Tyrian. Still my favorite shmup ever. The assets for the game were released into the open domain and the game itself is now free. You can get OpenTyrian and run it on windows.

Patapon, which was released 6 years ago, is a rhythm-based side-scrolling real-time strategy game.

So I tried out this game called "Men of War: Assault Squad".

It's amazing. I don't know why this didn't become so popular! It's a really amazing game..and it's incredibly hard too. Really great for co-ops!

I got the urge to play a game I haven't played in years, Tzar: Burden of the Crown. It's an RTS in which you play as one of three available factions: European, Asian, or Arabian. You build houses, barracks, blacksmith, research, gather commodities, and then send troops to try to tear down everything the enemy has built and destroy their palace.

I especially liked it for a few specific reasons: It's a great, low rez game that's a lot of fun. It has a lot of advanced research skills available which add a completely new element to the game: such as the Asian faction being able to build a sorcery tower which allows their sorcerors to learn a spell in which each of them can summon a dragon to fly across the map. 

It features both land and sea combat, as well as land and sea resource gathering. There are sometimes randomly spawned special items, such as a book, a sword, a bow, a shield, etc which will boost the stats of whichever of your soldiers picks it up, and each can hold up to four I believe. This may be to allow them to cast a certain spell or increase stats.

One thing I Really liked, was that if a soldier fought long enough and survived enough battles, he became a Hero with a name, and could boost the moral of surrounding troops. The problem is, this game went out of production and is not longer available in the U.S., or anywhere that I can find to buy. 

Guess I'll trying Grand Ages: Rome, instead.
