So, my math professor has been at his wits' end because of me, and it's only been two days into the quarter. As most everyone is aware, by now, I'm dyscalculic - it's like math dyslexia; I mix up numbers, I have trouble differentiating certain numbers, I can't tell my left from my right without sitting there and doing the "L" thing with my fingers, and a whole list of other things that keep me from functioning on par, mathematically, with your average third-grader. I'm a severe case, and exhibit nearly every warning sign on that list. My professor has never encountered a dyscalculic student before, and he was under the impression that I was just bullshitting him until I pulled out the paperwork from my campus disability services office. After that, he just seemed annoyed that he had to deal with it.
Today, after class, he pulled me aside and told me that he'd spoken with another math professor about me in passing. It turns out that -she- had had a dyscalculic student, and that she had done some research into the subject and discovered a method that might help me out, given my propensity for confusing numbers, in which colours are assigned to specific digits. I've come up with my own little colour-code, now, which I am working to memorize. If this works, my professor has agreed to do me a favour and print all of my exams with the digits in each problem coloured.
I've tried colour-coding the numbers in Achaea, but I can't get more than one at a time to appear highlighted, so I'm not sure the system will help me with typing item numbers quite yet. It's a start, though.
My avatar is an image created by this very talented gentleman, of whose work I am extremely jealous. It was not originally a picture of Amunet, but it certainly looks a great deal like how I envision her!
As for the Achaean case: in most cases, scripts can help you avoid having to type item numbers altogether. I rarely ever type one out, as frankly: disability or not, item numbers are a huge pain.
I actually wish Achaea had some more intuitive ways of addressing things, by allowing syntaxes like "get third book from second shelf", "garrote imp lord", "buy red jacket", "vote for Kastalia in 3rd election". But until such things become reality, I'll have to make do with scripted solutions.
Times like this I wish I was sitting at my computer rather than on the train. It wouldn't take long to knock out a number colouriser for you. If someone doesn't beat me to it I'll see if I can help when i get home.
That is seriously awesome. I have similar problems and I make the L shape with my left hand more times than I really want to admit.
Working in ministries in game like Trade end up frustrating after a while. I lost count of how many times I'd message Lisbethae about making a mess of the trade logs because, despite even using a calculator, I still input numbers wrong.
I still copy and paste item numbers for the most part. It's slightly faster but I really miss zMud for the instant copy to clipboard when you highlight something.

On the other hand, having the numbers in Achaea coloured appropriately could be helpful in getting the colour code memorised.
@Amunet It's awesome that he's willing to print exams in colour for you. Always nice to see people being open to learning about and accomodating disabilities, rather than just dismissing or complaining about them.
That awkward moment when you pass a police car parked on the side of the road, pass it, and flash another police car by accident to warn them about the first one.
So glad I am not driving because that's freaking hilarious.

I know I have nothing scheduled at work today so I pull out my phone to text my boss and ask her if I can take the day off.
See a message 'did you hear about the burnt server room?' go 'wtf?' and scroll down. Turns out the boss messaged us all to tell us that the server room burnt down somehow and we're not allowed to go to work until the smoke clears, so everyone has to stay at home.
I usually don't check my phone in the mornings, only pulled it out today because I had a sudden feeling that I didn't want to go to work today. It would've been an hour's drive there and an hour's drive back if I hadn't seen the message.

I really miss zMud for the instant copy to clipboard when you highlight something.
This was one of the reasons I really hated Mudlet when I first switched to it; being able to double-click on an item to highlight and instantly copy it to the clipboard just made life so much easier. To be honest, eight or so months later, I still rage about not being able to do it every time I go shopping.
Rave: Looks like a promotion is in the works! My boss just gave me part of her work (she's currently taking on two jobs) - something she doesn't trust anyone with. Then someone else higher up mentioned that she asked if I would be suitable to take the position, and he recommended it! (knowing where I work, it'll be a month or two before it happens, but still!)
It's confirmed, and it'll be official on the 22nd!
I get to take my nephew to Chuck e Cheese this weekend. I just hope that his mom doesn't go batshit crazy again and change her mind so that I have to go to court for family visitation rights again.
I am retired and log into the forums maybe once every 2 months. It was a good 20 years, live your best lives, friends.
Bioshock infinite is beautiful and it just keeps getting better. I finished it, and started a second play through and the amount of clues to the plot is staggering. So so clever. 10/10. Best storyline i've seen in a game in -years-.

