@Drodak Actually, the camera on the iphone is really good for what it is - it's tiny, it's got the best software of any camera in the world, and it's always with you. The latter, in particular, is key for taking good pictures, as you never know when the moment will strike.
It does fail in a few key areas though, like the lens, the sensor size, and the fact that it outputs jpgs rather than raw photo files. Still, I'm pretty sure that 10 years from now, the difference between the iphone 728 (or whatever) and a $1500 camera is not going to be that large.
@Sarapis I think I've got some new desktop backgrounds. Those are beautiful.
I'm not much of a photographer these days, outside of the gazillion photos I have of my daughter, but when I went to the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller, my husband and I took the time to hike up through the badlands to get a few amazing pictures. This was a few years ago, on my old iPhone uploaded directly to Facebook, so forgive me for the grainy-ness. It was hard to resist not going for a longer hike, but we had to start the drive home.
ETA: Yes, I was playing with the phone filters with these - as I said, this was a few years ago!
"Gilgamesh, where are you hurrying to? You will never find that [everlasting] life for which you are looking. When the gods created man they allotted to him death, but life they retained in their own keeping. As for you, Gilgamesh, fill your belly with good things; day and night, night and day, dance and be merry, feast and rejoice. Let your clothes be fresh, bathe yourself in water, cherish the little child that holds your hand, and make your wife happy in your embrace; for this too is the lot of man."
Does anyone else think of Professor Farnsworth saying "It's dolormite baby!" whenever @Sarapis posts one of those pics? Or for the Aussies of my generation and older, think of these guys?
And I love too Be still, my indelible friend That love soon might end You are unbreaking And be known in its aching Though quaking Shown in this shaking Though crazy Lately of my wasteland, baby That's just wasteland, baby

So, there was indeed a meet so tiny it could barely still be called such in New Orleans! @Micaelis was off being a family man and/or preventing Deepwater Horizon II almost all weekend, which meant that much of the time it was just me and @Rangor checking out the city. He was a gentleman and did not once attempt to mind throw me into a police blockade. There exists a mirror-selfie of the three of us, but it's up to Micaelis to post that.
It's a beautiful city. Here are some shitty pictures I took with my phone! (I should probably photograph -people- more often.)
French Quarter right before a downpour.
Rangor eats a bunch of tasty fried things and discovers that New Orleans is not a sweet tea kind of town.
FQ jazz band in motion. people down here who wear fedoras look more like they should be wearing them
taken from the St. Charles streetcar. I really want this house.
beautiful fountain at the entrance to Audubon Park. Humidity when this picture was taken: c. 300%.
at the zoo, Jhui and Dunn* contemplate the finer points of raid strategy (the one on the bottom is Jhui because of the terrifying rippling muscles)
lord sartan
(actually it's supposed to be a loup-garou)
The zoo has some white alligators (leucistic, not albino?) that are pretty rad. Rangor opined that the zookeeper girl there is an intern.
OK, more in next post.
*no actual meanness meant to their players
Don't tell anyone, but the Lord of Malevolence lived there for several years. It is his favorite place ever. I see you've also captured the likeness of one of the many shrines that my servants erected to me. NoLA too will fall to my plans.
@Ourania edited my post but I can't see anything changed. Did I accidental post something bad? Please don't send me to the moon. I am not that much of an explorer.

It IS a perfectly cromulent word!
