I came off a motorbike onto a dirt gravel road and scraped my knee enough it was bleeding, and my jeans barely got scratched.

What are you people doing to your jeans?
Funny the other day I was riding my motorcycle and had a lowside crash, i small fracture on my left hand, scrapped up my right arm pretty decently and my shirt was fine but my jeans barely had a scratch in them.

edit: Also minor damaged to the bike, brake lever, and the brake fluid reservoir  had some nice wear marks but everything else was fine.

How is 5e? My group's been meaning to play it but we haven't quite had the chance to sit down and do so yet.

That said, I wish I had the money to get the books if for no other reason than the art. I've seen my friend's copy and the art looks gorgeous.
We've honestly only been able to play it a few times, but we've mostly just been impressed with the changes to combat. Powers are essentially gone, and it feels more organic and roleplay-driven, while still being tactical. Instead of having to rifle through hundreds of papers to decide what to do with minor/major actions and whatnot to do things that can make a long combat encounter really stilted and sometimes repetitive you can create more flavorful ways to do away with monsters.

I know there are many DnD players that aren't impressed. We've all played since 3.5, but our background is mostly 4e- and we love 5e so far!

Yeah, they're pretty cute- when they're not being obnoxious farts. <3

I'll let them know you think so. :D

what're you going to say? "Some person I met on the internet says you're all good-looking" ?
Aurora says, "Tharvis, why are you always breaking things?!"
Artemis says, "You are so high maintenance, Tharvis, gosh."
Tecton says, "It's still your fault, Tharvis."

  • ah, Tillie, I'm jealous! 5e looks pretty awesome. I just don't have anyone to play with. :(

  • Cidusii and I recently played a quicky one night campaign at my sister's house with a few friends (and a really great DM) using 5e. It was -really- excellent for throwing something together fast and pretty. So, I don't know what the potential is with long term playing, but as far as quick and easy build and play, it was really tremendous.

How about, we aknowledge there was an issue, those who screwed up apologize, and we move on because it's not about getting offended, it's about aknowledging certain harmful things that happen in our society such as making jokes of issues that affect large groups of people unfairly.

It's easy to dismiss "political/societal fueled stuff" when you're not part of those groups.

To be fair, we all play a game that portrays violence in a very easygoing fashion and it's the "violence" part that's the issue with domestic violence, not the "domestic" part.

If domestic violence is to be a taboo topic, so should all other forms of violence be.

Mhm, cuz stabbing someone in-game and actually beating someone up irl is totally comparable. Fucking up someone's life is shitty sure, but seriously having to wait those 60 seconds for Toth to bring you back is such a pain too am I right.

There's a difference between a topic not being able to be discussed and a topic being serious and thus not worthy of jokes that dehumanize people.

No one is saying talking about domestic violence is bad, but joking about an issue that gets people killed and ruins a number of other lives in the process is not something that should be left untouched.

I'm not quite sure you got my point...

@Iocun Your point being that violence in the game is somehow the same as joking about other types of violence. Here's the difference: The game has a context in which everyone understands it is fiction (The game/player contract if you will) and wether violence in videogames encourages violence irl or not is arguable. In the context of the game itself though violence is seen as an act of cruelness and as normal as it is, it is not treated as something to laugh at (Unless a character finds enjoyment in killing, for example, which again draws a line where we know the player would know enjoy murdering people in real life, or at least understands there's consequences to this and thus doesn't.)

Meanwhile, joking about domestic violence specifically only normalizes and makes a joke out of the suffering of millions of women, drawing importance from it. The same reason why rape jokes are not proper, the chances of a victim listening are extremely high, and even worse, the chances of a perpetrator listening are even h@‌

By "Not making a big deal" out of it you're not only practically telling the victims to "suck it up"  but you're also supporting the perpetrators and possibly giving other people the idea that it's something to joke about and thus ok.
