@Nikodemus: the point isn't if violence is considered a joke in Achaea, whether our characters take it seriously, or whether playing a game containing violence makes us violent. The point is that the topic of violence is used as a vehicle for casual entertainment. In that effect, I consider it quite comparable to joking about it.
I'm most definitely not trying to tell anyone to "suck it up". Rather, I was trying to point out that, to a smaller or greater degree, most or all of us are guilty of trivializing deeply serious topics for the sake of our personal enjoyment from time to time.
The mods haven't been doing much lately. Things that would have resulted in a month long ban 1-2 months ago don't even get edited now. I've been reporting posts like crazy and nothing ever gets modded.

I got one flag on a post of mine and it got removed yesterday
Good point but there's still a huge difference in context though. Violence in Achaea as a whole is targetless and ultimately targets everyone equally. Thus it's sort of the norm, a norm we all understand is not the norm in real life.
Domestic violence on the other hand is a very unequal phenomenon where the victim (More often than not women) are targetted and whose lives are actually put in the line, either taken away from them or severely screwed up. Making a reference to violence in the context of the game does not affect ideas we have irl because that violence is a medium everyone chooses to participate in (Or, at least, everyone agrees to enter the medium in which violence is a norm).
That is not the case in real life and thus you're being disrespectful and encouraging harmful ideas by joking about violence against women.
Aurora says, "Tharvis, why are you always breaking things?!" Artemis says, "You are so high maintenance, Tharvis, gosh." Tecton says, "It's still your fault, Tharvis."

@Tharvis then stroke it, it will provide you with comfort.
stroked the beard, beard is now content.

@Nikodemus I understand your point, and in RL I have some cases where domestic violence is involved. It simply was not a super smart joke by @Sarapis. It is pretty obvious, but I laughed. No one is always at 100% of his/her humor gauge.
Indeed, such matters can easily hurt the sensibility of others, but I think we all are intelligent enough to understand the underlying non harmful intent the joke to begin with.
@Iocun is right all the way. I can add also a point. Achaea may get so violent and macabre that I would not be surprised if someone form Mid-West will claim that gaming leads to violence in RL. (The reference to MW is done on purpose, if you are RL from MW you may get offended or, if you are not, you may laugh). Do you see how it triggers?
DISCLAIMER: I am a lawyer and, therefore, I am not good at making jokes.
Chill out, people. Initiated violence of all kinds, whether it's dropping bombs on civilians in war, harming your significant other, carjacking someone, etc is all bad.
Doesn't mean you can't joke about violence or other things that offend people though! If we removed that which may offend someone from the realm of comedy, we'd have precious little to joke about.
Of course, I also didn't mean to offend my players, and I've just donated $50 to the Domestic Violence Hotline by way of a general apology.
@Daslin Same. There's basically nothing I consider too serious to joke about. Maybe nothing at all. My brother died from a gunshot wound in a hunting accident, but I love me some Dick Cheney hunting buddy jokes. Ebola's killed thousands of people in a short amount of time, but I find jokes like the "Sexy Ebola Nurse" costume amusing.
Still, I'm not here on the Achaea forums to offend my players/customers, and that's why I apologized. In general, we should all stay away from jokes/topics on these forums that might end up referencing political/societal hot button issues simply because this just isn't the place for it.
No Rakon, you got forum banned for consistently acting like a jerk, up to and including screaming obscenities at me in messages. You're lucky I'm fairly tolerant or the latter alone would just result in a perma-ban from all IRE services.
Edit: And now you're perma-banned from the forums.

A point on which we all agree: don't beat yourself up over it

Am with Sarapis on this. I say this as a child of abuse. Mental, physical, sexual. Jokes are how I -still- cope.
This is me, exactly. Some people want to be so serious, and that is fine if it works for them, but if I didn't joke about what happened to me, I would probably have killed myself.
