Targossans wouldn't even answer Phaestus on UUC when asked when the ball thing was, so I don't know how anyone was supposed to know when not to come and play.
I have many raves though, pretty much everyone who has stepped up to make this last two weeks really incredible. It's great to see people excited and doing things, and then having ideas to do more after. I'd list everyone, but I know I'd forget people, so you know who you are, I'm just going to leave it at this.
The sweltering heat of the forge spills out across the land as the rumbling voice of Phaestus booms, "I want you to know, the Garden reaction to that one is: What?" The voice of Melantha, Goddess of the Seasons, echoes amid the rustle of leaves, "That's the censored version."
Not to mention Targ raided us for 3-4 hours just yesterday... it was past the point of ridiculous when they finally went home. If you want people to be reasonable... you should really try it yourself. At least y'know, a few days before you demand it.
And yes, we had absolutely no idea about your ball... so a bit presumptuous to decide we were purposely trying to disrupt it.
While I certainly wouldn't have gone out of my way to interrupt any event, after that stupidly long raid yesterday, I probably would have ignored requests to stop if I had been the one defiling.
I honestly thought the admin purposely did not put Sartan's costume in the costume shop, because they might be afraid he'll burn it down. Seems like they forgot to create new costumes for new Gods!
Sartan's costume: As you don the horrific visage of a Sartan costume, the illusion of the red fog surrounds your body for a brief moment before fading. Your very blood boils with pure unadulterated evil before a sudden cool calm overtakes you.
I'm sorry, @Sartan, but that last line makes me picture you as the Old Spice Guy advertising for Powerthirst. :-\"
"Mummy, I'm hungry, but there's no one to eat! :C"
Found a gif recorder, recording some combat to show friends who don't know about MUDs, and getting an awesome crit within seconds of starting to record.
Commissions- Base pay is 15cr/hour of work. See THIS for commission FAQ.
The current commission queue is 5. Estimated delay in new commissions is > one week.
There is currently a freeze on commissions. No new requests are being taken at this time, and current pieces are delayed. See sketchbook thread for details.
Yesterday's raid was pretty balanced numbers-wise, and people kept fighting/engaging instead of ignoring us, so I assumed they were interested in continuing.
But I don't think that's relevant since we're talking about raids/defiling during player-planned events here, and that's clearly a different situation. During the past few Mhaldorian events (that huge gala thing springs to mind most immediately) we left Mhaldor alone. It would be nice to return the courtesy.
edit:
There was a massive group of us all located at the ballroom, so I guess most people just assumed other people noticed. It's fair enough that you didn't notice, and the people who did it did stop when I dropped them a message, so thank you for that.
Rave: Elder Dragon movement messages got added in without me noticing!
I wonder if they'll ever implement "(male/female) Elder Dragon" instead of "(male/female) <Colour> Dragon" for Elder Dragons. Then again, might give more dragons an incentive to hunt and further destroy talisman dropping areas.
I stayed away from forums for a month, but this merited a brief return.
@Deucalion, @Aurora, @Phaestus and everyone who came to attend the ball. I never tried to do something like that before, and the resulting craziness was a lot of fun. The drink display was really amazing, and I love how the description changed as it got closer and closer to empty. Love the random (colored!) emotes of the streamers, such a great touch.
Phaestus was so epic about approving designs and fixing designs for me. The auto syntax was a commemorative ribbon celebrating light (rather than Light), and I panicked and messaged him, and when the designs were approved, they were all Light/Righteousness/Bloodsworn rather than uncapitalized and heretical. (I have no idea when you asked when the ball was on UUC, but I must not have been online. Sorry if nobody answered!)
Always many hearts for Deucalion and Aurora for supporting stuff like this. It has truly been a pleasure working with them and I love being able to rely on them, at least one part of the huge craziness that I know will not go wrong. And if it does, they will fix it and zap Kard for screwing up. :x
Loved seeing all the dancing and the excitement with the drinking games (where you start out drunk - whatever! Semantics.) Atalkez helping with security and freaking out when @Sothantos just walked right by him was so adorable, and Antidas was so hardcore about security. Many hearts.
Melodie made the ribbon raffle happen, but please shoot me if I ever think it would be a good idea to use a tophat again. 75 item limit + people buying 170 freaking tickets = WHAT! Then like 5 minutes later someone else decides to buy 50. One part of me says ooh gold, other (louder) part of me says GOD DAMN IT.
Silas letting me borrow his illusion artifact (good luck trying to find a way to say that is inappropriate) was a godsend. No worries about character limit, just illusion after illusion after illusion. I am not sure how many people liked that part, but at least everyone shushed up for it, so they either afked or enjoyed it.
Halos helping me figure out how to plan things (I shamelessly copied his journal even though I did not quite follow up on the method) was really helpful especially during the first few days when I had so much to do. :x :x
Really hope everyone enjoyed themselves, because that is the part that makes it worth the hours of effort and stress it takes to pull something like that off. The turnout was huge, people seemed like they were enjoying themselves, and there were not really any awkward silences.
Thanks for being epic, Targossas (and everyone who came).

