  • Ive been doing some reading , i read about excommunication for priests who go against light/good

my question is - is there the same thing for apostates if they dont serve evil and occultists if they dont serve chaos?

Necromancy users have an excommunication-like thing (anathema?), but it's a little less severe since it can be restored by mortals, while excommunication can only be restored by the Divine (in this case, Aurora/Deucalion).

Chaos users are pretty different in that while they at least must acknowledge Babel, they are not required to serve his purposes or follow a certain set of beliefs, so you would have to have to specifically piss him or the Chaos lords off for something that bad to happen. Only one person has done that, as far as I know.
And I love too                                                                          Be still, my indelible friend
That love soon might end                                                         You are unbreaking
And be known in its aching                                                      Though quaking
Shown in this shaking                                                             Though crazy

Not really sure how many cases of various occultist excom-type things there have been, but I know Inc was cursed and stripped of some skills (don't remember if it was Occultism or Domination) and Priyer had some similar issue (not sure if he was stripped of skills, but had something he had to work out with Babel and Golgotha, as I understood it).
  • I think Saadya also got domination revoked. Something about killing a lightning eagle for Golgotha to get it back
  • I think it was Euronymous who lost domination for giving tours of the chaos plane.

I was mostly just remembering the guy who got all the shouts that one day. Didn't know there were more! That's nifty.

Why, if you're deaf with mindseye up, can you hear yelling but not shouting?

This always bothered me, and I don't understand.

Yeah. I'll admit that this single mechanic is probably responsible for my reluctance to wholly leave OOC clans, just so I can randomly catch "OH *#^%, SOMETHING'S HAPPENING" and know to drop deafness so my log has ze shouts. This is bad and I should feel bad, but them's the breaks.

So aural earrings have a purpose.

    Aural Earrings: 150 credits
       - An earring that when worn, functions like it has the earring of
hearing enchantment, allowing you to hear while deaf, but unlike the
earring of hearing, will also let you hear shouts and yells.

Bolded still leaves me questioning why yells and shouts are treated differently by mindseye. I'd obviously consider mindseye allowing shouts to be heard a win because I don't have this artefact and I'm a cheap bastard, but another part of me would also agree with leaving the artefact as it is and mindseye not letting you hear yells. Either way, having one and not the other makes me go 'buh?'

Because they are out of your direct vicinity. Unlike hearing people in the same room while deaf, yells could be the other side of the area and shouts are continent wide.

It makes sense and I love my aural earring.

Eh? You seem to be saying it makes sense for mindseye to only work in room, which would mean it shouldn't let you hear yells, as it currently does.

Really @Eld? I've never heard yells with just mindseye up, at least that I recall. Unless it was something that was changed at some stage, I always had to remove deafness to hear them.

Happy to be corrected, though I can only go off personal experience.

Is there any difference between cities and subdivisions for yells being picked up? And with commications going global telepathically, would that have changed anything?

  • You can definitely hear yells while deaf, but only shouts by Divine/denizens.

                   Honourable, knight eternal,

                                            Darkly evil, cruel infernal.

                                                                     Necromanctic to the core,

                                                                                             Dance with death forever more.

  • You've been able to hear yells with mindseye for years, but that wasn't always the case. I also suspect that the earring of hearing enchantment doesn't allow either of them to be heard if you happen to be deaf but didn't have mindseye up.

  • For knights, are rapiers the go-to for bashing?

  • There's arguments both ways, but, to be honest, I'd say it's more about flavor than anything else. What fits your character best?

They generally are because both of the DPS and the fact you can hit and run more easily with the faster balance recovery.