Netflix put a bunch of old, awesome cartoons on their listings, such as Courage the Cowardly Dog, Ed, Edd n Eddy, Hey Arnold, Dexter's Laboratory, Rocko's Modern Life, etc. Winning! I realize this might seem like a childish rave, but I don't care. These are childhood classics.
@Kresslack I saw that yesterday and then today my son- on his own mind you- put on Dexter's lab, a random batman show, and then Adventure Time. I think I've raised my son right!
Just reminded about this from the credits thread in ranting. Just before my birthday my boyfriend was trying to suss out what to get me he asked if you can spend money in the games I play to get stuff. When confirmed he asked if that's something I would like. He's awesome for trying to feeding my gaming addiction. (Btw I tactfully declined.)
Does anyone ever donate or help any organizations annually? I have to say, I've never really given assistance or donated to anything I can think of during my life, aside from helping to family and friends in need.
This all changed a week ago, and I donated a good amount to a program that helps very poor that are holocaust survivors living in the former Soviet Union. I've never felt the feeling I got after doing that, and it makes me kinda misty eyed I have to say! Like i did something right for once. Whew. I'm going to stick with this organization for as long as they are still with us. Now I'm trying to see who else has been helping other orgs, as maybe I'll gain faith there are still good people in the world

As a designer, getting the chance to help out with charities is a big deal in the industry. I usually don't go for those things since around here a lot of the money doesn't even go to the people that need it most. I will mention though that my first real design gig was doing stationery designs and colour-me-in illustrations for a charity that helps victims of child abuse here. I learnt so many things as a designer and about psychology — stuff like how certain colours can set off certain emotions in the children and how to deal with trauma. I wouldn't say I got a thrill, but it was certainly something about it that made me think that adults are assholes but also that there are people out there who are willing to help these kids learn to manage their anxieties. I still help out with the work now and then, since it's unpaid with no deadlines, I'm all for it. It's made me a better artist for it.

Every year I go door to door in my neighborhood collecting money for a charity that deals with rheumatism research. In return, I always give something when people come to my door for other charities.
My religion forces me to give charity. I generally i give around 100 dolllarsish a month to various humanitarian and wildlife causes. Its not much but its better than nothing. WWF and oxfam get most of it.

I donate monthly to Amnesty International and The Fred Hollows Foundation.
I usually donate a significant amount to friends that participate in fundraising like Movember and World's Greatest Shave. When I was much younger, I also participated and did my best to raise money for charities through MS Read-a-thons and 24 Hour Famines.

Damn, I've never considered that before.
See, me, and a lot of others assume at first glance the WWF is all about money and being well off. Truth be told, The Rock, Triple H, and Stone Cold Steve Austin are exceptions to the rule, and live very comfortably. Ever see the movie The Wrestler? That's a more honest depiction, as these heroes of ours put their bodies on the line for our enjoyment, and are often left penniless with very major physical injuries.
Seems my work is not done, as my next paycheck is going to WWF to buy a mink coat for a cold wrestler this winter
Went out to dinner with some friends tonight at this place that makes American-style buffalo wings. New concept for us (being in Australia). Geez your country makes spicy (but tasty!) chicken wings. I had no problem eating one or two of them since I'm used to spicy food but the big, burly miner mates of mine were crying after just half a wing. This place has competitions to see who can eat the most without dying…
Also, full up on scotch *hurps*
