Just a big rave to @Sarapis, @Tecton, and all the entire teams of behind-the-scene players, Gods, and Admin who work and love towards their respective IRE muds. So much love to all that you do, even when it's unappreciated.
Everyone once in a while I'm reminded about not only how much Achaea has achieved, but how it continues to grow. New faces mingle in with those you wish would go away, but as time passes it continues to progress, expand, and evolve. From big, world-shaping RP events like fighting against Bal'met, to small interactions between a young player asking questions from their new mentor and expressing the joy at discovering an unknown feature or mechanic, I give my heartfull thanks and appreciation.
While I might be an insufferable bloke with a skull thicker than a mountain and prone to bouts of sloth, envy, pride, greed, and all the other sins, I do enjoy the time I spend here and I have no plans on leaving any time soon.
P.S. Last time I thought about going dormant was New Years. Then 20 minutes later @Tecton makes the post about the upcoming year and made me all excited about the future. Still hyped!
You know, that one thing at that one place, with that one person.
I personally do not like this change. I think it detracts from the world.
That and it is ultimately going to ruin the marketplace I think. Before you could go through a lot of work building a client base and building a buying habit in them and they would continue to come to your shop even if you weren't the cheapest around because they weren't "shopping" anymore, they were buying. This was possible because if you were the most consistent person at stocking a certain ware people would develop a habit of always coming to you because they know they can get it there when they don't feel like checking every shop every time they needed a health refill to make sure they're getting the absolute best deal. Consistency and long term service as a shopkeeper and marketing would give you success. Now with no effort at all they can buy the cheapest wares, which means everyone is now going to be cutting their prices to be the cheapest until herbs and minerals are selling for 1g each. Marketing your wares is nearly useless now because everyone will see what you're selling without having to ever go to your shop. With wings I can pop into every city and check the price on something in 20 seconds to ensure I am getting the lowest price, where before this would take a good deal of effort and thus cause someone to develop a relationship with certain shops they know stocks what they need.
Another effect is that out-of-the-way and thus less desirable and cheaper shops will benefit tremendously from this. Shops that people paid high-dollar for because they are located in prime shopping areas are going to take a hit because now their proximity to the popular shopping areas doesn't matter anymore because people can check the prices in every shop (including the out of the way shops) instantly with no effort. It no longer matters that your shop is 10 rooms away instead of 3 because now people will see your wares regardless of where it is and will walk the 7 extra rooms to save gold.
Everyone's prices will plummet to the lowest listed price for curatives and enchantments and then will slowly go down as they undercut each other to the point where it is no longer profitable.
But yeah, I think the big downside to this is that you no longer have to learn where to get your supplies from. You just walk into the city and magically know the prices of everything in the city and where to get them at.
Debbie Downer, I know.
This is great for people who don't own shops and people who don't make their IG money from curatives and such, but it is terrible for shopkeepers (except those who had shitty locations). It makes saving your money while shopping much easier, however and it will definitely make combat and hunting cheaper as curative prices drop.
This. All this. While I love not having to go from shop to shop spamming WARES SIGIL, the price listing is wholly unnecessary. The idea is great, but please remove the prices from the list. Shopping around is also nice in that sometimes when you walk through shops you discover different things on sale. Granted, not as many as before since half the shops still stock off NDS PUBLIC, but I've picked up some unexpected purchases while going from shop to shop.

No, fuck that. My time is valuable. I don't need to waste it by price-checking every damn thing, when it can just be done for me. This illusion of "oh shopping yay" is unnecessary on a mechanical level. If you want to RP going shopping, go for it. The rest of us don't have to endure that. Shopping directories in the other IRE games work just like this (list prices). Don't ruin a good thing.

It's not roleplay, it's economics. Limiting information availability will discourage a market-destroying race to the bottom, in a game that already struggles to implement the resource scarcity necessary to balance out supply and demand.
I'm just glad I can go find a simple white shirt without having to trawl through the twenty other shops selling hot pink mini skirts, cat ear headbands, and 34 inch high heels.

