Frankly whenever an event becomes heavily PK orientated in the capacity it currently is, a lot of the playerbase will just opt out. This isnt a teams war concept such as Underworld wherein one can progress through several aspects. This has basically become a mass slaughter with, unshockingly, the very few players that have it down to an art, easily taking advantage of it.

I am not seeing a war here, I am seeing dive-bombs by players, with Crucibles flying around, bright multicolored light causing fireworks, Deuc radiances setting people alight like a burning-man concert, and monks standing in the corner snickering as they radiance. Wot is this..
Should have seen the first two days or so. Was almost literally Mad Max: Achaea Road.
    - (Eleusis): Ellodin says, "The Fissure of Echoes is Sarathai's happy place."
    - With sharp, crackling tones, Kyrra tells you, "The ladies must love you immensely."
    - (Eleusian Ranger Techs): Savira says, "Most of the hard stuff seem to have this built in code like: If adventurer_hitting_me = "Sarathai" then send("terminate and selfdestruct")."
    - Makarios says, "Serve well and perish."
    - Xaden says, "Xaden confirmed scrub 2017."

I think what turns me off is the intensity x the time of the event. It's one thing to sustain OMG END OF THE WORLD level panic and intense focus over a short period of time, or on and off for ups and downs over a period (with indications of progress perhaps, like the plague event), but it's been 24/7 shard gathering or fighting back the tide with no letting up for well over an IC year, with very little indication that our efforts are at all useful or meaningful. Unless you live for PK (and even then IDK) it just seems like a recipe for burnout. I am looking forward to what comes, but I'm super impatient and I'd feel better (and be more inclined to involve myself) if I felt like the shards and Tide fighting were having an impact.
  • The biggest problem with being an avatar is not that they can be radianced. The biggest problem is that avoiding conflict through purposefully dying to guards or other denizens is rewarded. On the rare occasion that I am not slain for moving towards a shardfall area, and have the luck to be able to subvert essence before a group of 4+ is on me, I would be safer running to an enemy city than my own. That's not an incentive for participating, and it's not an incentive for trying to play it fair.
  • This beetle... has something against me.

They'll drop on down normally after several hits, but seems like they're spawning at 110-120% hp.

  • I don't like this phase. I think it's really awesome, and the feeling of overwhelming, invasive peril is spectacular.

But I want to spend my Sunday bashing for xps. I feel guilty doing that while everyone else is, you know, saving the world and shit.

It'd help if the Tide monsters gave any worthwhile XP; they don't, alas, despite their high health and damage.

I don't mind that, though. You're not fighting them for xp. The reward is the "saving the world" high.

I don't want to seem unappreciative! This phase is really well done, and the admin have been so good to us. I just don't want to take part in this particular part of the event, and have a hard time reconciling my guilt about doing other things instead.
  • I just wish the gold cap was deleted for tide mobs. I don't want to save the world for 50gp drops
  • To clarify:

Subject: A quick black tide change
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
We've just made a quick change to the black tide. To compensate for their
difficulty and the time it takes to kill many of them, mobs spawned in the tide
now provide a more significant amount of experience to the killer compared to
    standard mobs.

  • Speak for yourself, dude. I've made like 400k over the past 2-3 days.
  • JonathinJonathin Retired in a hole.
Yeah, speak for yourself. I don't even have to pay attention unless some knobhead comes in and spawns stuff on me.
I am retired and log into the forums maybe once every 2 months. It was a good 20 years, live your best lives, friends.
  • AhmetAhmet Wherever I wanna be
I have to run in/out in avatar form with azelhurium and runes.
    Huh. Neat.

Ya know what? FUCK THIS. I'm done. I'm fine with having to fight people for splinters. I'm perfectly ok with that. I'm fine with having to fight the creatures from the vapour. But to have people that just come in while you're trying to get essence and spawn more creatures on you already is making me not even wanna participate anymore. I have no problem with dying, but when it's literally no chance because of that crap, that's a line for me.

Edit: And since I already know I'm gonna get told "It's an event. Shit happens." I have treated everything in this event with that attitude. I have worked with others, lead my own small group calmly, and generally had good interaction with the other people in the event. But this just makes me feel like I don't even wanna log in. It's too much.

Yep. Mhaldor has pretty much given up due to the griefing done by the coalition. Earlier I had four people flying above me wherever I went trying to collect splinters. I went through some of my logs since Mhaldor left the coalition. I've died just under 100 times when I wasn't subverting, an avatar, attacking, or defending anyone. It's not possible to count the number of times I was attacked and survived, but it would easily be double that number. I don't mind being attacked in splinter areas so much, but so, so many of the attacks have been outside of splinters or avatar battles.

While I was trying to fight the Tide earlier, I had several people just follow me around phased to spawn creatures on me.

Kind of at my wits end with this, and so is a lot of Mhaldor.

  • But I thought the Nihilists and Mhaldor were the griefers by ruining the chance for everyone to work together.

Did the forums lie to me?

Yeah. It's on both sides and frustrating for a lot of people. It's 100% a dick move. I've pretty much pulled myself out of the fighting aspect because I don't want to be involved in steam rolling people like that, but pretty sure you already knew that.
  • AhmetAhmet Wherever I wanna be
@Makarios Please stop spawning being affected by players who are flying, in trees, souls, phased, astraled.

@Makarios Please make it so you have to be on the ground to subvert.

@Makarios Please deliver us from this hell.
    Huh. Neat.
  • The trolling dial on this event by the admins is being cranked to 11. People have to fly around to try to navigate the Tide-swallowed areas on shardfall...the more people in a room for about 5 seconds, the more creatures spawn (eventually becoming instant deathtrap rooms, especially if someone like Seragorn is there). At that point all you need to do is knock down someone who is flying and they're dead. But it still takes like 30s to subvert. LOL gg
  • ShirszaeShirszae Santo Domingo
I don't see the problem with being able to subvert while flying. If you don't like it just knock people down to the ground, where as @Florentino said, they will promptly die.

And you won't understand the cause of your grief...

...But you'll always follow the voices beneath.

Its a shame non-dragons can't participate in these shardfalls anymore.
    Huh. Neat.
