I think Carmell, Synbios, Santar, and especially Antidas have done a super job of helping me out with combat, and helping out newbies in general. Without Houses is may seem a little less rigid in structure, but there are City scrolls and a novice program for newbies.
Targossas has a really "small town" culture, where everyone knows everyone and people are usually willing to be helpful. People regularly hold lessons and lectures, hang out together, and travel to pretty much anywhere to help you out when you're screwed.

Do they teach you to snub the people you can't kill, too?
And you won't understand the cause of your grief...
Rave @Wyverex for putting up a good fight when I boarded, and @Kinilan for being a good Captain, and I guess @Taraus for showing up right as we sunk Wyv's ship.

Was just telling someone how he sailed like an idiot but he did put up a good fight with you. I half expected you to die and I'd have to finish him off in a chase.
I don't want your paltry afterthoughts, I was headed there anyhow, this time it wasn't a deliberate attempt on my part. But please position more of your ship wrangling in my trade routes, though!
To include a legit rave, though, eeeeeeeeeee, Tart's almost got her (massive) debt paid off, end is in sight! This is exciting, I'm proud of her and would like to give her a well-deserved pat on the head.
Even as Hashan inevitably takes the sledgehammers to the supports that having been trying to lift it up out of obscurity, I must say recently has been the most interesting and politically challenging time in memory. I often wish I had better opponents in the city, I still do to an extent, but at least they have been making enough of a mess to make things interesting for me. The city may be quite polarized at the moment, but it is good to see lively debate, people thinking, and for the most part, the leveler heads prevailing. Hopefully, the city can whether it and not destroy itself like certain other organizations have in the not so distant past, but that may be asking too much.
So thanks to those who have a good head on their shoulders and to those who are driven by emotion, those for me and against me, those building up the city and those tearing it down, you both are making logging in worth it again in your own ways.
Oh another late rave.but..@vayne. Thanks so much for taking the time to talk with me about my doubts and questions. It really meant a lot. Also really fun learning history from you.always fun to hear what really happened from the people that where there ya know? And talking with me about leadership and such as well as public speaking. Fun stuff. Your awesome.
Reciprocal rave for @Guy, @Spazlee, and many other Targossian novices, as well as proteges @Dolomar and @Neftarys, who have made my Ambassador Aideship worth it. While your active interest in combat was a very welcome bonus, your engaging RP interactions with me and my colleagues as bright-eyed novices willing to learn and change have staved off my concerns of 'not getting enough quality recruits'.
As it is, I reiterate my IC advice in an OOC manner: If you have concerns, let me and my colleagues know. Or if you feel intimidated by my colleagues, then let me know instead. I'll at the very least mediate your concerns to them.
Lastly, welcome to the forums. Take most things with a grain of salt here, and try not to get too angry with each other. You don't want me to start using my eldritch pseudopods in a disciplinary manner(no, @Kyrra, it's not what you think).
@Halos for the design of my new mace. Carmell has officially let go of the past with the redesign of her mace.
Oooh nice. What's the previous and new designs
The old mace was a mace of Justice. it had a dragons claw holding an emerald with some light fire going around it in silver. That was blessed to smite the unjust.
The new one is:
A bronze mace wreathed in flame.
This brazen mace has a dull, matte lustre. Its tempered,
igniform head is an oblong sphere of bronze, the shallow crown
studded with brass knobs from which gouts of fire occasionally gutter and seethe. Braided, El'Jaziran
leather sheathes the tapered haft snugly, the geometric weave granting a generous hold on the grip.
The weapon's pommel is an engraved pentafoil, the religious emblem smooth from years of use.
"A Jalapeno pepper is rated at 7,500 SHU. Def Tech's O.C. Pepper spray is rated at 25,000 SHU. Phase IV O.C. Pepper spray ( which is the bear repellant you are speaking of) is rated at 2,000,000 SHU ( that is two million)."
(D.M.A.): Cooper says, "Kyrra is either the most innocent person in the world, or the girl who uses the most innuendo seemingly unintentionally but really on purpose."
(Yes, I am bullying my protege by means of hilarious and/or awesome Youtube videos. It is a mentor's privilege.)
Psh, Dolomar dances way better than him!
edit: And also! Because a rave a day keeps the rants away, today's rave is @Tesha! Tesha reminds me of peanut M&Ms. Candy-flavored, cub-snuggling exterior around a tiny little nut that will kill you if you're allergic, man.
Yes this is a rave - it taught me a few valuable lessons, like not to forget I stopped a QQ to check something, and that my gold putaway trigger wasn't working.
Also that classy little hypno-snap to open the door at the end.

I like you guys doing some pirating. It makes ships feel a little more riskier and is giving some much needed conflict elsewhere. Keep it up.
The pirating is needed. I'm glad that the losses aren't absolutely crushing though - at least not in my case. If they were, I just might not leave the harbour again, honestly. The seas are unique in that you have people who just don't "get" coding in the way that most halfway decent fighters do sailing alongside those who do. I got some really useful attack lines, and managed to make some helpful triggers. The next step really would require me making my first ever real table, which is pretty daunting.

Tables aren't as daunting as you think. I recommend going with four legs and a square top, it's a simpler design and easier to master with basic carpentry tools. The more esoteric things like round tops on pedestals and such can be mastered later...
I'm a few pages late due to a lack of internet, but in response to @Kinilan: try sailing on a connection that drops just as often as it works. Next month I'll have moved to a location where I can acquire a solid land-line connection. Then I'll be happy to put up or shut up.
I am retired and log into the forums maybe once every 2 months. It was a good 20 years, live your best lives, friends.

One of the symptoms of an approaching nervous breakdown is the belief that one's work is terribly important
And you won't understand the cause of your grief...
...But you'll always follow the voices beneath.

What is the rating on priest mace?
