100% automated Heartseed curing, using slc.is_prepped(limb).  Don't assume it's abusable, it's very smart.

** Heartseed curing is not a part of SLC.  My heartseed (and other insta-kill avoidance) curing simply uses SLC as a reference for when limbs are prepped.  You will notice in this log that my system automatically changes the priority of a leg break to avoid heartseed. (it would not have done this if my torso was not prepped, or if I had been on salve balance when that second leg broke, or instance.)

Not even sure what to make of that log without timestamps. Doesn't look like a proper heartseed

She didn't have aldar diadem, so it's slower than it should have been.

It doesn't matter though, the theory is the same.  I set server curing to ignore the leg break, until she used eq.  If I would have applied restoration to that leg, I would have been vulnerable to guaranteed heartseed death.  It has a lot of other contingencies as well, but I was simply trying to illustrate the ability to use my limb tracker's feature of being able to incorporate whether or not a limb is prepped into your curing strategies.

It would not have disabled curing of the leg if my torso wasn't prepped, for example.  You can't do that without either a limb damage tracker or tracking it yourself and using an alias.

It's not like I couldn't kill people before I had arties :frowning:

    I can't tank your Lothiac-level arties, hrrrngh.

Lothiac has pretty low level arties (I wanna say escrow ~3-5k).  Is this like, a running joke that I missed out on?  I hear it all the time and it's pretty silly.  Lothiac is simply very very good at his class.  His class was also pretty OP for a while.  Thankfully he doesn't kill me on his prep anymore, he just kills me with leg break + vines + holo/Stormhammer/bees for >100% damage.

  • In other news, this is a pretty great summarization of what happens every time my internet falsely lures me into believe it wants to work properly.

At least server curing gave it its all.

My level 79 alt has killed him twice in duels, and once in a rampage that you were present for. As in you were in the room watching the fight and saw me kill him.

But no, I can't kill him. Lol.

Looks like the sylvan mistimed his heartseed. Unless the timestamps would show you pausing leg curing to wait for the heartseed. Then I'd be impressed. Otherwise all that proves is that the sylvan was a bit early with the heartseed.

@Rangor‌    I don't know how to copy/paste timestamps.  My system did pause the leg to wait for heartseed, that's why it says "You have set the 'damagedrightleg' affliction to the 26 priority." right before the heartseed, then sets it back after the sylvan used equilibrium.  That's the Server Curing equivalent of "vignore".

Aha, nice then. How long would you wait, or what conditions would you wait for to continue curing legs?

@Rangor‌    I don't know how to copy/paste timestamps.  My system did pause the leg to wait for heartseed, that's why it says "You have set the 'damagedrightleg' affliction to the 26 priority." right before the heartseed.

Aha, nice then. How long would you wait, or what conditions would you wait for to continue curing legs?

I don't want to give it all away (lest I find it getting abused), but the basic principal is simply telling my script to do exactly what I'd do, if I could play in super slow motion.

As of now, my system does exactly what I'd do, but there's no telling if that is the perfect way to handle it.  So far I was able to completely dodge heartseed from Twil and Alrena, using quite a few heartseed approaches.

My logic as of now is more more or less:

When a limb (head/arm/leg) is broken (I use the svo got aff event), if:
I have more than 1 second remaining to get salve balance back (extra second for lag) at time of break.
My torso is prepped to break (using slc.is_prepped("torso") )
I am currently fighting sylvan (I have a tracker for this, but you can use svo.enabledclasses.sylvan)
       (some other proprietary stuff)
    then
Enter "Heartseed curing mode"  (essentially pauses curing limb breaks that occur while prepped for heartseed utnil the sylvan visibly uses something with >2 second equilibrium, or other "safe" criteria (tumbling through an icewall for example)).
    end

Pretty simple really, but the key to making it work is only doing it when your torso is prepped (and timing your salve balance).  For this, an accurate limb damage tracker is essential.

I also have a toggle to manually/automatically hit rebounding to break torso with a high damage flail if
Anyone in the room has rebounding up
Torso + Exactly 1 arm or leg is prepped.   (using slc.is_prepped())
          Fighting knight, sylvan, or monk
Target is off balance (for sylvan only)

This is the type of thing SLC is designed for.  Like I said, SLC is a pretty powerful tool.

It can also be used to swap priorities to prevent internal trauma DSB and Frenzy Vivisect, and I like to use it to pre-apply restoration to head right before retardation lands (2.5 seconds after embed) if prone + head prepped.

    0.0 Dsl epteth/seth apply mending
    1.0 apply mending

    2.9 break arm epteth/seth (restore)
    4.35 dsl epteth/seth
    5.8 vivisect
    6.0 apply mending

    This could be stopped by:
Shield on first break (if # of limbs prepped >= 2)
Rebounding (smoke anywhere between 2-6 seconds before intitiation) (only necessary to put up if 2 limbs prepped, plus 3rd > ~50% prepped)
For monks, kai cripple at any point (possible twice in there)

I'm assuming there are other counters as well, am I missing any?