The ball was a blast. So many things happened. Someone trying to do something when everyone else kept walking into the room and embarrassing poor @Lachlan when she walked in at just the wrong time.
Sounds like it was a good turn out. I remember the Inquisitis Galus(or something like that) for Mhaldor a while back, which was a lot of fun. Every city should have something like this every once in a while, as it's a great thing for citizens to experience and a good chance to raise funds. Mhaldor cut corners by not paying servers, just ordering idling Slaves to take up a tray. One poor lad kept walking in to offer drinks quite audibly in the middle of Kaevan's speech. Thought he was going to get brained with the serving tray. Apparently so did he, because he blushed and scurried off.
@Sothantos it's Mhaldor, and you were inside our city. Of course we kept fighting. You give up and stop and we'll just get sent en masse to the Red Square anyway. We were sitting there cursing you lot ooc by the end of it wondering why the hell you were still there. Even with even numbers a raid is bloody boring after an hour or so, unless you're one of those PK addicts.
Yes, an event is lovely, and interrupting them isn't a nice idea, but you really shouldn't have raided us for 3-4 hours the day before, it's bound to piss people off, and make them feel in general not overly nice. As it was, yes people stopped when asked, but I wouldn't have blamed them if they were there having to defend that whole time and they had refused. If you want to justify the raid by saying 'we could have stopped defending', well you could have ignored the defiling...
We sure as hell wouldn't have started a huge raid the day before the gala, because that's just ASKING for trouble.
I like fighting. When Ashtan raids and we have similar numbers, it used to be that occasionally, engagements could go on for a really long time without cooling down, and even after a few hours we would still be up for defending and fighting. To me, it appeared to be one of those times, since throughout the whole thing, people made themselves available to fight.
Long engagements aren't necessarily one-sided, and we got wiped a few times, so I honestly don't understand what the fuss is about. I didn't read last night's raid as particularly griefy, and no one dropped me any messages and your group didn't hole up to hide anywhere, so it was fairly reasonable for me to assume that it was fine to keep going. I enjoy PK. Lots of other people do. We wanted to get rooms. We kept going because there was continuously active resistance, so we got rooms, and we left early instead of getting all five when it looked like you guys didn't have as many people anymore.

