    I'm trying out a Mhaldorian alt.  So far I haven't been beheaded.  I guess that's a rave?

We are usually very helpful with novices, I would even dare to say, more than the average.

I must have showed up at a poor time then. The only thing I got was a 'shut up you're a slave.' and nothing more when I created my character.

Yeah, I'm sure that can happen from time to time, it's all situational. Sometimes everyone in the city is about looking for something to dive into. Other times everyone in the city is engaged and busy with activities. It's not always lively nor is it always so quiet. We also tend to have really strange peak hours in Mhaldor.

With that said, being told to shut up as a slave is common. Just slave problems. Sometimes you just have to stick around long enough, and poke (appropriately) at people until you find someone who has the attention to engage with you. Asking questions about the city, the beliefs or history is a really good way to get a lot of people to open up. Showing interest in the city makes the city interested in investing in you.

Of course, these are not new words of advice, but something to consider. I wouldn't take it personally if I were you. I'm not a novice in Mhaldor now and I still have days where I don't connect with anyone; Also, days where I can't get enough conversation. I think part of the key to being content in any part of the gameworld is knowing how to self-entertain to an extent.

No, targossans do rp rite, we did rp left.  Tanae pulled a didn't join a house problem, but she's a newbie and did not know that obv.

Right and all of these things are excellent ideas for someone who understands the game. For someone brand to to MUDS and the game in general it provides a very poor first experience. I'm not saying Mhaldor needs to change their roleplay but things need to be explained a bit more in depth or possible explained before choosing your city that Mhaldor could be considered more of an experienced players city.

  • JurixeJurixe Where you least expect it
Unfortunate to hear of your experience, usually players tend to be pretty good at nudging new unhoused players to a House - even if people go 'silence, slave' on CT, they'll usually help you out privately. It must just have been a bad time.

That being said, welcome to Achaea! Hopefully you'll have more fun experiences to balance out the initial setback. I promise you it's well worth it.

Thank you for taking the time to offer some valuable perspective, @Tanae. I think your experience speaks for itself. If you decide to dust off the character again, don't be a stranger.

  • Of course. I know it's hard to see things from a new players perspective in games with such a tight knit playerbase full of veterans like this. I haven't actually quit I just moved to a different city for help. I've been around for about a week now! Once I left Mhaldor I found plenty of people willing to teach me.

    And maybe too tightly sometimes!

  • Heh yeah I'm sure that happens sometimes. Luckily I've been able to find the answers I need so far.

My Team Yudhi sweater was approved!  Thanks @Jhaeli!

a red boiled wool pro-dragon sweater

Knit of homespun wool, this scratchy sweater has been dyed poorly, creating an uneven, ashy hue of red reminiscent of cooling lava. Its bulk is quite capable of concealing one's own, even after a strict Cyrenian winter diet of Arcane Holoburgers and Blackbird Pie. Stained with the occasional smudge of dried sauce, white satin ribbon stitched hastily outlines "Team Yudhi!" on the front and "Maklak is a hack!" on the back.

A bulky sweater of boiled wool lies here in an ashy red heap.

Now if only I'd resubmitted one of my designs before they stopped reviewing them D:

Oh. I didn't know there were a lot others sending tells, explaining to novices etc. I try to talk to them privately asap.

I was at the receiving end of "Silence, slave" before and I thought it was cool as hell.
