I disagree with this. All new characters should be treated exactly as such, they are NEW. This is a roleplay environment, where 18 year olds escape the pygmies and have to begin learning. I don't buy into the old soul/experienced soul crap that want to pull. If you want to start a new character, play it appropriately.
From an in-character viewpoint, 18 year olds aren't magically generated into the world with absolutely no idea what they're doing. It's not unreasonable to say "Well, I learned such and such while I was studying to become <class> for the last few years."
They are, however, 'generated' with an absence of strong memory. Which is how basically all incarnations of the trial has been carried out. Not 'unreasonable' no, but don't expect to be taken seriously if you're acting like an 18 year old that knows everything about Achaea already, and try to pass it off as 'well I studied history a lot when I was younger' - No you didn't.
I dunno. Actions speak louder than words. If someone comes about and roflstomps as an 18 year old I'd take them seriously. Some people learn and dominate very quickly. (@farrah comes to mind)

Nope. There's nothing that says 'welp, you lost all your memory and everything you learned during the last 18 years, you're a crippled infant who has to learn how to walk and not shit herself again.' If my character learned basic Achaean history like "we blew up the planets" and "a lot of gods died" before she turned 18, so she did, and there's nothing nobody can say otherwise. Also, on an OOC level, I really honestly don't think anyone will actually care if you "act like an alt", because it saves them the exasperation of having to teach a true newbie everything they need to know.
18 year olds are not toddlers. They've had the past 8+ years of their life to learn serious worldly concepts like "how to stab things" and "what are elixirs". Presumably these are things that every parent would want to teach their kid once they're old enough to understand the concepts of injury and death. Juliet of Shakespearean fame was 13 years old, and look at all the crap she had to deal with. (Think about that next time you see the guides playing lovey dovey on Newbie.) If I lived in Achaea, I'd tell my kid how to sip health as soon as they could drink things on their own.
Just because a portion of 18 year old characters created in the game happen to be played by true newbies does not mean that every single person on Sapience that turns 18 magically loses all their memories and has to relearn how the world works from scratch.
Memory loss isn't a coded-in thing, it's more of a culture thing. A lot of people have it for varying reasons (Mel did in the early years, even though I've since cleaned up a lot of her early history), but also a lot of people do plan stories out as they create a character now (I've done this with two other characters). Most people understand and won't press too hard if a newbie says they don't really remember, but it's definitely not a thing set in stone.
Edit: Also, unfortunately I have to agree the current newbie trial thing is pretty uninspiring, and I'm glad I made during the Trial of Rebirth, which had actual historical meaning to it. The current is just... bland, in the Achaea story universe. I DO love the updated mechanics it works on and the theme of the overall plot to a point, but the actual dungeon plus newbie areas is meh.
And I love too Be still, my indelible friend That love soon might end You are unbreaking And be known in its aching Though quaking Shown in this shaking Though crazy Lately of my wasteland, baby That's just wasteland, baby
Newbie areas have to strike a careful balance between being interesting enough to keep people interested while also being small scale enough so that they seem reasonable and so that they give you plenty of room to build up from.
Honestly, I think the only major change that needs to be made to it is just changing it from pygmies. Pretty much anything less comical would do. If you just turned them into beast cultists or something it would work just as well and feel less ridiculous.

Why not? Who says they did not? Plenty of characters I've seen do this and I find it completely acceptable. To me, the weird thing is to be completely amnesiac not only about eighteen whole years, but about the world at large. A lot of characters do it because they are either newbies, in which case it can't be helped, or because they don't have a particular background set and are waiting to create one when they find parent/family. However, that is by no means an obligation, and you can fully step out of the current incarnation of the introduction with a full story accounting for those eighteen years of your life.
And you won't understand the cause of your grief...
In the front of "people with backstories prior to 18"...
Frederich grew up in Nimick and had a family there. They might've not been his blood family (because holy shit were his actual parents pretty fuggin terrible), but they treated him as such and raised him up as a farm boy. He still treats Nimick as his home, and loves the people there. It's how he got a strong sense of "don't murder people", because that's just a part of his backstory. In all my time of playing Achaea with him he's never actively hunted actual people. (Moghedu maybe 1-3 times because dragged along for group hunting, Fortress on Meropis once). Once I started fleshing out his backstory more, I pretty much had him stopping hurting people who don't deserve it over all.
And yes, that means not hurting any (helpless) women and children, even if they're filthy Vertani or orcs. He won't even hurt the elderly, like the smith on the west side of Dun Fort, and he'll refrain from hurting the orc sergeant on F3 of Dun Fortress. Simply because it heavily conflicts with moral code.. but I sort of went on a tangent.
More or less, people are allowed to have backstory before the age of 18. Frederich asked to go see the world that his sheltered Nimick life hadn't gotten to show him, so he went to Cyrene after asking for a send off. On his way past Minia, he got clonked upside the head and dragged off. Because travelling the great road probably takes a lot longer than you actually think if we're being realistic.
Medallions have never been able to be pickpocketed while worn, this has simply been a case of inflated misinformation.
Was I wrong to assume that this meant the medallions weren't ever intended to be pickpocketable while worn? Or was there a change in the admin stance on this at some point?

From what I can tell, all items fall into two "pickpocket-able" camps -- regardless if it's WORN/WIELDED/HELD:

The whole 'you seriously want to get eaten by pygmies?' thing is what sold me on this game, dude. That and the belt from the wheel. Mostly the pygmy jokes at the start.

1.6s balance for 4% health
Consume is 1.5s balance (in the AB file), so you might be getting latency there?

Best best for the OCD for now is to stick the ones you have in a shop stockroom and then take them out when you get the other 2.
Other ideas include IDEAing a stock increase in the shops to help, which I encourage. My vial OCD, too, demands uniformity in month decay.
