Does being deaf with the mindseye defense prevent you from hearing yells/shouts? I could have sworn it did, but I recently met someone who disagreed, and proved that at least yells worked. I thought that's what the aural earring artefact was for.
You can definitely hear yells, and definitely can't hear non-God shouts. This is one of the main reasons those horn talismans are so worthless. No one is going to hear you anyway.

Unless you're among those of us who possess an aural earring.

Health formula is  (3*con+4)*level+300 I think. It's lower for levels past 100 though, I believe
    Over 100, it's 300 + (3*con+4)*level - 20*(level-100).

I tried that formula just now on myself, and it was off by about 200.

What's your level and con? Edit: And health?
  • edited May 2015
Level is 89, con is 13, and my health is 4127 (no arties on)

Edit: And the formula claims my health should be 4347
  • According to the formula your health should be 4127, because you're not over level 100.
  • Oh right, I misunderstood what was said before.

    Crisis averted!

@Sarapis - will we be able to buy the Maelstrom prizes from other adventurers if we don't earn enough? Kinda wish we could see our progress on that, but if we can at least buy unwanted prizes from others I won't feel so bad if somehow I don't kill enough.
What doesn't kill you gives you exp.

I would indeed like to know what sort of progress is needed for the Maelstrom prizes.

I issued myself about this and was told that they will provide a way to check your progress once Maelstrom is ready to give out/sell the rewards. So I imagine they're still tweaking the system.

Okay so the question that has been ringing in my head since I saw Maelstrom's sign...

What the heck is a nytrow? I've googled, I've looked around in lore, and I cannot find anything.

Edit: Also very curious if the items from Maelstrom are tradeable, too.

Right, I'd love that question answered too! The moth is a pet, I assume. I don't want to spend 300 esteem to find out though!

    Upon walking into the drydocks:

Captain Maelstrom tells you, "You look like you've been assisting! Your esteem count is currently at
    25. You can ASK MAELSTROM CLAIM <prize> right here, or TELL MAELSTROM ESTEEM at any time to find out
    what your count is."

You read what is written on a seaweed-covered, driftwood sign:

    ITEM                                KEYWORD     COST
    ==========================================================
    1 - a bag of 3000 gold              GOLD         20
    2 - a rounded, bronze helm          HELM         30
    3 - a backpack of woven sargassum   BACKPACK     40
    4 - a string of running lights      LIGHTS       50
    5 - a great leopard cowry           COWRY        60
    6 - a worn hurdy gurdy              HURDYGURDY   75
7 - an undead horse figurehead      FIGUREHEAD  100
    8 - a death's head moth             MOTH        300

  • Can anyone post descriptions of the Maelstrom items?

  • a backpack of woven sargassum

Sargassum, a great mats of oceanic grasses, has given up its fibres to craft this pack. Intricate
knotwork fashions stylised images of fish in the surface that rises from a circular base,
culminating in a drawstring fastening of a threaded, braided, black material. Creating a constrast,
and representing the other benign materials of the great current wanderer, the patterning is worked
in fine and pliable red fronds and is shot through with thick blades of pale green grasses; the same
larger weeds are also wound and tied to form the two shoulder straps.
It has 124 months of usefulness left.
It weighs about 3 pounds and 0 ounce(s).

  • ShirszaeShirszae Santo Domingo
    A worn hurdy gurdy

Crafted from a sun-bleached driftwood, the belly and body of this whimsical instrument boast a warm, eburnean gleam. The keybox hosts an array of seaborne vessels carefully painted on each intricately shifting surface, the enamel worn by the loving touch of a musician. The sliding chien at the back end boasts a wave pattern, mimicking the rolling back and forth of the tides in parallel with its intended use. A scrimshawed series of tuning pegs project from the neck, each carved to resemble a denizen of the deep, and the same ivory accent is hosted along the base of the handle.
It has 120 months of usefulness left.

And you won't understand the cause of your grief...

...But you'll always follow the voices beneath.

  • TharvisTharvis The Land of Beer and Chocolate!
    a rounded, bronze helm

This utilitarian helm is wrought from bronze and shaped into a form where threat mitigation clearly
drove the design. Fashioned to cover the wearer's entire head, the only allowance for comfort is an
abbreviated back that concedes the ability to tip the headpiece to rest on the nape of the neck. A
convex crown gives way to straight lines that flare slightly at the chin level. The exhaustive
protection provided is diminished only by two teardrop cutouts that allow for limited vision and the
narrow channel that is left open beneath them for breathing. The thin strip of metal running from
the bridge of the nose to the mouth attempts to alleviate any risk this concession to sight and
breathe might generate. Some lightly etched filigree around the eye pieces completes the armour, the
sole indulgence to form over function.
It has 119 months of usefulness left.
It weighs about 3 pounds and 8 ounce(s).

    a great leopard cowry

Large enough to be cupped in both hands, this great leopard cowry bears a range of shining hues, and
looks as if it was made of fine porcelain. A mottling of ochres, rich browns, and pale golds cover
the domed surface; like the coat of the fabled feline, these spotted markings are what give the
tropical shell its name. Normally the underside, the split and toothed flat side gleams a warm, pale
cream and serves as a drinking and refilling aperture.
It has 119 months of usefulness left.
    It weighs 0 ounce(s).
    Rum sloshes about in it.
    There are 6 sips remaining.

Greetings! In regards to issue #72953: Some items can be customised, yes. Unfortunately, the cowry is not one of those items. Please let us know if there's anything else we can assist you with.
