2 years ago a good friend of mine, who I've known since we were 11, moved out to Thousand Oaks as part of a promotion with his work. I thankfully woke up this morning to a message to say he and the family were safe. Also a rave to say I'll be in Vegas for work in January and will take some time off before hand to go down and spend a few days with him.

We are having a pirate party at work and I was able to find the most atrocious skirt in an op-shop that I'm altering to be the most fantastic pirate queen skirt. I am so excited that this will only cost me $6 to make.
Delved back into craft stuff again and not exactly by choice. I think I just reached that level of needing to do something that is both engaging and relaxing, and that appears to be diamond embroidery.
I like that I’ll have something pretty to frame when I am done.

TL;DR So I had this whole long rant I was going to post just to vent yesterday, and before I had the chance I realized how amazing my family and my life really is.
For some background so that this makes sense, I was pulled out of a bad home when I was 2 years old by a black family that lived down the road from where my DNA donors lived. They took me in and loved me as one of their own and thanks to them I had the opportunity to be something better than I would have been. The down side was ridicule, children are the cruelest thing and I was constantly bullied by other black kids (we lived in a predominantly black neighborhood, and I went to a predominantly black school) for being white, and by the white kids for having a black family. I was kind of stuck in the middle.
My family got me through it, and were very supportive of me. My mom and dad treated me like their own kid, not some stray they took in. My brothers and sisters treated me like a real sibling. It was pretty great really, but I got hurt a lot from the things people from outside said. Yesterday as I was leaving work someone has wrote "nigger lover" in the dust on my back windshield and all the torment from my childhood reared back up. It really hurt that those kinds of things were brought back up.
I had a whole rant I wanted to write up and just vent my frustration with, but when I called my mom and told her what happened she asked me to come over for dinner that night. I showed up and she had gotten all of my brothers and sisters that still live in the area together and we had a huge family dinner. It made it all not matter any more, I had people that loved me that came to my aid in a dark moment so who cares what some ignorant asshole thinks.
My rave is for family, whether that family is blood, adopted, or just close friends that are always there. Family is the greatest thing there is in all of its forms!

I would have kept it there and added "And proud, mother fucker" to it and see which work colleague starts looking put out. Maybe some hearts and happy faces.
There is something truly peaceful and therapeutic about target practice. Almost as peaceful as hunting.
450 rounds downrange. Still proficient AF. I totally would have shot more but I only brought one box of ammo. By the end I was running 4 steel resetters and 3 torsos each round, all at UK distances between 10 and 75 yards. Always fun Kentucky-windaging a longer range target with a 9mm. Hoping Santa brings me my EDC Springfield Armory XDS in a .45 though because I love my Mil-Spec but hate the 5" for EDC. PEW *ding* Ommmmm.
I had a great Thanksgiving! I went to two different houses and basically ate Thanksgiving food all day long, which was amazing, and got to see a lot of family, some of whom I haven't seen since last Thanksgiving. All in all, a superb day.
Niece had a healthy, beautiful baby girl the day before Thanksgiving. We were a little worried because she ended up needing a C-section, but there were no complications beyond that. The mother was healthy enough to go home Friday afternoon. Super grateful for modern medicine, I don't want to think about how things might have went if C-section wasn't an option. Massive respect to all the nurses and doctors out there.
Dating myself here but.. rediscovering my youth with The Nipple Erectors, The Pogues, and later, The Popes. Shawn Macgowan was pretty amazing. As a kid I never understood the bands but listened to them in my early 90s punk phase. I kept asking how I knew the songs by the Dropkick Murphys. My boss at work asked if I was having a party because of The Pogues.
Case I finished back in late February, dude just got arrested December 03 and charged with a Class C felony, Possession of Child Pornography, 2nd degree. Minimum 2 year sentence. Register as a sex offender.
I also finished my stats for the year. (9) cases consisting of examining and analysing (35) hard drives; (8) cell phones; (46) CD/DVDs; (26) SD card, thumb drive, etc; previewing (43) items; and over 18TB of data (3 cases had nothing of evidentiary value).
Seems a weird thing to rave about but it's good to see the work making an impact and these people getting arrested (or released from suspicion/accusations). My next case has over 179 items just by itself. Then I might be getting the case from two towns away where the guy was trafficking minors and had dungeons in 2 towns and ran a hotel, as an EMT for another town.
Not entirely sure they belong here, but awhile back I posted pictures of the solar eclipse taken through my telescope. With even less planning than that, here's some I took last night of the lunar eclipse:

Had a guest at work call today and ask to have a shirtless picture of Zac Efron in her room at the time of check-in. Compared to my last job, this one is particularly dull, so that small request made my night.
My avatar is an image created by this very talented gentleman, of whose work I am extremely jealous. It was not originally a picture of Amunet, but it certainly looks a great deal like how I envision her!
I was at this Irish bar in downtown Portland on St. Patricks Day years back and this band was setting up. Long story short, a while later I hear a guy talking over the microphone and the voice sounded really familiar. Turn around and Flogging Molly was doing a surprise show. EPIC.

Currently in LA visiting an old school friend who lives here now. At time of writing this I've been up 26hrs and counting. Much fun, much planned for tomorrow including Malibu Beach and Lakers tickets. Then drive to Vegas on Monday for work. Tough, but someone has to do it.

First song I heard by him.
My favorites are SOS (love the lyrics) and
Confessa and The Diva Dance (which I only ever heard before on the movie the Fifth Element )
And for anyone interested, the following has all of his songs in one video:
That is all.
