I apologise for my part in it. It's become a mess of things for varied reasons, and I mostly have to learn to say 'no'. (though I've sure as hell hit it in a panic a couple of times)

In most cases (though not at all) the force brought against us winds up being bigger than we can deal with. I don't mean that just in number (which is usually close to the number we have), but in terms of OOC skill, artefacts, and IC level. This has lead to it has become fairly regular for the groups to rely on and request pit - which while fairly effective, is not the best thing to rely on for varying reasons. Not just its annoyance and no-fun factor, but also in how it really reduces any learning potential on Hashan's side. It has become unfortunate habit. So those of us who can do it need to try and stop this, both in personal using and trying to suggest alternatives when it is asked of us.

At the same time - and this is just for purpose of reference - our defense groups are often somewhat smaller than you'd expect or it would seem. Many in the city want no part in the combat, and others only want to get involved now and again. I know that makes it hard for any opponent to judge, however. Even in spite of that, we'd really have a good chance based off of numbers alone... if only not for the lack of skill/ability. Which'll take a long time to learn, but is a worthwhile goal - and is nobody's fault but our own.

Anyway! Hashan deserves to be humbled to some degree, and it certainly has been in part. There needs to be a realisation amongst the citizens that if the city wants conflict, it has to be prepared for trial by fire, and defeat is a valid part of that. People aren't just going to go super easy on it - while it is a game and intended for fun, no faction is going to just give up a victory for another's sake.

Besides, we should look to Bal'met-era Mhaldor as a recent example. That's the right way of things! Even if they're facing membership issues with the whole 'lack of active divine' thing, they've gone from being uninvolved in most conflict to being active and more potent nowadays, combat-wise. And all with little to no complaint, regardless of how the odds were stacked against them.

I feel like I'm babbling and rambling on by this point, which I pin on recent illness (the most common of excuses!), so I'll silence myself here.
