You bunch your powerful muscles and launch yourself in a majestic leap northwards.
Tesha lashes out at you as you turn to flee.
    Amid the dunes.
Filling the firmament is a lattice of heavy grey clouds. The ground is slick with ice. A prickly
pear cactus is growing here. A cactus weed plant is growing merrily. A sigil in the shape of a small,
rectangular monolith is on the ground. A slope-backed hyena is barking raucously nearby.
You see exits leading east, south, and west.

@Mizik That was a really interesting/helpful post.  Is there a practical difference between orbing ents and killing them?  Also, should knights be trying to kill them like you suggest for monks, or orb them as Tesha did?  Orbing them seemed to work very, very well but certainly provoked a lot of back and forth discussion.  Even reading the back and forth, I'm not qualified to make a judgment on which side was "right" on that account, and I only bring it up to clarify that I'm curious to know which tactic would be more *practical* (not necessarily more sportsmanlike) for a knight and why?

EDIT:  I make a (possibly wrong) assumption that all knights would approach this in the same way, and maybe they do... but maybe there is a real difference in how a Paladin, an Infernal and a Runie should handle it.

There is no practical difference between killing and orbing an ent. I have a tendency of not using things that are broken mechanics I don't think I'll be able to rely on tomorrow (except for Sentinel stun-axe, that - was better than crack). See: Trip block, Voidfist, orb sigils, grove everything (RIP). One by one they'll be balanced.

Knights can take the same approach with the exception of having more varied and creative ways of bypassing parry. Paladins have the luxury of not having to worry about Domination at all, since they passively eliminate it. When I was Paladin, unless I fell for some illusion (even then ily Healing Rite), Occultists weren't even a fight. No way I was dying to just Occultism/Tarot.

Not to jump on your back about this, but I saw it as a bit odd considering your classes and the way you used them. You pretty much always use broken mechanics of a class to your favour and switch when it doesn't work so well for you or you get bored or see another class with more abusability factor

    Full int grook Monk.
    - Tank all day, save up kai while bashing torso. PNB, enfeeble bbt for your win.
    Blademaster (Speaks for itself)
    - Well -, where do I even begin with Blademaster. You know full well Blademaster is broken.
    Speed Nairat runewarden
    - Well, it's basically the strength of a Knight (parry bypass, excellent hindering, time-bomb style mixed with instant crazy damage) but increased to epic proportions.
Sent stun (And post-stun .8s axes)
    - STUN, quad breaks ahead of salve and lock up arms for a time where you can throw in over 10 venoms not including traps if they tumble.
    Pally damage
    - Uh, yeah.

Not raining on your parade, everyone knows you're a decent fighter. You just took the strongest element of the class-to-be at the current time and then switched when the going got tough/you got bored.

You should go like; Unartied Infernal, or Monk, or Jester, or Shaman, or Serpent or Occultist or Sentinel/Druid/Sylvan and give yourself a real challenge. That would be fun to see.
  • I would basically just try to log all the Mizik-serpent fights, because he is apparently brilliant. D:
  • I did not mean any of my comments sarcastically. It really would be interesting to see you in today's achaean combat as those classes I mentioned fighting 1v1. As I said, I know you're a decent fighter and would love to see your attempt at them!

    In fairness:

I've seen Mizik/Spire as Shaman, Infernal and normal Monk and kill people pretty easily.
He was locking people as a monk before it was fashionable and has always been good without arties.

It was sort of a running joke between me and him that if he didnt change class so many bloody times he would rival Ottis for arties.

I would say Spire/Mizik is one of the most creative adaptive combatants that I have ever seen,  possibly the best, the only other one that I can think of on his par would Jarrel.

In saying that I have been out of the loop for awhile.
  • Have you seen Jarrel fight as a Monk? I wouldn't consider him to be one of the most creative and adaptive combatants ever. Far from it. I would agree with placing Spire/Mizik though, sure, made a lot of things popular.
  • Rennyn.

    To all of that.
  • Mizik taught me a lot... if he is not really good, then I would hate to fight someone who is. Although he did lol when I asked how to bypass parry with the curare/kalmia curare/gecko thing when they ate kelp ( >C ) he has always been really helpful to me and taught me about a mana draining strategy which I never would have even thought of (and am now seeking new ways of using it... like against magi with 4842083 mana)

     i'm a rebel

  • Yeah draining mana with focusable venoms and passive mana drain and dazzle and force on top of paladin damage must suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. Did you ever figure out why he lol'd at you with the curare/kalmia curare/gecko thing? (Because lol)
  • yes :( he explained it when he was finished loling.

Have you seen Jarrel fight as a Monk? I wouldn't consider him to be one of the most creative and adaptive combatants ever. Far from it. I would agree with placing Spire/Mizik though, sure, made a lot of things popular.
Yeah seen Jarrel as a monk and died from near full health from an axekick of his, well soulcaged anyway.

