  • I don't know, Cyn. Pick a denizen that doesn't move and a Runewarden can't tank. Again, assuming no arties. The point there is that Magi can "cheat" their hunting level with adduction, reflection, and patience.

I don't have the denizen numbers on staffcast but depending on the intelligence I think they do 800-1400 to adventurers. But yes it's single hit. But stormhammer is where Magi competes with monk for offense, both can deal three hits at once. Being able to reflect while waiting for the denizen to unshield again is pretty useful too. Don't know if you can erode denizens but Reflection is faster anyway.

According to the word of the almighty @Penwize, though, isn't hunting outside your level just bad for leveling - both in terms of being unnecessarily slow and having unnecessary risks?
This, for one... If you need to hit and run, you're not really a candidate for 'best basher' ... That's the whole point in being the best basher, is being able to tank through hits, and speed kill things. Which is what Sylvan, Runewarden and Monk all do exceptionally well at, whereas most other classes are half and half with the Tankiness/Clear speed.

This is also assuming you're not constantly getting runes from other people, because then that too drops your exp(and gold, if you're going for that) per hour down quite a bit.

PS. If you've played a con spec'd - properly trans'd Runewarden (tri+avoidance) then you'd know there really isn't a whole lot they can't tank, lol. Aside from honours mobs. Rakrr, np. Ducal guards, np. Vewig, np... I think the only thing that you'd maybe need to hit and run on, if you're not high levelled or artifacted, is... That delos guard who's with Clynalia, assuming you don't get lucky crits on them. - Good fullplate with runicarmour + body runes, you're gonna be dragon level tankiness.

--------- Yeah. Magi have harmony, adduction, reflection, stormhammer. Staffcast is pretty good damage for the balance but you can mow down non chasers in massive groups with stormhammers and adduction. It would top out but then you get crits on your casts. Runie has more steady hunting and tankiness, they might win in straight force but magi have incomparable hit/run with adduction so they can hunt Delos guards and stuff early on.
Adduction fighting is good in a tight spot when you just need to clear a huge group... which makes me useful on occasion.

Harmony... are you suggesting to use thousands of crystals over the course of bashing to have the wee perk it affords?

Reflections are the one thing about magi hunting that is extremely helpful. But being able to turtle still doesn't make for great bashing. It just means you'll be able to avoid death more efficiently.

Being able to kill something using tactics or patience does not equal great bashing on the scale I believe people are judging classes on.

  • Last time I got into a one on one fight, I went to New North of Thera, prodded Dalran in the chest, and then said we had a score to settle. Then we started fighting.

Then you got jumped like 3 times and I stopped and you still kicked my ass ): retardation op
  • Magi was a lot better for bashing before specialisations/traits, because of grook being great and skins being more dependent on int. It's not nearly as good now, but still good (aside from unartied offense).
  • Yeah monk still takes the cake but the next two are generally still magi and runewarden. I don't know how much endurance runies use if any, but in an area with tons of stuff to clear magi can do it faster with stormhammer. Wonder what the dps on that is.

  • I don't know why you all keep saying runewarden. Infernal is better.

    @Sena is back. Woot!

  • Not actually back for at least another week, I just read a few posts occasionally in certain topics (the ones without hundreds of new posts to go through).
  • @Shecks @Penwize - any other good hunters of gold! (I left Sena out coz holidays)

How much gold do you think someone of level 80 could earn in 4 hours of hunting, and how would they even do that? Typically.

    Oh..

  • @jovolo For unartied at 80, I was doing Dun Fortress which would give about 15k a run (including giving the corpses to dwarves) in about 35min, with the repops being about the same time if you offer/trade in all the corpses. If you are just looking for gold, you will want to kill things you can turn in rather than the best xp stuff. I liked bellas too at 80 but you need a  way out of the top and to give the stuff to helf'gar to make it worth the time.

@Jovolo Class is huge, as is the fact that you're not getting good crits yet.  At this point any bashing you do should be focused on experience, not gold.  You could easily be dragon in two weeks from now if you bash well, a month if you take your time.  That's when the money train rolls in.

