1) gogo hydroplane! (I had a very similar experience one day on the 580 onramp by Telegraph in the east bay; my toyo wonderwagon did a complete 360 and just kissed the guard rail; it was scary|fun)
That's just the universe reminding you that getting on 580 is never a good idea.

I'm in the UK, and this test was over powerline adapters, happy with what I've got, so much better than I had three months ago!

My office actually closed for a snow day today. Seeing that we wouldn't have had a holiday until Memorial Day, I'm pleased that this storm is hitting hard (but not too hard).
Rave: Starting to work on more complex reports and coding now that I've learned a little more and one of the formulas in the report I'm working on atm is "=If [LY Day DS Revenue] <> 0 Then ([TY Day DS Revenue]-[LY Day DS Revenue]) / [LY Day DS Revenue]" When I saw that I had a little nerd chuckle because they don't want you to divide by 0 and I instantly started thinking about all those pictures you see of the black hole that's created when you do and was like "Wow, even the person who built this report originally is making sure the universe is safe"

I'm officially on bedrest until Monday. Whee! Asides from having to keep my leg elevated, my foot is all bandaged up and I have a compression stocking on. After the last week, this thing feels amazing. And I put out five vials of blood this morning without needing to get jabbed repeatedly. No junkie arms today!

Whilst the rest of the world is being hammered by strong winds, thunderstorms, and tons of snow, South Africa on the other hand is a beautiful little sunflower soaking up the temperate sun. Which is why I shall be taking vacation for the next 2 weeks and enjoy the latter on an exceedingly warm beach (hate the cold, love the heat) and celebrating my birthday on Table Mountain - with wine, lots of wine. My friend has just finished her engineering degree and it will be her first time in Cape Town, so my boyfriend and I have created her entire itinerary for her. Super excited!

I hate you and hope your wine spills on your white pants.
I don't know why I imagine you in white pants, but I do.

First time going to one of the local coffee roaster/shops that's pretty far off the beaten path here in Detroit (unless you're familiar with it to begin with). Wasn't exactly what to expect since it shares its space with a bunch of other non-profit groups and so forth in the same building for very very cheap rent.
Walked in from the side entrance (which I didn't even realize was there at first because I missed the sign made from a crate with their logo on it on the corner - in addition to the graffiti on the door/wall from the parking lot) and just a really nice small space. Probably not much bigger than my apartment (I live in a 730 sq. ft studio) with the roaster right by the door and a handful of repurposed chairs, tables, and a bench built into the wall. In the center of the room is a rather large table on wheels that has their entire setup on it (huge Mahlkoenig EKK43 grinder, a fairly new installed modbar (espresso machine that leaves most of the controls and whatnot underneath the table, just leaving a slick gasket on top of the table to place the portafilter, a reverse-osmosis machine underneath the bar with a spigot coming out of the table, a few electric water kettles, a few scales, and a side-cart table with all their glassware).
The main reason I finally stopped in was I noticed they were offering a free one hour class on a particular coffee brewer I just received for Christmas and still struggling to make a good cup yet. Little did I know the guy who was presenting the information actually took 2nd place at the Regional Brewer's Cup and is heading out to Portland for Nationals in April. Needless to say I was a bit stunned after he gave us samples of what the manufacturer recommends, his recipe from last year, and the new one that he's working on with his new prototype part. I also found out they're hosting a North Central competition on this brewer by itself in just under a month. I'm thinking I'll go ahead and give it a try just to say I tried and be a new experience.
As a bonus, most of my evening was spent watching House of Cards S2 (I'm not terribly impressed yet a few episodes) but enjoyed a few glasses of wine and champagne.
@Valden I don't know why you would think otherwise unless you're judging based on Starbucks and the like, which would be like eating at Taco Bell and then being amazed when told it's possible to get good Mexican food here.
@Yang, out of curiosity, what's the brewer you were having trouble with?
It's possible! You just have to know which cafes to go to! And who the good roasters are!
You should come to melbourne, about the only places that do bad coffee here are Starbucks and Gloria Jeans. Hell, even McDonalds can pull off a pretty good coffee

@Valden Yes, there's TONS of places to get a good cup coffee in the US. On the national front, Intelligentsia (Chicago/SF Bay Area/NYC), Blue Bottle (SF Bay Area/NYC), Stumptown (Portland, Seattle, LA, NYC), Ritual (SF Bay Area), Metropolis (Chicago). There's also a ton of smaller ones you just kind have to look around your area to see if there's anything (in Michigan there's Anthology (roast their own) and Astro (import mostly from SF Bay Area but really well prepared) in Detroit, Zingerman's & Ugly Mug Coffee in Ann Arbor (roasts their own), Madcap and Rowster (roast their own) in Grand Rapids.
@Eld the Aeropress. Yes, it's super easy and forgiving in a lot of ways, but I've yet to get a consistent cup or one that I can take a sip and say, "Yes, this one was good."
Not really.. I mean.. it's capable of making a really strong short cup of coffee, but I'm hesitant to really call it espresso by any means. Especially if you follow the manual it comes with - suggesting that the water temperature should 175F-185F when most coffee experts agree that 195F-205F is the standard. It's really convenient in portability/traveling (provided you have a hand grinder and water source). Let's be honest, it's made by the same company that makes frisbees (including the one used for the farthest throw for Guinness World Records)
I'd like to thank @Kresslack for being a completely ballin' dude and helping me fix a problem with my computer that I've not been able to fix for near 5 months. Hurrah!

Just about everyone I know is dreading Valentine's. I can't see why though... discount on all candy and chocolate after the holiday. :P
