My boss approved me to hire two more people (internal hires, from three levels down), which is absolutely amazing, as I finally got to hire a girl who rose to top of her group (of around 500 people) in nine months. Literally just in time - she was going to leave the company in two months, when school started, because they couldn't accommodate her schedule (and I can!).
Update to this - year and a half or so later. I've been doing three jobs off and on due to shortages in the department and lack of decent replacements. This girl mentioned above? She's been assisting, slowly took on more and more of my responsibilities as a system admin (on top of what she was already doing - kid was a godsend), and I just got approval to give her the position - new quarter, we're getting so much more approved now. I also just moved the two teams I manage to another of my employees, because - well - I just got the promotion I've been aiming for.
This road has been five years long, absolute madness a times, and today it all pays off.
I have to say, my boss is absolutely amazing. I've never had anyone push so hard to get me what I've deserved, but he's pushed for this for three years straight, and it all is just now falling into place.
Now I just wait for him to retire and take his position...
There's still a week before classes start here and I've had my syllabi ready to go for a while now. I log in to send them to the printer and do one more review....
<<Begin internal monologue>>
Hrm. They're mighty wordy. If I was a student I think I'd be bored stiff by this.
And so... I spent the last 6 hours re-tooling everything. Behold, my new infographic syllabus!
I'm sort of incredibly happy with it.
P.s. In case you're wondering why there's stuff about happiness all over it, we're reading The Happiness Project this winter and going to be doing some research on the psychology of happiness, etc.
Went to lunch with a friend and sat in the sun for one of the warmest days I can remember in a while. Soaked in the rays for a while, drank beer. When I came home it still felt so amazing out that I spent a few hours working on my weed infested garden. It would have been the perfect day if there hadn't been so many effing spiders. I jumped to my feet from my knees in like .0001 seconds several times to run away. But the weeds must be dealt with and it was a glorious day. Thanks California
I got a 1TB eternal HDD early for my birthday from my dad. I proceeded to take it apart and was pleaseantly surprised to find that the manufacturers did not actually solder the USB to the HDD but have instead, included a nice SATA to USB adapter with a HDD that would fit right into my laptop internally.
This birthday present had implications far beyond what was expected of it.

An eternal hard drive? Now that's high tech.
It's a marketing thing. They say eternal, but it probably only lasts about 70 billion years give or take.

Krenim: Hounds? How cliche.

Asked my father about some options about buying a camera for my SO (dad's a pretty serious photographer), father mentioned that he happens to be wanting to upgrade one of his and offers to sell it to me for the same price as the (muuuch cheaper) options I was looking at!
He also threw in a battery side grip and two extra batteries for free. So damn stoked!
Should be arriving tomorrow, cant wait to see his face XD
Owner of the company visited today. He was told I'm a crap worker (as a joke) he took it seriously. Came into the shop, only to find me busting ass on an FR-S, Maxima, AND a friggin' Ram 2500. He looked at my supervisor and told him he was an idiot. I love when jokes backfire.

I don't know what any of that means, but go you! 'Bout time you had some good luck.

Toyota.
*Scion, Nissan, and Dodge. We can thus assume Daslin works as a mechanic in a shop.

Or he's work in a chop-shop.
Scion, duh. I'm horrible with cars, should have kept my mouth shut.

I was super surprised. Best part is, first half of the first season is easily found to stream online, the second half is airing early April, and they already are planning out the second season. Eeeeeee.
And while I'm only to episode two, it's so far amazingly accurate and awesome.
And I love too Be still, my indelible friend That love soon might end You are unbreaking And be known in its aching Though quaking Shown in this shaking Though crazy Lately of my wasteland, baby That's just wasteland, baby
I recall being told about a, uh, -different- game of Spoons, in which you need a carload of four people. The front passenger is the player, and must yell a racial slur out at someone while throwing a spoon at them, trying to hit them. If they miss, the car gets stopped and they have to go pick it up.
Not going to lie, the idea of a FAMILY SPOONS TOURNAMENT when my only knowledge of the game was this was simultaneously LOL and WTF
Not gonna lie, a game like this doesn't sound out of the realm of possibility of things we might play as a family.
For clarification I'm a Lot Tech at a dealership on paper. In reality? I am a Lot Tech, a Lube Tech, and a flat-rate mechanic. I've been there round-abouts a month and I'm already picking up my idiot coworkers' slack and then some. Good thing I'm not a spiteful guy, right? ...right? guys? Where'd you go? Oh right, I got two of you fired.
edit - not kidding. I got two dudes fired in my first 4 weeks, because they caught me doing their jobs.... better than they do them. Was told over the phone today that I might actually be getting moved to mechanic.
I'm so sick of being so busy and taxed with school work. Literally worked day and night to finish this piece of assignment, along with having spent the past week or so scouring through this pile of journal articles...
...and a few more articles on hard copy. However, I'm happy that today's the deadline for the literature review and I'm about ready to submit it so that I can go back to playing Achaea properly again! O Achaea, my sweet text game, how I have missed you so.
"Mummy, I'm hungry, but there's no one to eat! :C"