However, even at 80 you should be able to pull in 30-40k an hour, using well engineered routes and high efficiency bashing techniques. (queuing, fast travel, respawn timing).  Adding a crit pendant (even level 1) and a bunch of lucky sips are going to dramatically increase your bashing speed - and you'll definitely want a pendant when you get dragon, so you might as well buy it now and get the benefit on the way there.

I learned everything I know about efficiency farming from Diablo.  To do it well you literally do like 5-10 runs in every single location, and come up with an average gold/time for each one, including travel.  Then you basically go from the top, down that list, based on what's up.

Another HUGE mistake people make is bashing things they can't tank.  If you have to stop attacking, -ever-, you should not be bashing there.  It is -always- better for your overall gold:time and/or exp:time to fly quickly through areas.  This also gives you more consistent run times which is pretty important for extended bashing trips.  Sometimes the minute or two (10 seconds for me <3 earring) it takes to get runes will pay dividends if it lets you do an area faster than normal.  I see this more than anywhere in Annwyn, with people doing courts.  Sidhe ladies, either by design or by fate, work such that if you don't have somewhere around a 30% or higher crit rate, bashing Sidhe takes massive efficiency losses to rope/shield loops, and rope in general slowing you down.  I only see rope/shield on like one out of five rooms with a lady in it.  Under level 90, you're going to take 3 times longer to clear the area than a dragon with high crit chance.  You're literally making moghedu gold per time.  Probably less.  The same goes for Unsidhe, because of the high damage in the 3/4 stacks.  I can walk in and kill four unsidhe without stopping/running.  If you can't do 2-stacks of Unsidhe, You shouldn't be bashing Unsidhe.

Moral of the story:  Efficiency.  Every milisecond you're bashing that you're not off balance, you're wasting money.

edit: one last thing:  Favors.  Bashing has momentum, and it comes in the form of TFs or HFs.  A highfavor or truefavor makes LHG efficient for me when it otherwise is slow and cautious.  It makes DKs & Unsidhe efficient for most people when they otherwise aren't.  If you're going to bash, then BASH.  Get the favors, and reap the rewards.  Give the essence you get using the favor(s) to the god that favored you, and you'll find yourself a Friend.

  • Infernal is awesome for bashing to dragon. Putrefaction, fullplate, free oops death every 6 hours with no loss, unlike Runewarden you can fight decently with Con spec too, can still get runes, frenzy and fury is great for big things, vigour, lowish endurance usage and BW if in trouble.

@Jovolo: Honestly, if you're looking to produce gold at that level, your best bet is questing.  Questing, you can produce dragon levels of gold per hour (40-60k/hour) in places like Mysia, Adryn's Keep, a few islands, etc.  Exploration and devoting time to learning the quests is an initial investment there, but the payout can make it worthwhile.

Simply through hunting, Shecks is actually right about most of that, so I won't bother repeating it.  You're probably going to be looking at around 30k/hour bashing places around your level.
  • Is there any way to comprehend the language of another city?

The help file states it is impossible but I hold out hope there is some method available.

Allies learn it. No other way to do so, however, as it's supposed to be a fairly secretive thing. Even if you've been apart of the city, you instantly and forever forget it if you leave.

  • What is up with the emote SNAN?

I tried looking up WTF a snuke was on urban dictionary but that only made the emote make even less sense.

This of course will not stop me from using it at the next Divine I encounter in game. :)

Yeah, snuke was one of Clementius' old jokes. I don't remember quite why it was so popular, but it originated because it's just a key-space over from smile.

  • Is use of Thoth's fang's by non-subterfuge classes being looked into or slated for revamping? 1.5 second attacks for 800 damage through scales with a venom (which can be supplemented by occie ents) seem a little unbalanced to me.
  • Someone else posted about this recently, but I couldn't find the OP. Mudlet mapper hasn't been working (run time errors galore) and someone noted that it was because a comma was off somewhere in some elusive code somewhere. Any reasonably easy fix for this?

I think the comma issue was just a change to the scry message, and so only affected the trigger to get the room name of the location you scry someone at. Hard to say what else may be going on without some more detail on how it's not working and what errors you're getting. Might be a better question for the Mudlet Q&A thread.