Just because that's what he does now doesn't mean its always what he did.  I can remember working with Jarrel lots of times while he worked on different strategies for a few different classes, one thing similar between the both of them was the amount of ideas that they tried to get working and then putting that into practice.  Once they had done that they looked for something else, they were never satisfied with just the one thing.

Rennyn was good as well, but when I use to fight him he was more stock standard, he was just bloody good at the basics, but I most likely never seen the best of him, as I've heard from a few people that he was really good.

Terra was also very good at what she did, more creative, where you compare to someone like Santar who was very good, but just kept to the stock strategies until it actually worked or he caught a break.

One person I learned a lot from was Detho in Kharon, the amount of ideas he had that he use to work on was right up there.

Actually the Kharon was one of if not the best houses I have ever been in, the people there were fantastic to learn from, it was always encouraged to learn and try new strategies.

Fendo, Frith, Zakariyya?, Spire, Detho, Markuth, Namino (I think was there for a while) made it a pretty enjoyable combat house, its a pity to what it turned into for a while, but I'll always remember it fondly.

    Panpardus arrives from the east.

Firey's aura of weapons rebounding disappears.
Firey raises his battleaxe over his head and begins to swing it in a wide
circle, gaining speed as he goes.

Firey ceases the whirling of his weapon over his head.
Firey takes a drink from an oaken vial.

Firey takes a long drag off his pipe.

A Mhojave falcon rips out a chunk of Firey's flesh with its beak.

A striking black falcon flaps into the room.

Panpardus viciously jabs an ornate steel rapier into Firey.

A great weight seems to have been lifted from Panpardus.

Firey grunts a bit and then lets out a loud 'OINK!'

A jet-black falcon dives at Panpardus, raking his face with its talons.

Panpardus takes some salve from a vial and rubs it on his skin.

Firey raises his battleaxe over his head and begins to swing it in a wide
circle, gaining speed as he goes.

Panpardus takes a long drag off his pipe.

The falcon dives at Firey and throws him off balance.

Panpardus takes a drink from an ebony vial.

Lightning-quick, Panpardus jabs Firey with an ornate steel rapier.

The falcon dives at Panpardus and throws him off balance.

A Mhojave falcon rips out a chunk of Firey's flesh with its beak.

Firey begins to bear down on Panpardus with his whirling broadsword.

You suddenly perceive the vague outline of an aura of rebounding around
    Panpardus.

Panpardus takes a drink from an ebony vial.

Screaming out a warcry of pure strength, Firey brings his broadsword crashing
straight down on the head of Panpardus. With unbelievable power, Firey's
broadsword rips through Panpardus's entire body, cleaving it asunder and killing
    him instantly.
Panpardus has been slain by Firey.
You gasp with the realization that Firey has reached the level of Legendary.
A red mallet falls from Panpardus's corpse.
The corpse of a Vertani guard falls from Panpardus's corpse.

Well. A lot of generalization here. I take great pride in making classes the class to be.

I figure the classes out as I play them, and always just change on a whim, not pre plan something to whore. You're right, I do have a natural knack for mechanics and can see abilities at their worst by looking at then on paper. Unless it's monk, which I roll for raid effectiveness, I can only justify going a class that hadn't been fully exploited. It's why I can never go Occultist (plus, have you ever actually looked at AB OCCULTISM? Yuck.)

I'm very impressed by the class by class breakdown. I feel like I'm Eminem and you're Stan (listen to "Stan"). Who knows what I'll be next - stay tuned, I'll be sure not to disappoint.

Edit: Serpent is garbage for me. I can't wrap my head around illusions and system reactions. Would need a dirk.

Btw, Blademaster is the only one on that list I've played artied. Ironically, it's the one that needs them least.

I remember that duel with Firey, it went for ages and when I came back in the room I had lost one of my raps.
I think Genwin? was there as well.

That was when I went runie, which was pre runie upgrades - When did they come in?

No need to be creative and adaptive when scrubs die to random comboes

    Jarrel-smalljpg

  • Dem double breaks + axk so OP. I've got me a blunt chain now though Jarrel. Reduces an axk combo with 200 damage!

  • I spent like 7 minutes being super awesome and slowly prepping Jacen and bypassing guarding and making him reset me when I get too close to prepped.

And then I hit guarding once and he axekicked me from full health and I died. :(

I make an effort not to use guarding in my final kill sequence, but you doing move; force jacen snapkick was so irritating I couldnt help myself.  I even took to spamming restore when you were out of the room so you couldnt force.

To be fair, I dont remember it being just an axk... thought I at least double broke or enfeenled or something