I don't see the problem.
The problem is, not everyone enjoys pk as much as you. If you only think about yourself when raiding, people are going to think only of themselves when they set up to ruin your event. There, summed it up all nicely for you.
And you won't understand the cause of your grief...
There are a few ways to indicate that you're no longer interested in fighting. Continuously coming out to engage isn't one of them.
The thing is, there's bound to be some people pissed off during any raid or skirmish during normal times. That's just the nature of PK, and it's unavoidable. People will be upset at you for raiding for various reasons. To me, that was a fairly normal raid. We took 3 rooms, we were facing a active defence force that was pretty much equal to ours for most of the duration of the skirmish/raid, we accomplished objectives and left early when the opposition clearly was no longer willing/had left. I don't even know what you're demanding at this point. To equate raiding normally to interrupting an event is pretty silly, and no, I wouldn't interrupt a Mhaldorian gala if you'd raided the day before it.
Sothantos isn't a mountain troll. Just send him a message and he'll back off.
So many people don't want to be the one who opens the door of communication. I've experienced it myself. People will bitch and moan, they will come to the forums to bitch and moan, but almost nobody approaches anyone else to resolve things.
The majority of raiders are all decent folk. Every single one of them. If you're at a disadvantage, raids go too long, people are leaving etc just tell them. If they are raiding just to do something and generate conflict, they will back off and leave most of the time. They want to encorage people to get involved and not the opposite.
I am sad I missed the ball too, not that I would have gotten to attend. It sounds like a really fun event and I hope some logs get posted in a couple days for those of us that wished we were there. Major raves to the people who put in the time to organise such things because I know it's a lot of work.
(D.M.A.): Cooper says, "Kyrra is either the most innocent person in the world, or the girl who uses the most innuendo seemingly unintentionally but really on purpose."
Have no idea what happened in the raid, but personally, I would be very upset if Mhaldor had raided Targ a RL day before the event and Targ decided to retaliate by gatecrashing an event that had taken RL months of effort and work to set up. Raids are raids. Griefy or not, they happen all the time and they're rarely ever 'even' - this isn't something new.
Events like these - player run events like these, on the other hand, happen almost never - the Iniquitous Gala (ahem, @Kresslack) was the first ever in the history of Mhaldor - and using something as petty as 'omg you raided yesterday' as justification is pretty silly, honestly. I mean, sure, you can justify it ICly if you want to but there's a point where as players, you can back off a bit and give other people a chance to enjoy the hard work they put in for their faction. People severely underestimate the sheer amount of work that goes into pulling off something like this and to have all that disrupted by a moment of petty vengeance is incredibly disappointing to say the least.
That being said, I don't think people really meant to disrupt the event and I'm glad to hear people on our side backed off when asked to. I appreciate the fact that Targ stayed away for our own Gala. It also sounds like you had a lot of fun, so congratulations on a good job, a fun time, and I'm sure the organisers have all earned their rest!

I honestly had no idea it was going on. I was leading a group hunt as part of a requirement, and towards the end of it got the order to use the corpses to defile, so we did. Didn't know about the event until I read about it on the forums.
@xer,@ruth,@saibel,@yang,@alrena,@mephaos - Great skirmish the other day! I love it when we can just smash together and fight eachother without starting raids or defiling. Good to keep it civil on OOC channels so that we know if both sides are interested in more fighting as well.

Having 'kill troll' in it probably doesn't help to show how unique combat is, though.
@Jurixe there is a difference between 'raiding', and 'raiding for 4 hours in a row'. One is fine, the other is just tedious. And I wasn't saying anyone should -try- to disrupt their event, just that I can see why people wouldn't be jumping over themselves to be nice after that.
Right, moving along and getting back on track, I got to spend about two-three hours sailing tonight, having been denied that particular pasttime due to focusing on requirements. It ended, most comically so, with an argument between a few of us saltdogs over what the constellations looked like that night. Is that a wolf, or a prancing dog? A serpent, or a tadpole? An eight pointed star, or a puckered.....well, nevermind. Point is, was a lot of fun and good to be back on the seas again, even if I almost got into a fisticuffs match with a jack-o-lantern because I didn't like the way it was looking at me.

Remind me to never, EVER volunteer for random tailoring jobs for you, @Tesha. That was utter insanity. Even despite my pleading, she absolutely refused to do anything other than -make and embroider around 325 ribbons-. :P
Had a good bit of fun, though. I've been leery of social gatherings ever since Mel got older, as finding a "date" is awkward, and dancing even moreso. Still, had a great time getting Mel drunk for the first time in 50ish years, and @Draqoom was quite the gentleman (once he showed up!) It was also fun to give @Daeir a hard time afterwards.
Glad I went, even if it resulted in two hours of sleep. :P
