becoming more infamous. We'll loose our icon, today likely, but that's fine. Mhaldor used it as a weapon rather than the passive stat booster, so nothing is really lost and I think that falls well into terms with Mhaldor's ideals.
On the downside, the level of bitterness I've seen on it is pretty bad. I know Mhaldor is the bad guys, but all the offhanded and passive aggressive stuff. Just bleh. It's a game, we're the bad guys, we do mean things. Don't go on a holy rant and damn the Mhaldorian characters as well as their players. I like to think I'm still a good guy...sometimes.
And Mhaldor, for shame. Say nothing in victory and less in defeat, or however that saying goes.
