Sometimes I find that the most evocative words are actually the simplest words. 'Black', for instance, immediately conveys the colour in my head, while 'inky' or 'stygian' or 'atramentous' don't give that same kind of instant reaction simply because my brain has to first comprehend the word, decipher the meaning, and then link it to the colour. It's the reason I've sometimes decided to opt for simple 'red' or 'green' and so on, just because I want people to immediately get a picture of what something should appear like without having to think too hard about it.
Maybe I'm weird though, and this is off topic so:
Singapore Ironcon (let's face it, it's really Mhaldorcon) soon!

Most of my design work leans heavily towards shorter and simpler. I definitely prefer it.
The sweltering heat of the forge spills out across the land as the rumbling voice of Phaestus booms, "I want you to know, the Garden reaction to that one is: What?" The voice of Melantha, Goddess of the Seasons, echoes amid the rustle of leaves, "That's the censored version."
A great rave for the Lotus' Battle Royale, along with for @Scarlatti / @Ourania / whoever else assisted with making the event be what it was. I wasn't expecting something so fun for spectators, it was a lovely surprise! Good show from the participants!
I am grateful for the group of people around me lately who are both really dedicated when they need to be but still know how to relax, chill, and take it easy. It's been really nice. Also for the consistently fun roleplay that reminds me what Achaea really is - a big, interactive storybook with a story that you should enjoy, and I have been - I don't get as worked up about the tiniest things that I used to, which is a big improvement.

I know I've been raving a lot lately, but today was too good not to rave about!
Started off the day with cheering up @Daeir and causing trouble with @Sothantos via Solii. Always a fun, ridiculous experience.
After that, me finally going through with a promise I made to myself: If I ever managed to get Devotion back, I was going to learn priest combat properly. Got set up with some good scripting help (and boyfriend promises to help me expand them!), as well as got a lot of information from @Ruca, and several good spars out of @Lilian to help me fine-tune things. Look out, I'm starting to get into combat!
Then I prepped for a public ritual I had visited several cities to talk about for the past few days (plus a formal letter! always fun to write those). Besides a few typos and Hashan suddenly having their Battle Royale at the same exact time (bah at you, @Eld!), it went really well. Had a lot of questions and interest, and I'm happy to start doing more of these again in the near future.
-Then- a THREE HOUR practice KOTH that I got -lots- of good practice in (because CTF is srs business in Cyrene), including getting to fight along with the famous @Tynil! Plan to pick his brain a ton while I can for tips and tricks. He also said I did a really good job during the practice. Squee.
I was then invited out to a riddles game @Sothantos was hosting, which I did -horrible- in, but I had a lot of fun trying, chatting with citizens, and discussing the finer points of running events and their complicated web of madness.
Ended the day off with Scarlatti teasing me on CT about having some traces of bard left in me (well, Mel), and of course ensuing musical puns from there. Just fun, friendly attention from a lovely Divine.
I haven't been able to sit and chill at all today, and I am stupidly exhausted, but very happy. Days like this are exactly what makes Achaea a wonderfully unique and exciting experience.
Thank you, all, for just being great and keeping me engaged. People ask me how I was able to stand six months of a crippled character, and these kinds of days is one big reason why.
And I love too Be still, my indelible friend That love soon might end You are unbreaking And be known in its aching Though quaking Shown in this shaking Though crazy Lately of my wasteland, baby That's just wasteland, baby
Yup, Melodie's cousin Katia dropped in, plus a few others. I was very surprised to have -any- Mhaldorians, since visiting the city is just a no. Lot of folks did, much more mixed than I was expecting, which was lovely.
And I love too Be still, my indelible friend That love soon might end You are unbreaking And be known in its aching Though quaking Shown in this shaking Though crazy Lately of my wasteland, baby That's just wasteland, baby
@Iakimen: actually coming back to fight in Annwyn, after I failed to jump like the noob I am, and then duelling once more later. Good fun, Ashuran Icon didn't help much against you.
I had Svo paused and I was doing something on my other monitor, not really paying attention to Achaea. I looked back with enough time to run at 4% health and then lagged just long enough after unpausing to bleed out in 1 tick.
Also, I was just sitting at Silverbright Square. I wasn't helping Hashan or anything.
