So I am at school (subbing, that is) and bored and working on one of these, finally, since the kids are behaving fairly well. Woohoo for subbing for elective classes.

But, I am having a huge issue making the map background works. Every one I bring up is crappy and generally one overall colour (usually blue) rather than the actual background. One or two come up but are VERY blurry.

What in the heck am I doing wrong? Do I need to set a background first, save it, then add the other layers on top?

Let's see if I can explain this and have it make sense.

Go into the thumbnail gallery > map items> background. Let's say you pick ancientForest2, should be on the top row, third or fourth one over. The initial thing will just be a big, blurry black block. Look at the properties panel (or if it's not visible, select the background piece, and go to Window> property panel to bring it up) and look for the 'state'. To the right of this is a box with an up and down arrows, which you can scroll through to see the different options available for each background (since there's a lot more than just that blurry box).

Hope that helps, or that I at least explained it in a way that makes sense!

edit: As for layers, go to Window> Layer panel and you can set which layers are on top or not.

I wanted to try this, but it's no good for making non-human characters. So here's Sena if she changed to human (maybe she got a gem of transmutation). I also couldn't find a way to make her runes or to make her look older.

Yeah, I got tired of trying to make that work, so I just Googled for a Maplestory background and went to File -> Import Image.

I present Melodie performing a Nereian bull sacrifice!

Holy crap that took forever.

Edit: Realizing not everyone knows what the above entails, more or less, we do a bunch of ritual-ish stuff and then cut the bull's throat. Mel (with Laurette in the background there) is wielding a bronze knife, fire/brazier is used for various bits, and of course an audience. She even is wearing her Nereian robes! The bull looks... really silly, but it's the closest I could find. Plus it's a pirate-bull, and DOWN WITH PIRATES, so it works.

What kind of wings were you after, Skye? You can adjust the colour if you're careful, though if you do it wrong, your risk crashing the program - it's why I had issues with Ourania, making all that gold stuff silver.

When you change it, click the arrow repeatedly instead of holding it down. I think the speed of the change is what crashes it, I've had a fair bit of success avoiding it with that method. I don't think there are dragonfly wings though, sadly.

@katzchen because I've always liked Raja's the most, ever since I played BoFIII I was big into weretigers and well, basically rajas, went satyr for better hunting when bashing to dragon
