  • It's @Tvistor! The man is alive and going Bard! Glad to hear you're enjoying Australia (and really hoping you weren't near the Swanston St wall collapse) and slowly transing your skills. Don't forget to pop in now and then though, if just to say hello…even if we're different factions. Oh and by the way, enjoy Melbournian winter :D
"Faded away like the stars in the morning,
Losing their light in the glorious sun,
Thus would we pass from this earth and its toiling,
Only remembered for what we have done."

  • DID I NOT TELL YOU TO BRING AN UMBRELLA FOR THAT "FOUR-SEASONS-IN-ONE-DAY" CITY?

Now you know why people down there like their hot chocolate (and for some reason ice cream) shops en masse! That, and the rain is nothing til you experience a Brisbane flood where you need to surf your way out of suburbia to the CBD and have snakes swimming the things like a boss. HAVE FUN IN SUMMER WHEN EVERYTHING IS ON FIRE INSTEAD.

Melbs is at the butt end of Australia so you get the earthquakes too :3 But hey, venomous creatures and deadly weather aside, you get kick arse food 24/7 and some very, very obsessive rugby fans who try to beat up the protestors / buskers on a regularly basis.

If it helps: this was in my apartment when I was living down there — called a wood borer and about 2.5" long for this one:

God, I haven't laughed that hard in a while.

Come back, @Tvistor, we miss you. :(
And I love too                                                                          Be still, my indelible friend
That love soon might end                                                         You are unbreaking
And be known in its aching                                                      Though quaking
Shown in this shaking                                                             Though crazy
Lately of my wasteland, baby                                                 That's just wasteland, baby

@Wysteria HEY, MELBOURNE'S COOL, so cool in fact it's damn freezing!

@Tvistor really? Under 20? If it's under 20 and no rain, then it's picnic weather here.  But yeah, the weather does do some pretty freaky things here.  If you don't like the weather, just wait 10 mins and you'll be fine. But it has had the positive effect of providing us with some of the best cafes around where you can get a nice hot coffee/chocolate that is perfect to enjoy while the rain passes...enjoyed on Lygon st...with some nice warm crostoli or a delicious lemon meringue tart or...excuse me, I'll be back in about an hour.
Janeway: Tuvok! *clapclap* Release my hounds!
    Krenim: Hounds? How cliche.
Janeway: Tuvok! *clapclap* Release my rape gorilla!
    Krenim: ...We'll show ourselves out.
  • Only reason I'd ever go to Australia... just to see all the amazing food that's being talked about
    meh

don't remind me of all those cafes I misssss. Now I want to go to Richmond and eat at that place with the weird glossy bun American burgers, or that Chinese dessert / tea place that's named after an opium den you can only find upstairs which I stumbled upon one night at 3.30 in the morning…

Congrats @Ruth! I've seen you in lab coats so often it was a bit odd seeing you in the robes.

    This is my left thumb.

    This is my right thumb.

And here is the best picture I could get of the cut, now that the bleeding has stopped.  I can't bend my thumb this morning to actually see the bone, it's so swollen.

    image

Pardon my dirty fingernails; they look grosser than the thumb. :(

@Amunet have you looked into the charity regulations at the hospitals near you? Because in my experience a cut like that shouldn't just be left, its quite easy to not only get infected but if you nicked it bad enough and hit the bone (which it sounds like you might have) it can go terrrrrrribad.

@Titonus all I can think about right now is god awfully awesome cat calendars. Its not a bad thing.
(Mhaldor's Next Top Model): Melodie says, "Get rekt scrubbbbb."
(Mhaldor's Next Top Model): You say, "Scrubbbssss."
(Mhaldor's Next Top Model): Trey says, "Austere was hangin' out the passenger side of his best friend's ride, apparently."
  • @Amunet If you can, head to a drug store or walmart/kmart/whatever and get a thumb splint. And Urgent care as soon as you can, most hospitals will have a payment plan, and your college might have insurance for students, so talk to someone in your admissions office to see?

It feels like a hairline fracture, so there's not a lot that a doctor is going to be able to do for it that I can't do here at home. I've been cleaning the cut in the morning and at night with alcohol swabs and Neosporin, and in between I have my thumb splinted tightly with gauze, a tongue depressor, and cloth tape. I'm pretty sure I'll be fine (and saving myself the crippling debt that inevitably occurs following any sort of medical treatment).
