I also always eat cohosh rather than insomnia when I can afford it herb-balance wise, particularly when fighting against a class where mana is relevant.

But then, I also don't focus any affs if I can currently cure them via herbs, so both is similarly useless in most cases. (Bit different when factoring in voidfist, of course, which may cause me to still focus.)

Cohosh is weird, it requires you to have herb balance but it doesn't actually use it up.

  • Eh. I use impaleslash and blade twist to drain mana. It's important to control that one sip your opponent will get before twists roll on. All the attacks and kill should ideally happen within that sip.

  • Damnation is a joke at the moment, wouldn't bother trying for it until something gets done with it. Paladin still has a good few options more viable, so they're probably worth focusing on for now.

Always found the vivisect arguments stupid. All instakills have things you can do to avoid them. The measures you can take to stop vivisect are far less simple (most you can just touch shield or tumble). Vivisect is not the only way infernals have to kill people. (Its the best, obviously). I could somewhat sympathise if absolutely noone was getting vivisected, but because an exclusively small group of people are able to avoid vivisect extremely well is not justification in my mind to increase vivisects effectiveness against the rest of the population who still die if you break three limbs with x venoms.

Ring of flying will save you from those brokenstars, btw. Buy ring of flying, today.

I have to say I appreciate when people are willing to share their combat knowledge. Knowing something does not mean you will be brilliant at doing it so people who fight more will most likely still stay better, so I see no reason to treat every tactic like a state secret.

And it is easy to say "Ask IG" but some people do not know good fighters, or the fighters do not always have time to sit and teach each noob. Or in many cases, said fighters are in an opposing faction.
Rean taught anyone from any city, most other people from the Order did too - so long as they approach him about the Order rather than just 'teach me combat' (which he generally ignores, even from housemates). Granted, I don't know everything about every class but I think learning in-game is a much more rewarding experience than browsing on the forums. Just mentioning it so you guys know the option's there.  Jhui will probably still teach people, he's pretty amazing as runewarden. It's great seeing more interest in (non-raid) combat in general, look forward to seeing new faces.

Conflicted wanted to like Tanris' above post but then I got to the shameless product placement at the end. :/

  • Does anyone know exactly how the 5/10/15% damage increase from blademaster bands is applied? In the wake of the recent drawslash change, I did a little testing. Apparently bands now affect denizen damage as well, but I seem to only be getting about a 9% damage increase from a level 3 band (unstanced drawslash on a falcon with 14 str goes from 488 to 533), or about 11% against players (unstanced drawslash on a 5500 health target without armour went from 626 to 695).

Avoiding vivisect like those few people who do also opens you up to other cool tricks.

  • A smart Infernal with a solid defence is practically impossible to stop. This is because "Optimal" curing against vivisect as I PM'd @Cooper yesterday leaves you with the high, high, high possibility of having your rift shut off, your arm mangled and being pipelocked in time for an epseth/epseth vivisect. While you say other cool tricks though, those other cool tricks (That I can think of, anyway) are simply stopped by being alert and curing smartly. For example if a person who cures 'optimally' but does it auto - they're going to get dsb'd x2 with torso damage. If they think a bit about what's going on - they're going to start curing their limbs on impale and get disembowel once. As Vivisect is basically cure this way or die to this - or cure that and cure that but die to this - or get lucky and fight an Infernal that isn't that good (Basically all of them except @Tirac and @Ayoxele - from what I've seen if he had more abilities).

It's just a little bit stronk, basically.

It's always hard to say whether particular classes/setups are "near impossible" to stop in such a general manner though, since it comes down a lot to the abilities/equipment of the person they're fighting. Most classes' defence isn't limited to default curing actions, after all.

That being said, there's of course no doubt that vivisect is an extremely potent intakill that, when set up well, requires a precision in defending against which almost no other instakill requires. That's a great thing, of course. I wish more instakills worked like this.

I actually think it's one of the best balanced abilities at the moment.

Damnation should be changed so that it gives aeon on a level 2 head break. That would be funky.

I should include that I don't think this is a bad thing. I wish more instakills were like vivisect too. It makes things a lot more interesting. Lower damage, increase awesomeness :(

Damage as a thing is fine. The question is how much effort do you put in to avoid death by damage and how much are you willing to sacrifice

I really hope @Garao meant "canny" in the above post.
The sweltering heat of the forge spills out across the land as the rumbling voice of Phaestus booms, "I want you to know, the Garden reaction to that one is: What?"
The voice of Melantha, Goddess of the Seasons, echoes amid the rustle of leaves, "That's the censored version."

Colour me disappointed, at least censor yourself.

I have censored the relevant post and dealt out a warning. Consider yourself fortunate it wasn't more. We tend towards leniency when it comes to language; it's my view that a certain amount of colorful language isn't necessarily a bad thing. There is a line to be crossed, however, and the word in question crosses it.

  • @Vaehl, don't flag stuff that isn't flag-worthy. It's a popular song lyric with an intentional misspelling. Not serious abuse.
