Of all the players in Achaea, people who play in Cyrene are the most vapid, self-absorbed, angry people I've ever seen. Sheesh, get a fucking grip
Yeah, shame on me @Aegoth for being a bit salty that the necklace of comprehension doesn't work on letters or journals as of the last time I was able to log in. Yanno, shame on me that I expect the basic functionality of the game that is not only integral to my character's roleplay, but something also necessary to be able to work on character progression in the House he is in to be still working. It's like I expected their developers not to break prod or have their code work the way it's supposed to so I could spend the hour of time I had at my disposal yesterday as the capstone of my day instead of rapidly finding out that everything I intended to do and had been looking forward to was rendered ineffective by them committing the cardinal sin of development on a lark.
But, yanno, I'm stupid for wanting to have a good time and expecting the necklace of comprehension or writing in a language to function. I'm criminally mentally deficient for wanting to follow up on some RP that requires anonymity to be able continue in a manner that is enjoyable to all participants. I should uninstall mudlet and scramble my password because I was so devoid of imagination and intelligence that I had a good little laugh and immediately attempted workarounds so I could so carelessly uncover that one didn't exist.
I'll own angry in this. I'll take self-absorbed because, seriously, it's me. But there's nothing dumb about finding frustration in running into a wall and being unable to get around it with present mechanics.
I genuinely want them to keep this. With me being borderline on just logging in every once in a while to do nothing, this would make things a lot more interesting in terms of RP for me.
Makes everything seem more interesting than just everyone speaking the same language.
Blademaster quest was hysterical to do like this. Necklaces of Comprehension can help with like says and tells, however in terms of written work you're a bit stuck even if it's given to you in a language you know such as a Siren writes it in Sireni and gives it to another Siren, they still cannot read it which I find odd. You should be able to read other work in the languages you know or can understand yes?
I'm all for turning off Achaean language, but it implementing it shouldn't be as simple as turning it off like a lightswitch. They need to make sure it doesn't break any quests and NPCs, and make sure denizens and pets default to their native racial language.
Also... Sapience was once ruled the Seleucarian Empire. Wouldn't it make sense to have a common language based on that? Or would that be the Human language?
That is not an ordinary star, my son.
That star is the tear of a warrior. A lost soul who has finished his
battles somewhere on this planet. A pitiful soul who could not find his
way to the lofty realm where the great spirit awaits us all.
The lack of racism in Achaea isn't because there is a common language, the issue is that it doesn't mesh well with the way the world is set up. The only Divine that could possibly encourage racist RP is Phaestus, and that would still be OOC for him since he's more about liking dwarves and less about disliking everyone else but dwarves. The conflict of the setting revolves around differing ideologies and I can't really see any faction that could effectively deal racism, since the "bad guys" unite under ideologies, and the "good guys" are... well... good guys.
And I know I just talked about racism but something tells me the main reason you guys want there to not be a common language is for the opportunity for that sort of RP. Which I can't see existing in a large scale in Achaea unless more racial-focused Divines and factions are introduced. The lack of a common language might simulate that for a moment but as there is the necklace of comprehension, it's not going to do jack.
Unrelated to the current situation, I'd love if after learning the initial language tutor, you could learn from any non-hostile npc of that race, like speaking to locals.
This has almost no relation to my annoyance at my Vertani being permanently at 'just below basic' fluency.
More fantasy racism would be pretty awesome. Also, if you know your lore, then you know that some of it is already present in history and between some factions. Its just a matter of seeing more of it.
A simple way to test if this feature actually adds any depth to roleplay is to make it an option you can toggle on and off. I'm sure some of the people who like it will toggle it on, in which case the current limitations are in play and they also can't understand the common tongue that others can speak/understand who toggle it off. Can gauge the outcome based on how long that little experiment lasts.
Of course, for a -very- engaging experience, the language changes should also be applied to market. Go big or go home with your immersion imho.
Also should give Dragons their own language. They did have their own culture and stuff back in Krenindala after all.

Oooh, is there a way to view a list of languages that your character knows?
*edit: the only command I could find is LANGUAGES, which only displays what the current language is*

I'll admit, I haven't experienced anything quite like trying to
communicate to someone you're dueling with that you ran out of magnesium
in the middle of the fight. Props to @Savira for being a good sport
about the whole thing.

I laughed!
Anyways, this is a lot of fun

Filthy Grooks/Orcs/Ogres/Goblins.
Wipe them off the map is what I'll do to them.
Then I logged in to transcribe a journal.
Holy mother of hell this isn't okay. Someone save me please.