This. It's really not fun to spend an hour searching every shop spamming WARES POTASH or WARES SIGIL until you find what you want, I'm new to Achaea but it strikes me as common good business sense that if you want people to use your shop, especially the conveniently located ones, keep it stocked properly and nothing will change. People will still go with what they know / what's nearby providing things are available.
And really, if you want to make millions, just stock moss and potash! (Kidding, mostly)
I sort of agree. Keep the wares listing, but maybe do away with the price listing. (Though I think it'll have the same effect in the end as people can just dash from one shop selling potash to to the other and compare prices like that instead of going everywhere)
And you won't understand the cause of your grief...
For fun, I added a counter to my script that tracks location requests (via "Where are you?" trigger) and my veil removal script (if string.findPattern(matches[3], "veil") and table.contains(peasant, matches[2])) but for some reason it keeps returning nil

One man's rave is another man's rant.
I like things that make life easier, but I understand the complaints from the shopkeepers!

On the other hand it might make tailoring and jewellery somewhat viable as trade skills. If people can search, they're more likely to shop around for the designs they like instead of giving up and buying something boring or going straight to a tailor for something from NDS.

I'm pretty sure this is some kind of joke that I just don't understand behind all the code-talk.
Yeah, if only that sold a sense only artie(hint hint @gods).
No reduction. I did the math, though, and I'm missing 1100 credits in skills, not counting minis or avoidance (can't check), and not counting other negative effects that negate arties.
Wonder if it would be worth doing a level one veil for sense, level two for hide - or a selection between hide/sense and upgrade for both.
They won't delete it for obvious reasons. Halving the cost for half the feature would be a nice step in keeping it useful while also keeping it fairly acceptable price-wise.
Penwize has cowardly forfeited the challenge to mortal combat issued by Atalkez.
Halving the effects devalue them though. Price is a large reason why veil is actually still useful. More people being able to breach it, while good, reduces the value. Would rather just see it removed, but neither is going to happen(please, someone make me eat these words)
Not really, no more than 30 new people buying them ala buckawns.. Most veil purchases are for either hiding or locating. Rarely does someone actually want both effects, at least from what I've read by more than enough people on forums and conversation etc.
I spend money on IRE, but I'm not willing to spend that much for that item.
I would spend 1000c to just be able to sense people, though.

I absolutely bought my veil for both purposes, so at least one person did. I wanted to see and not be seen.
I've had a really shitty... Year? Like ... Year and a half? Work and friend issues... Family is amazing and my close friends get me through.. but sometimes work and the other shit gets me down. Anyways Achaea means a lot to me and i really enjoy my time here. Kudos to everyone.
@Aodfionn , @Aurora , @DeucalionYou are all totally awesome. I am totally excited to continue moving things in the direction that they are flowing now within the Harbingers.

WHEN I get a veil, I'll be getting mine for locating and hiding. That's what a veiled serpent is used for.
Had such a great time running around in new places, and then learning about the horrificly violent good 'ol days with @Edena! Thanks for the adventure!
A big rave for my house and Whoever made that happen...
@Utianima asked on HNT where the ouroboros in the househall is. @Merewyn, @Grondson, @Miriew and try to give directions. Utianima claims the directions are not correct. I check if they are in our scrolls and point him to it. Merewyn objects that the directions are slightly wrong in the scroll, and I go:
Oceana says, "They are? I can fix that!"
Oceana says, "Hold onto your hats."
Utianima says, "Holding onto my hat..."
@Shirszae sceptically says, "I don't have a hat. Should I get one?"
Oceana says, "Imaginary hats count."
Merewyn says, "Hehe, good, that's what I have."
I go to edit the scroll and go:
Oceana says, "Fixed!"
Merewyn happily says, "Thank you."
Utianima says, "Thanks!"
Hundreds of hats can be seen sailing above the treetops of the Rowan, waiting to be held.
Merewyn says, "That was awesome."
Utianima says, "Thank you for the warning, Oceana. I am sure my hat would have blown up if it wasn't for the fact that I held onto it."

The post about Targs defectors had me laughing.
