I always tell people to be careful with squats cause I had a friend who literally broke their back coming down wrong with it. Though good for you @Archaeon!
The hip rise is due to the shoes. Those are made specially for Olympic weightlifting. Remove them and then when you're sitting down into the starting position you should be feeling the tension in your hamstrings. The way I think of it is that I want the bar to be the thing that's holding me down from falling backwards. Then when I lift I want to push the earth down with my feet while pulling my hips through until fully standing. Remove the shoes and lift in socks. Drive with the heels.
Also thank you for not dropping the bar. The concentric movement is equally as important.
Just got home from spending a week with @Kuririn. 100% did not want to leave. (My kiddo snuck into the pic lol) This was the day i arrived. we were both tired as hell since neither of us slept well the night before.

Girl Child #1 is 5 now, and has had girl child #2 join her party:
....girl child #2 is also 9 months old now and considerably bigger, but i haven't done photo updates to my computer in 3 months. Stay tuned!
Can't see the plates, but I'm pulling 275lbs x 1 @ RPE ~9. I'm a small dude (122lbs), so I'm pretty happy with it.
Pardon my exposed thigh (and the fact that I angled my phone completely wrong... and that my butt's coming up way too soon... gotta work on that)
Also thank you for not dropping the bar. The concentric movement is equally as important.
i’ve been meaning to get a pair of Converse specifically for deadlifting, but in the meantime, I’ll try just socks.
Thank you!
