  • The death cost, while importantly preventing people from just suicide-rushing constantly and lending some weight to your actions, also potentially punishes you for trying to keep a fight balanced.

@Cooper There are very, very few times when two factions have the exact same number of combatants online. If we're supposed to just stop trying to fight and go home whenever lots of defenders show up, I'd be lucky to get into two group fights a week.

But then maybe I'm the only person who thinks that the sheer amount of grinding it takes to maintain your experience levels around 70-ish alone is unreasonably high.

@Tirac I had something really wordy typed out but I shy away from situations like this. Instead I will just say that you are wrong and then I will move on.

Not on current topic of why conflict turns into an "arms race", but this got me thinking about certain comments over the years... and even some very recent ones, I think certain combatants look at the rest of us who might dabble in conflict as nothing more than XP points.  The whole "oh, I *never* bash" - then you honours that player and he's ranked 30th in Achaea... That said, I'd love it if there were more free pk areas that people went to, or bashing in Nishnatoba (since it's free PK)?  That is exactly what the noncom who might want to "try things on" or get involved in conflict without it spiraling out of control would be looking for.  It's why the icon raids were so great.  But once the dust settled on that, only cities that are fairly confident they can defend their icons have them... so no more occasional battles that don't make you infamous, and that you can simply leave if it gets too costly.

Wasn't complaining about the conflict, Was stating what happened with Jarrel saying Draqoom showed up to defend. Im quite enjoying the conflict.

Also.. What three people? Pretty much been just the two of us with a couple of allies when the numbers got out of control.

    Also hi new forums.
If a fighter is travelling somewhere, does he generally quint before each movement as the default travel mode?  Curious.  In other words, as I blithely travel about without a care, are the Jarrels and Rangors and Terras of the world squinting with each step?  It does make some sense that they would, but is that what happens?
  • No, just in raid situations.
  • XerXer Langley
Eh? I squint pretty heavily >.> I also wall off entire sections, and lay down a few Wunjo/Nairats in easy to access rooms when I bash. I also occasionally change my Raido spots. Granted, this was more when Mhaldor was at war with Ashtan, but the habits are still there.

Whenever you go near a city border you should squint. I ran into raiding parties outside Shallam all the time and learned to check. Also keeping an eye on death sights always gives you fair warning.

I have never seen your character do anything other than try to gank people, outside of that one duel. And that's perfectly fine. It's also fine that you 7v1 ganked me while defiling, not a problem, I should have seen it coming.

But if you come to my character preaching about the honorable virtues of Squire Tesha 10 minutes after ganking me, my character is going to shut you down, harshly. Dueling doesn't make an honorable character. If it did, Jhui would be the king of knights. He's not. And that's perfectly fine, we like him anyway.

    But let's not bullshit ourselves.

(Not even going to respond to your complaints about too many people defending a defilement.)
You could not possibly be more wrong about Tesha. Open your eyes.

Not with -each- step, but when I'm moving and I know fighting is going on, I sense people constantly, always have alertness up, etc.

@Tvistor - You don't have to go home if you are outnumbered, but you certainly cannot ever bitch about the defenders bringing more people than you have raiders. If they have too many for you, that's when you stop. Unless you just want to suicide/pick random people off.

Tirac's statement and actions seem to have a lot more credibility than Tesha and Coopers.
  • I can agree to not complaining about too many defenders. I'd much prefer closer-to-even numbers, or objectives we can fight over with some semblance of parity. In cities, the side that isn't initiating loses no experience for instance, making unbalanced raids significantly less of a pain to deal with.
  • Fortunately, you thinking that Tirac's statement and actions having more credibility than mine or Tesha's is both irrelevant, and wrong.