I am retired and log into the forums maybe once every 2 months. It was a good 20 years, live your best lives, friends.
You guys have been great to raid and defend with. I've been learning so much especially all the time that @Sothantos has put with me in the arena. He handed me my behind earlier today but I did learn something. Don't do stupid things. I'm glad I came back after a long vacation and playing with these people has made it so that I enjoy my time here.
@Halos The description you wrote up for my cassock fits in so well with the clothing you and Sothantos wear, I'll be happy when it's finally finished and I can wear it.
@Aurora, @Deucalion, @Gaia, @Phaestus, and all the other gardeny people who helped with the Festival of the Dawn. (I hope I got that right! I might be reading into Deucalion commenting about Gaia during the opening ceremony).
I can never be certain who handles Maeris, a few hints seem to point to @Aurora, I hope that is correct! I am so unbelievably amazed that the arena was able to be finished in time, opening just before the festival started. The little interactions with Maeris and in person were amazing - everything from Berunis' poem about Achilles to the sweet little girl (who somehow still has two hands, @Silas must not have seen her), the little streamers, the bonfire, the gambling barge... everything. I cannot express how grateful I am for your saintly amounts of patience and understanding; I had no idea what working with you behind the scenes would be like, but you completely surpassed all expectations. Everything from response times to being willing to go with ideas and helping out in any way you can, you are amazing, and I adore you.
@Deucalion, I am blown away by the medallion. I had so much trouble with coming up with the perfect idea for it, and once I had it, I could not take it past the idea. I am usually good at designing, but I wanted this to be perfect, and I get really nervous with trying to make something perfect. The medallion is absolutely perfect. The sign is amazing (and I love the fact that Silas cannot change it) and I can only guess at how complicated that was to make. You were really great with keeping me stocked with giftbags and being so patient. The boar turned out ridiculously great, I had no idea there would be two different kinds, so amazed. I was a little nervous going into this, but you were phenomenal to work with.
I am so grateful for both of you and I hope neither of you ever leave ever. You were so supportive and helpful every step of the way, and I cannot express how thankful I am for you. I really look forward to where things will lead from here, I have some ideas I am really excited about bringing to life. You two rock.
@Targossas@Melodie, @Yae, @waytoomanyothers, thank you all for coming to the assorted games. I had so much fun with the letter mixups, cabal, quizzes, the joust, everything. It was all so fun to watch, host, and participate in once we got to that stage. Planning was a nightmare, but I really hope everyone enjoyed everything. The open squares could be my favorite, but the ceremonies were a lot of fun, too. I laughed so much making the mixups, and the relay was a lot of fun to set up, too. We will have to do that another time!
@Aldair, @Bahtell, @Halos, @Havyn, your sermons were amazing. I am literally in awe at how great they turned out. You all did so well, each of you were great about being there when you said you were going to (I have no idea what I would have done if something came up), and everything went so smoothly.
I only had a week or so to prep the festival pretty much from scratch, and @Silas, @Halos, @Sothantos (still want to pk you a little bit) helped so much. All the food @Halos made at the last minute, the ribbons, the way you turned a crappy brooch design I made into a masterpiece - you are the best. Thank you thank you thank you. I think I sent about 900 assorted messages to @Silas and @Sothantos about the festival over the last few weeks, and neither of them ever got upset about my billion questions and thoughts.
I hope everyone enjoyed the festival. I learned a lot about what worked, what did not work, how to handle conflicting opinions, how to handle stress better (sorry @Havyn, I love you!) and I got better at making things up on the spot. I look forward to the next one.
Welcome to the Crazy Circle of Culture. Glad everything went so well, was very happy to attend and be able to not only compare and contrast ideas, but simply have a good time. I think Cabal was my favorite, everyone worked so hard, and I had a great time interacting with everyone - even @Silas and @Sothantos!
The festival also ended up helping prompt getting Devotion back, which was really surprising, exciting, and terrifying. @Sothantos - for the love of Deucalion, please plan out your event -beforehand- next time! :P Not that I'm complaining, it was fun bouncing ideas back and forth with you.
@Tesha, I'm sorry, but I am never, ever, ever doing an open square event again. Ever. Seriously. (Mel kind of threw her harp into Lake Muurn, anyway)
Enjoy your rest from the crazy!
