Anyone knows how do the 5v5 placement matches work? we won the 5 straight and got only  to Silver 4 =/

Placement matches start from your hidden normal ELO or previous season ELO, and can sway largely for the first games. It used to be 10 placement matches, and it starts with 'coarse' tuning and moves to 'fine' tuning. Winning the last 5 might bump you up a rank or two, but winning the first 5 will probably bump you up a division.

If you duo queue for them, it gets even more confusing, and generally you won't get anywhere too insane early.

I think the 5s group was 3 Plat(2-5), 1 Gold3 and 1 Gold5.. but yeah, if is based on last season ELO, how does it works if the team was made that day? or is personal Elo of each one in the group? the group had a MMR of 1770 after the last placement match I think

I reread your post and I think you mean single queue?

I was referring to solo queue, yeah.

In 5s I believe it takes an average of team ratings in the past, and has a pretty low mark for anyone who hasn't done 5s prior for what it assigns them to determine. Placement matches are based off that average for an initial, 5 wins should boost it up a bit, but if it only got Silver 4 either your initial was really low due to multiple people who hadn't played before, or the teams queueing at the time were too low ranked and it couldn't find teams for you to fight that might have placed you higher.

No champion is 'op' on the first one-two days, because people don't know how to build/play him properly...

I would put him on release-Jayce's level of strength, personally. If not stronger.

Play him much like Irelia, really...

1) Play safe until 6 and just farm as much as possible,

2) Boots, tri-force, botrk core items - same as Irelia.

3) Build tanky afterwards (or before, if you're needing defensive items in lane versus someone like a Maokai)

4) Build towards ~85-90 rage prior to teamfighting -> transform and initiate the fight with your massive disruption power.

5) Win game.

I think one of the less appealing parts of him is that you can't control his transformation like you can, say, Shyvana. You just have to watch that bar and hope it works out at a good time.

You can control it, though... His bar stops building 3 seconds after you stop attacking. If you're expecting to just be able to auto attack the wave the entire time you're in lane, and not get punished for it, then... I don't know what to tell you, that's not something that's limited to Gnar. In solo queue he'll probably be irksome, because your team will always choose to fight when you're at 0 rage, so you can't transform before your team dies.