  • First break is leg break and prone, so
  • Sorry, I meant first DSL.  That's still pretty grim though.  Shield would only work if they messed up the combo.  Obviously they could just epteth/epseth DSL again after a raze if they're quick.
  • Yeah that is an example of Frenzy on the extreme scale and it really should not be THAT fast. It does need to be under 2 seconds but that is insanely fast. A 1.6s cap would avoid the OP side while still keeping it viable for other strategies.

Only way to avoid a kill if it is that fast is to shield or run away the moment you see frenzy, keep rebounding up which could screw your own offence or to manual your Reconstructive salves and time it with rebounding or some class specific options like Shrugging, Dragonheal, Batter etc.

Damn I was keeping the restoration instead of mending to myself! I use this for heartseed too (off the first limb break).

I also have a good illusion trick for classes that have prone illusions.

    Wish you could queue salves!

On another note, at risk of being repetitive, the conditional priority swapping we're talking g about requires a limb counter for your own limbs (or manual aliases). SLC (my tracker) is perfect for this, get at me in game or PM if you want to try it out.

Oh, that reminds me I wanted to post on how to prevent this. I forgot, sorry.

Anyways, here some things one might try.

    1. When you're fully prepped by a vivisecter and he starts this pre-eps/ept thing, apply mending, and on salve balance pre-apply restoration. To him, this will look as if you cured as in @Wessux's example, so he will proceed with the leg break, but you'll have a sufficient headstart to allow you to prevent the vivisect.

    2. Not exactly sure how long a failed vivi takes you off equilibrium, but if it's sufficiently long, you could goad him into a failed vivisect by curing just like in @Wessux's example, except replacing the restoration with a fake mending (so it will look to him as if you were curing "normally" and he'll go for the vivisect), then try to time another application of mending to just before he gets balance to vivisect, so he doesn't have time to still react to it, making the vivisect fail and giving you time to then deal with your limb breaks. Incredibly risky and not recommended if you have an unsteady latency, of course!

    3. Simply apply a salve every second. He won't be able to tell which ones are mending and which ones are restoration, thus it's almost impossible for him to adapt his offence to your curing. Applying mending in the seconds following a restoration application won't stop the restoration from succeeding, but will make it extremely hard to track your curing.

    4. Using rebounding creatively. The infernal will try to get this kill sequence going just after your rebounding went down, so ensure it doesn't come up again too early. But what if your rebounding never came up at all? Smoke skullcap in irregular intervals, but never with more than 8 seconds between two smokes, to ensure you always have a rebounding in the process of coming up, without actually ever coming up until you stop this. Throw some other smoked pipes in between these now and then. Whenever he starts his kill sequence, stop the skullcap smoking, to let rebounding come up. Since he can't get an accurate idea of when you smoke what, he won't be able to time his kill sequence to your rebounding cycle and there's a good chance of rebounding coming up for you in time.

That's the first few things off the top of my head, but there should be several more options following the same principle: never give your opponent complete knowledge of your curing. Try to keep him guessing and he won't be able to launch a perfectly precise offence. Also try to incorporate timing in such a manner that you track his balance and do many things just before he recovers balance, leaving him no time to react to your curing in time.

Mind you, those are merely things that any class can do. By incorporating class skills, there are suddenly quite a few more options.

None of these techniques are certain and risk-free. In fact, they all come with significant risks and severe drawbacks and none of them are guaranteed to work. But that's what counters to a balanced finisher should be like. There shouldn't be a simple technique that will always stop a finisher with no risk to yourself, because that would make the finisher worthless.

My main point is just to point out that despite the quality of curing systems we see these days, they have still tons of things they could improve on, particularly by trying to be more deceptive.

1.Pre applying would work, but that has its own scripting and timing issues.

    2. That's really pushing your luck on timing and could even set me up for a third limb break vivisect. (Timing permitted)

    3. As long as I'm familiar with your break points, which as long as I fight a few people with these rapiers I will be, I don't care how often you apply. That will only buy me extra time if I time it right. If I time it wrong though its still just a normal two limb vivisect.

    4. Timing would be the issue. I need 6 seconds to pull this off, and even if you add extra smokes in there I could probably guess and still get it.

Invest in a 9mm retirement plan.

Yeah, as I said, none of it is foolproof. It sometimes comes down to narrow timing and luck, but that's the case with several defensive strategies.

As for 3: well, I didn't mean applying every second for the entire fight, but during this kill sequence. Since you're applying anyways, it won't cost you any additional salve balance, and it denies the opponent the ability to differentiate between several possible curing tactics. Knowing my break points doesn't matter in this case, as it's merely about obscuring whether I'm curing "normally", pre-applying, or temporally withholding the use of restoration completely. Even just applying one mending a second after a restoration application will throw off most people.

As for 4: I'm not sure how you'd guess what I'm smoking with any sort of reliability. But sure, the method has no guaranteed success, it only increases the odds.

In the end, if I do really go all out in several such deceptive strategies and my opponent still manages to see through them and get a perfect kill, I'm not going to complain. I'll tip my hat and congratulate him on a well-earned victory.

  • @Wessux‌ I'm kindof intimidated by your air of adaptability here... To be honest I doubt there are more than 2 or 3 people than can control their offense sat enough between 1.45s DSLs to improvise. As far as I can tell, most good-ish infernals are either executing the whole thing as an alias, or automating. Both are easy to handle.
