I might agree, but seeing how a 15-stack relinquish (which is claimed to be LOADS of magnitude better) has no visible effect on Master shrines yet, I wonder how quickly things will get repetitive/drawn out with people just going on their own and getting 1-, 2-, 3-stacks max.
The event in general is boring because of the obligation of using the splinters on shrines. People were already to the point of taking a splinter and running to an effective safe room to hold until they could get to a Master shrine with no recourse if they used any intelligence. It would have only gotten moreso to that point.
I would much, much rather accelerate the shrine rebuilding and finish this stage of the event in a day or two than deal with the annoying grind of the hourly gank/hide for a week. If splinters keep appearing then it's actually fun because there's no obligation to get or hold onto them, and you can actually use them for fun without feeling like you're hurting your faction's advance.

There's always PKing Jhui/Dunn/Hirst! I mean, if this massive group can't even kill three little Ashtani, what're the chances when you're all Balkanized that you're going to be able to?
The alliance stuff is a pretty nice change of pace from the typical log in, pk, log out stuff that typically happens during these types of events. There are other facets to the game besides PK ALL THE THINGS, and I think it's awesome that such a treaty became a thing. We're playing in Achaean history right now, it's immensely exciting and it's incredibly interesting. People are going back to read the lore to try to figure out what's going on, there's doom and gloom everywhere, Divine essence is leaking everywhere, this is an amazing event.
@Tesha : You do realise it has boiled down to huge squads of people rolling together to obliterate the other, smaller pack of people because of this alliance. Isn't that the definition of a gank squad?
I'm rather surprised the Babel faction choose to side with the Tsol'teth. That basically implies accepting the Tsol'teth as their overlords and I do believe renouncing their God as well. I'm not sure how they will play this out. Quite fun though

They chose to side with Babel and Babel only... not sure how that is remotely renouncing their own god for the Tsol'teth.

Yes apologies, misinterpreted that public news post, specifically this line "I have been informed that those of Lord Babel's Order have decided to side with the Tsol'teth, though they might not believe themselves to be."
I'd hardly say you could call it a gank squad when deathsight is basically in favor of Ashtan 10 to 1. It's more like a smaller group of people is successfully group fighting a large group of people through tactics and arties.
EDIT: The alliance is the only way to make it fair... for everybody else!
you became an avatar on purpose, you happened to relinquish as we were attacking you. You died a non-avatar. Rules won't save you here. We're not old school cause-Achaea.
If you'd chosen not to become an avatar on purpose, you'd have a point. Otherwise, you put yourself in the fight.
i am very much enjoying the event. this is my first big achaea event and for better or for worse, it happens to be a pretty big world defining event.
just want to say that one thing about the ooc vs ic motivation debate. i feel that ooc motivations for choosing ic actions should not always be looked down upon. achaea is a game after all and if someone is asking themselves the question, "will i have fun going down this route?", i personally would not fault him or her for it.
I'd just like to point out, as a resident order head, that no one is forcing players to rebuild shrines except players. I haven't heard of any God saying "Quick, rebuild My shrine ASAP or else." You want to RP that way, that's cool, but let's not pretend in any OOC capacity that we're required to care about text shrines, especially when most of us spend most of our OOC time complaining about maintaining them.
-- Grounded in but one perspective, what we perceive is an exaggeration of the truth.
also, just because a choice seems like the only reasonable one icly to you or the majority player base does not mean i as a player am an idiot for not having my character conforming to it.

"Can" is different to "will" - though you were an Avatar when you
started. If you'd relinquished, escaped, and then they killed you later
on without you attacking first, then I might agree with you.
I do, however, agree that a lot of people aren't bothering to check. But when has Achaea's player base ever proven
itself capable of restraint? We're a bunch of children conditioned to jump at the first
chance we get for risk-free murder. Remember the Bal'met finale where everybody was actually responsible for onc-well, never mind then.

The new way of doing things is a bit lame. Went to look at a splinter and was attacked by Bleak/Antonius/Xaden just for touching it. Wasn't even an Avatar. When I tried to say I wasn't an Avatar I was still attacked. So much for looking at them. Seems like most other events, if you're not in the main group your target for gank squad. Only thing that changed is now you can gank with a city enemy.
That sort of thing happens when the leaders have no hard power. There are people in the clan saying 'talk to X first', 'someone talk to X' or 'is X hostile', and others attacking at the drop of a hat.
A big part of the cooperation, I think, comes down to the (reported!) math for how relinquish works. Specifically, people have indicated that the bonus effect is for relinquishing is exponential. Hence, if I count each gathered splinter as being worth 1000 essence (as the Announce post suggested) then three individual splinters would count for 3000.
But an exponential scaling for the bonus would suggest that three splinters at once would count for something like 1000^3 i.e. 1 billion! That's a rather eye-popping figure, one which would dwarf the base amount. Moreover, the sheer number of players after splinters each round means that the only practical way for large splinter collections to happen for people to voluntarily wait their turn rather than jump the gun. So that scenario would seem to very strongly favor cooperation between Orders, with many splinters per relinquish rather than many people with single splinters.
That said, I'm more than a little skeptical of this being the true calculation. For one, I've not taken into account the difference between gathering essence and subverting essence. More importantly, in my opinion, I've baldly assumed that the way relinquish works with multiple splinters is that it multiplies them together rather than just adding them. This would be exponential in the number of splinters, but it's not the only such scenario. (An exponential law includes both a base and a prefactor.)
All in all, I think this to be a scenario where players having info about the underlying formulas would actually help improve competition, by showing that the above logic is flawed. But within the present model, cooperation really does seem quite rational.

Honestly the PK part of it boiled down to gank squads and lamery on day 1, which is exciting for like 5 minutes and tedious for the rest of the 2 weeks. Hopefully the alliance makes this phase go by faster and we can see what happens next sooner! Great thinking @Skye, @Jarrod, uhh... @everyoneelseexceptthatcrazyJhuiguybutgoodjobtoyoutoobecauseyoukeepthingsinteresting.

MMMN.
Gotta love whenever you're not an avatar and people still kill you anyways...
Even when you tell them.. numerous times...
PS: If @Proficy can stop whenever he hears that someone already relinquished...
Ya'll can too.
