Just crocheted a new sunhat for my little girl. Still have to add on a flower embellishment, but it's so cute as is.
"Gilgamesh, where are you hurrying to? You will never find that [everlasting] life for which you are looking. When the gods created man they allotted to him death, but life they retained in their own keeping. As for you, Gilgamesh, fill your belly with good things; day and night, night and day, dance and be merry, feast and rejoice. Let your clothes be fresh, bathe yourself in water, cherish the little child that holds your hand, and make your wife happy in your embrace; for this too is the lot of man."
Over the last 20 weeks, I've been on a nutritional plan to drop my excess baggage. On the weekend, I hit the point where I've lost 20kg so far, averaging 1 kg per week. That's around 44lbs for those using the imperial system. I took a snapshot and was hoping to have a side-by-side before and after pic, but I can't find them. Anyway here I am, on the road to feeling better but already 20 kg lighter:

prologue: I have a wonderful, smart, loving kitten who epitomizes everything a feline member of the family should be. She is indoor-outdoor (at her discretion), so sometimes I leave food for her outside. Lately, a neighborhood raccoon has been sneaking onto my property to steal my kitty's food. This greatly upsets me, and my kat, because it sometimes leads to confrontation between the two little creatures. I say "little creatures" here in relation to me.. the truth is, the raccoon is many times larger than my beloved Tink and significantly more vicious. I have been keeping an eye out for any potential solutions to this problem.. and so..
I get out of the shower this morning, put on my bathrobe and begin brushing my teeth. Glancing out the bathroom window that faces into my backyard, I notice the tiniest flicker of movement out of my peripheral. It's low to the ground, behind one of my apple trees. I get a wide variety of birds throughout the day because of all my feeders and the shrubbery, so I assume it's a Towhee or something back there foraging. I pay it no mind for a moment, instead focusing on the task at hand, before something in my brain informs me that Towhees don't slink. My eyes dart back to the tree and I see a fat raccoon slinking across my yard, headed for my kitty's dish.
I promptly sprint to the backdoor, where I have my Benjamin air-rifle waiting for me, ready for action. I grab it, release the safety (it's already loaded and pumped), open the backdoor and take aim. Of course, the raccoon hears me opening the backdoor and promptly runs away from me, the door, and my deck. The problem is, he runs directly left of me, which is a dead-end route cut off by my 7", entirely enclosed wooden fence. However, in the back corner of the yard (more diagonal from me now) sits a toolshed, with a path going all the way around it (between it and the fence.) The raccoon is now making a full sprint for that path. Having realized his objective, I readjusted my aim and gave him a little lead on the shed. I squeezed the trigger and heard the tell-tale "tap" of a pellet striking wood - I missed.
Intending to cut him off on the other side of the shed, I dashed toward the end of my deck and leaped down to the grass below.... or at least, I meant to.
What actually happened was I got tripped up on my bathrobe, stumbled, and fell off my deck, landing very badly on my left foot. For those of you who have forgotten some of the finer details, let me summarize:
I am wearing a bathrobe, holding an air-rifle, lying on my back in the grass, with a toothbrush hanging out of my mouth, while I'm pulling one of these:

I want to like and laugh, but can't because I can't have both and because injury is awful. Take it easy and get a cast on that when the swelling goes down (about 3 days from now).
The sweltering heat of the forge spills out across the land as the rumbling voice of Phaestus booms, "I want you to know, the Garden reaction to that one is: What?" The voice of Melantha, Goddess of the Seasons, echoes amid the rustle of leaves, "That's the censored version."
Yeah, @Keres, I don't know how you thought it was a good idea to post the pic of the busted ankle without including that story. It's like you care about your dignity or something. Hope it sets up well and heals quickly.

that particular model isn't large enough for the raccoon I was battling with
tho it would be a lot easier to shoot once it's stuck in one of those cages
hmmmmmm

I don't know how it did it, but a 38lb raccoon squeezed its way into one of those in my driveway. Best thing to use for bait without spending money (well sort of) is the little pad/diaper underneath steaks when you buy them at the grocery store. This way you get steak -and- a trapped raccoon.

@keres if you've not seen it, hunt down a movie called The Details. Add in a kidney transplant, a dead dog, and a bow and arrow and you would have been set!

How big do these racoons get? I might be from a country with venomous spiders and kangaroos, but they're not terribly large. These racoons sound like creatures the size of a average fat golden retriever...

Raccoons can get to more than 4 feet (~120cm) long and nearly 2 feet (~60cm) tall at the shoulder, and weigh 40+ pounds (~18kg). Most are less than half that though, and it depends on the area. Here in Florida they're rarely bigger than a large, fat cat.
